We need him MUCH MORE next year than this bowl game. But it would be nice to beat the Sooners.

Stomach it so it won't be the last game he ever plays. Do you realize how risky it was to play him in the South Carolina game? You're really willing to risk his future so he can play in the Russell Athletic Bowl?

Seen this coming, like I said in another thread...I figured he was waiting to see what bowl it was first. Nor does want to risk taking anymore heat for playing him, we live in a sensitive country now and days. I just hope he plans on giving Shuessler the first team reps in the bowl practices.

3 weeks head start on rehab and isnt exposed to further injury. We need hem to be 100 percent by next fall. Just put Nick behind center and lets see what happens. I seriously dont know if I can stomach another offensive series with cole taking snaps.

Dec 8, 2014, 2:34 AM

But I expect and know better and won't throw $ away to see it. If it is on TV and I am not int he middle of having a good time doing something else, I will sneak a peak. That is about all it is worth.
If it was Citrus or Orange Bowl against a top 20 team, I would lay all other business aside to watch.
If it was a playoff game, I would spend $ to travel and watch.
Just different standards for me than you. Sorry, but we are not as loaded with $ as you apparently.

Just because you can't afford to go and are unhappy with the way it worked out...you plan on not supporting the Tigers and possibly not even watching. Got it. You are correct about one thing, we certainly have different standards.

I think it all is on #4. If he is dead set on playing in the bowl game then I think Dabo let's him play. This kid won't back down. The surgery would be best now in my opinion. Just don't think Watson will see it that way and plead his case to play the bowl game.

Ouch! But it does make sense--really doesn't matter where we wind up in the polls when we're not in the top 10 but hate to see what our offense will look like in the bowl game. However, the Tigers are on the way UP!! Good luck to Deshaun on the surgery and to the rest of the team for the bowl! You've made us proud! Go Tigers!!

I hope Gallman and Dye are ready to have about 25 carries a piece. OK is in the same situation with a backup QB, both teams could end up with 50 carries in this one.

The Sooners like our Tigers gave up about half as many rushing yards than the Gamecocks did this season. I hope you're right, but won't be as easy to run the ball on the Sooners. Their pass defense is not terrible either. Sure hope we have another option other than Stoudt.

Can Tucker Israel or Kelly Bryant come in and play. It would give them a chance to see where they are and it couldn't hurt. I know they can't but it would be nice. They would have already graduated from high school at this point. Go Tigers beat the Sooners and lets move on to next year where we will have more than 1 QB on the roster.

the 4 team playoff in 2 years b/c we have a fully healthy DW and not a DW with two ACL surgeries and limited to pocket role only. Get him his surgery now...he's still a true freshman. this isn't the biggest bowl he'll get a chance to play in... so it sucks not to have him but you don't want to be in a situation where first off he's not 100% in all his skills, and he ends up either blowing out his other ACL b/c of the stress or screwing up his confidence over a trying to save his legs.
good move if they do decided to do this. Heres to you Cole. What you got man, its your last hoo-rah...prove us all wrong and flip everybody off after you throw 3 TD's and role up 350 yds of offense. I for one would love to see it.

And I would love to be able to flap my arms and fly, but it's not going to happen. And, Cole Stoudt is not a Division-1 caliber quarterback. It is what it is. Face it. Why not give Schleussler a shot, with the guy from Stanford as back-up?? It couldn't get any worse than with Cole. What about this does the staff not understand?

Oklahoma, though unranked, will kill our quarterback. We were hoping to play Missouri on New Years Day. They were a more doable opponent and it was a more prestigious bowl time and slot. As it is, we are in a no-name bowl, on a no-name date, playing an unranked opponent that we will not beat. We are not going to risk Watson against that team for that bowl. He is going to go ahead with surgery and we have an excuse for losing the bowl already. Our athletic director has is mouth full of twinkies when a lot of the side talk and bowl positioning was going on.
The win over South Carolina was fun and we will continue to enjoy it, but out bowl is over as of today, the same day we got the invite. Had I not told the world the situation immediately following the South Carolina game, we could have perhaps fooled them again, but I got the runs of the mouth and now everyone knows everything about the situation.
He will be healthy next August and we will improve on our 2014 season of 9-4. We will shoot for the ACC Atlantic, a second straight win over Scar, an ACC Championship and perhaps an Orange Bowl Berth.

If stout starters we lose. No doubt in my mind. Use nick or just come out and say you don't care to win. Honestly stout couldn't move the ball against GSU. Figure it out . Remember the hype video? We win.

Dabo, completely understand not playing Watson for the bowl game, but have enough respect for us as fans to let us know now before I order my bowl tickets and waste money on watching Stoudt embarrass the team and the Clemson family. We all know what will happen if Stoudt plays, and I sure as crap would rather watch tthe loss on my own tv than to drop a grand on a trip to Orlando. If we start Nick that will be twice as smart as starting Stoudt. It will be as bad as the WV loss a few years ago if not. Just saying

Just as long as I don't have to hear number 18 had a really great practice and is ready to lead us to a win. We have enough time to develop other options.

