Bryce Davis is simply a conflicted kid

He was struggling with his decision from the beginning. As a father of a 20 year old who can’t decide what to major in or why because he wants to please us, himself and that part that wants to please the world, I get it. It is frustrating but I get it. He was never fully in with us- he was conflicted and fell back into what would make his parents most happy. They will have to deal with this later as a family. Remember- he is just a “kid.” I know the NIL stuff forces him into adulthood he may not be ready for but he is still to me “just a kid.”

Likely true but every year there are scores of kids who go where they want. I've seen parents publicly not deal well with them choosing another school. Ultimately it is their choice.

My 7th grad grandson isnt playing a sport I wish he would but it is his childhood. I go to his games and support him. He is doing his job and I am doing mine. I would never ever interfere with his choice. Granted I'm not the parent but the parents are handling it the same way.

He will be close to home at Duke, will go to one of the top schools in the world and might even have a few bucks in his pocket after he pays taxes.

I will never complain about a kid flipping to Duke. At least it wasn’t Scar or UGA.

Yep, I wish him the best. Sounds like he appreciates Duke's academic reputation and wants to have more options than perhaps being a paid athlete. "My parents love the academics there," Davis said. "With my mom being an educator and my dad being a police officer, they always preach to me the student-athlete. The student piece always comes first." Can't argue with that - it's a great school and that degree can get him places if the football field doesn't pan out.

The appeal to play for Clemson and Easton were big attractions I’m sure.

I can get playing close to home and going to Duke. But let’s be honest. Manny Diaz will not last beyond 3 years and never have a winning season.

The pressure to produce at duke will also be very light in comparison.

Diaz sucked at da U... he'll suck worse at Duke.

If were losing recruits to Duke, then something is wrong at Clemson

Maybe a 3-star prospect without NFL opportunities should choose Duke for career prospects.

But something is signicabtly wrong at Clemson if we’re losing Top 100 kids.

… while it’s unfortunate that he decommitted, we don’t know what’s going on in his life right now that would make him change his mind.

Why does it have to be something scientifically wrong at Clemson when a large sum of cash can turn an 18 year old kid. Sounds to me like just maybe you're looking for a reason to blame Clemson, or how Dabo runs his program!!!

Youre telling me Duke football has more resources or money than Clemson

… and DON’T think that’s a problem?

Tell me what he’s getting at Duke that he couldn’t get here. What is the $$$?

It’s ridiculous that folks keep trying to justify this.

Highly unusual for a recruit to not honor commitment to Dabo---and then announce he is going to Duke, of all places.

He is just a kid, and I fully understand how confusing life can get at his age, but, the amount of cash that Duke was quoting to him, and his parents eyes getting big as a saucer at the sound of all that money, that was the very reason he is a Dookie today and no longer a Tiger!!!

Again. Parental pressure is hard for these young men

I will confess- I have a hard time not influencing my kids (who are both in college right now) to not major in something or go in an direction that won’t help them be secure financially. As much as I try to resist making financial security a thing it was difficult for me when one of my kids wanted to major in music or sociology instead of engineering or business. Maybe his parents saw a more secure future for their son being close to home, making more NIL money now without the assurance of a NFL career later or not breaking the starting lineup at Clemson. A Duke degree with added finances and the hopes of being a doctor beyond football- I get it!!! I also get being a die hard Clemson fan and getting self righteous about a commitment being a commitment and character stuff. It’s not easy ya’ll is all I’m saying. Also, we don’t criticize as hard when a kid flips to us!! We claim that he has “seen the light.” As an alumnus I believe that there is no better place than Clemson. Also factor in that Bryce may need to be closer to home right now. Some kids are not ready and may not flourish in a competitive llaxe like Clemson and he and his parents recognized that later. NIL promises make that decision easier

I actually knew like four kids I graduated high school who went to Clemson same time as myself , only to transfer to USC to be closer to home. Clemson was like 120 miles versus 20 miles for SCAR. I never understood, it but to each their own. Some kids just have to stay in orbit
