jay...which I haven't seen one in a long time....I remember hanging on a tree one morning and an owl flew by my head from the back before coming in to view as he passed me. He was so close his feathers almost touched me. The coolest thing was hearing the wind rush through his feathers. You never get to experience anything like that if you don't get out ......
Good luck today!

Agreed! I was at my mountain cabin one day, sitting by the firepit enjoying the day when a huge Red Hawk came through the yard and barely missed me. I don't think he ever saw me. You are correct about the sound of the air under their wings. Scared the soup outa me.

I’ve wanted to go deer hunting and sit in a tree stand my entire adult life. Never had the means or know how to do it. Be thankful you have the opportunity to go deer hunting. No matter how miserable it may seem.

Goodluck Clover, Hope you don't have to cough as your prize finally comes by. I grew up in York County and know how penetrating the cold wet winter can be there. It is raining in central Vermont at 2000 ft on top of snow...can't seem to decide if it going to be rain , ice or snow. Just hope we have a good cover for the grandkids when they get here next week. Stay warm...at least you have signal and can keep up with all of the changes at Clemson.

Try to stay awake. If you fall asleep and fall out, you may not survive the fall. It happens more than people realize.

15 minute tasty meal --
-- spray frozen fries with olive oil, then salt and pepper -- place in air fryer set on high for 15 minutes.
- microwave frozen plant burger 1 minute to soften - smear both sides with Worcestershire - place in air fryer when fries have been going for about 7 minutes
Start bread toasting, gather things like mayo, cheese, etc
When air fryer stops assemble the burger.
These days cook most of my food in my air fryer.

I do catch and release --only. Just yesterday a neighbor brought me over a plate of crappie he cooked on his grill with all the trimmings. That boy can cook and catch (and clean).

Yea I am sure a fish being drug around by its mouth is less painful than a clean kill shot on a deer...
Get off your high ####### horse. At least the deer my family kill are eaten and used. You are just doing it for ##### and giggles.

You seem angry, was it something I said?
I do fish for the giggles. I let them go because I am too lazy to clean. One is not allowed to deliver a "clean shot" to a fish on the Tugaloo River, but at sometimes you are allowed to shoot ducks from the boat.
I wish I had a horse, but too lazy to care for it.

I am not a gun nut one way or the other. I have taught at the cop ranges, done all the FBI courses, always shot "expert" in the Army. I may know more as to guns than the average hollywood hero.
My Pop taught me how to shoot and how to hunt from the time when he had to lift and carry me over the briars. We always had a lot of fun as our hunting dogs were more fun than a tree stand (there were zero deer in the area back then). In the day Pop hunted to feed his siblings. Pop was expert at hunting, guns, and training dogs. I could match him with a rifle, but not a pistol.
I don't hunt, respect those who do, not those who just kill critters for fun.
I have some great guns, and as I have stated, all mine are geared toward self defense.

Better than my night last night , hit a doe last night with a good shot , have her an hr Bc I didn’t here her crash… went back out and of course it starts pouring rain, great blood trail and within 5 min of the rain blood was tough to follow and eventually became impossible… sucks, made me wanna put the bow up and hang it up the rest of the year … spent another hr in the pouring rain looking and just makes me sick… ruined the weekend for me , so could be worse … I know it’s part of the roller coaster of bow hunting and just bad luck but hate it and not why we do it … good luck the rest of the year !

I only use a crossbow during the 2 weeks of archery season ( can't even pull a standard compound bow and hold it due to nerve damage in my left arm from Nam) - mainly just to be in the woods. Didn't even see a deer the 2 times I got to go this year and switched to a muzzleloader October 1st. Have filled my freezer but still have 2 people who can't hunt who want me to get them one. And my step daughter actually went for the 1st time in her life so she can get her own freezer stocked ( not that I won't make sure that happens if she can't get her first deer).

Grew up in a family of hunters but just never appealed to me. Nothing against it…just no desire to sit and wait…especially if it means getting up before 7… haha.
