Budgets of sweet sixteen teams...

Again, not pulling a Judge.
Really think this is decent and remember only 15 are in power conferences including Big East. I dont think there is not much difference in teams with a budget of $8 million and a little over $10. A lot of that extra goes into things like advertising and incentive. Purdue is only 0.8 more than Clemson and has a very strong basketball program...

They have an outstanding basketball history, in a state known for its love of basketball.
They sell out their nearly 15,000 seat arena every home game, going back several years.
They rank in the top 10 nationally in attendance each year.
So if you want to magically transport Clemson to a basketball-crazy state, and also magically give us the robust basketball history Purdue has, perhaps our $8 million will go farther (although giving us the nearly $1 million extra Purdue spends each year would be nice also). Then we can compare.
Derp!

They also only have one transfer player - a grad transfer. And the announcers said NIL was the last thing he asked about. He just wanted to know how he could help the team. Imagine having that level of success with home grown player and without fully utilizing this tool that is now available and all other teams are using a lot more.

Clemson basketball as a whole loses money...

The profit the men's basketball team makes isn't enough to cover the proposed projects or women's basketball's expenses. Clemson basketball depends on Clemson football. This is not debatable, it's math, and it's why Clemson football is prioritized over the other sports.

That’s bc Duke has always been basketball first and by a huge margin. Elko would have stayed if Duke matched tamu money but that was never going to happen. They will just look for another diamond in the rough. UNC, while it hasn’t shown up in their record and trophy case, does care about football a lot more than Duke… just look at the stadium and football facilities, coaching hires, etc. Unc wants to be up their with the big dogs in football it just hasn’t worked out and Duke is fine with having an 8-9 win season every few years and being competitive as long as Cameron is rocking.

And $2 million is a huge difference when it represents 25% of your budget.
Us spending $10 million a year on the program, rather than just $8 million, wouldn't get us to the level I'd like to see, but it would still represent progress.

Billy Bob also won $1 million playing scratch-offs, but I think we all know that's the exception rather than the rule, and isn't the best wealth-building strategy.
I'd like to put our program in the best position possible to be successful. That means funding it a lot better, because the most successful programs tend to be the ones which are funded well.
Expecting our basketball coaches to make us successful with subpar funding is ridiculous. It would never fly for football, so why is it okay for basketball?
I would argue that funding is even MORE critical for Clemson basketball's success, because we are a football school with a poor basketball history, playing in a top basketball conference. We need every advantage we can get. In this case, I don't even expect to be at a funding advantage - let's just remove it as a disadvantage by giving our program more resources.

I am happy to see so many strong Clemson supporters here on TI ready to spend more of their hard earned cash on Tiger basketball. The 110 society says you can be all in for $5000/year. 100 TI spenders could buy us a player or 2 per year.
What? Oh, you were planning to spend somebody else's money to improve Clemson basketball?
It is always easier to spend someone else's money, isn't it?

No kidding. My first thought is "what is Duke spending the money on?". IF a large part of this is "tuition", then I think that needs to be separated out. Need to evaluate apples to apples as best we can. There is only so much money you can throw at the issue. Could we (Clemson) do better, sure. Am I in favor of providing more resources to help, it depends. I don't really think individual play station 10s in every locker is something we need to pursue just because XYZ school is doing it. I don't want to put our team at a disadvantage, but I am not in favor of throwing money around just to keep up with the Jones in regard to frivolous expenses. If our team needs additional work out or meeting space because its hard to share with other groups using the same space/ then ok, lets work on it. Do we need another analyst position to help break down film so that individual reports can be generated for each player to help improve their performance. I can get on board with that. But if this just comes back to head coach salaries, then I am ok with giving our assistants raises on par with current league teams/ maybe slightly better for continuity reasons. Our head coach, provide him with a contract that does not work against him in regards to recruiting (5 year period). But I dont think we need to greatly increase his contract to where its detrimental to Clemson in the future if we have to make a change.
If some other school really wants him bad enough, then we will just have to live through that change. But after 14 years, if it has not happened already, I dont think there are going to be many schools out there that want to buy our coach.
All that to say, Way to go Tigers! Nice win Yesterday! That is why I picked you to beat Baylor in my Bracket! I knew our Team had the talent to do it! Now go out and make me eat crow and take down the Wildcats.
Go Tigers!

schools like Marquette, Gonzaga, UConn and even Duke are spending so much because they don't really have anything else. Heck...most Duke students didn't even realize the school had a football team until they walked past the stadium on the way to Cameron. Also, all schools have differing budget reporting preferences so this is unlikely an apples-to-apples comparison.

Curious to know what costs they are covering that Clemson is not.
It could be costs of travel for major regular season games which is an expense that Clemson doesn't have because we aren't in made for tv games.
While we seem to be at the bottom of budget, I'd really like to know what the coach is requesting that he hasn't received.
and where did they get their numbers because Duke is a private school and doesn't release information like that.