We do have 2 other QB's on the team. Stoudt is simply way in over his head. For god sakes prepare the two other guys. Cole is done. Period. Totally unfair to the entire team to continue playing him.

How about go and support all the Tigers. If there is a helmet with the PAW on the side of it in the game, I want to be there. I have paid a lot money to go see games I didn't expect to win. Regardless of the outcome, it was nice to be able to be a part of it all. Cheers or words of encouragement, our Tigers deserve both from their fans.

DW, get the surgery asap. Would still like to see a big performance from our defense and just enough from the O and special teams to pull one out. A victory over one of the best programs in the country always helps recruiting. It certainly can't hurt.

Fine. But give our other two QB's a shot. Cole, bless him, is simply not a D-1 caliber QB. Why continue to insist on inflicting him on the team and fans?

No offense fellow Tigers and no offense to our team ... no doubt, this is a long term decision and the decision should be up to Deshaun with Dabo taking full responsibility and ownership of Deshaun's decision withe the press. That said, Coach V and our fan base will be having a long day of watching bubble screens, INT's and 3 and outs.

The decision should be up to the coaches and medical staff and not a young player. Get DW the surgery, move our other two QB's up, and relegate Cole to 3rd string. This is big-boy football, and reality should prevail.

Know alot of us would rather have DW play b/c he gives us the best chance offensively to beat OU and pick up our 4th straight 10-win season. However, I also see how the staff would rather go ahead and get him physcially ready for next year to prevent him getting hurt worse and not having him back in time for the start of next year, especially since the QB depth chart beyond DW and Schuessler for next year is a jr. walk-on who hasn't played a snap (McCaskill) and two true freshmen (Bryant and Israel).
Whatever the coaching staff decides, I'm still gonna be rooting for our Tigers on Dec. 29th to beat the Sooners and give us something to build on in the spring and summer for 2015. GO TIGERS!!!

Does anyone else think that Dabo
Dec 8, 2014, 9:06 AM
|
|
was always planning to have DW get surgery before the bowl game? I've always been a big fan of Dabo, but this seems a bit suspicious. It seems as though he was keeping alive the chance that DW would play in order to secure a better bowl. Once the bowl was selected he could go ahead and have DW get surgery.
It just didn't add up that he would have DW walk around on a torn acl for another month, then play in a bowl game. This would also add an entire month to the timeline for recovery, for an injury that many have said takes a whole year to fully recover from.
The whole think just seems very shortsighted, and not in Dabo's typical MO.
Again, I've always been a big fan of Dabo, and maybe I'm just being cynical here. But just my two cents...

I'm with you on this. I had this suspicion in the back of my mind when he first announced DW would play in the bowl, but now that we are picked for our bowl and he is backpedalling on it, it is starting to look that way.
It's actually a brilliant move by Dabo, whether it worked or not.

I say get the surgery now and be ready for '15!
Dec 8, 2014, 9:10 AM

This bowl game is great and the Tigers should prepare and play to win. All the D has to do is hold OU to 0 pts.
What this bowl really does is provides an extra "spring" camp as the Tigers prepare for next year. Get the freshman ready for the spring and make sure DW is ready to go for summer drills and fall camp.
Nothing will be gained by playing DW in Orlando....the RISKS far outweigh the rewards.

Are there people seriously suggesting Watson should play?
Dec 8, 2014, 10:01 AM

Have you guys been eating paint chips or something? We played with fire once and luckily didn't get burned. It would be nice to win this bowl game, but not at the risk of losing arguably the most talented quarterback to ever put on a Clemson jersey.
Watson's a freshman, and this is the Russell Athletic Bowl. Even though it's the same system, we have a new situation going on with our offense. We'll need the team to be in tact during the summer sessions to come out and play our best. To risk Watson's health again would be a giant mistake.

Bowl Game and status of DW
Dec 8, 2014, 10:01 AM
|
|
As for the bowl game, i could care less who starts, I bleed orange through my veins and will still watch the game and pull for a W. And those who say this game means nothing, it means a 10 win season and that is impressive considering we were picked to win 8 games tops this season. I hope we can pull it out against Venables former squad and show the Tigers belong. If we finish in top 15 on the year than we have a good inside track for next season. I think Dabo should go ahead and have DW get the surgery the championship is out of reach for this season but can have a good shot for next season and he would give us a good shot at giving us a Heisman at Clemson....People wake up, have you seen Friday Night Lights I would rather not have a Booby Miles for a QB and would rather have a title again.

He absolutely needs the surgery NOW
Dec 8, 2014, 10:47 AM

After the ACL reconstructive surgery has taken place, it's been shown that patients almost always have arthritis appear in the knee 10-15 years later. If he continues to play on the knee without surgery, it could cause even more problems down the road and cut his bright future short. This is one game versus a young man's entire career. Get the surgery now.
