Ahh you are talking about the game where we were favored by 15 and lost by 4.
What about the football team last year that was favored by 12 got blown out by 21? Should we bring that game up in every football thread like the braindead basketball posters do?
You have some of the worst takes i have seen on this site. Nobody likes you.

If we didn’t have 10 championships, 8 conferences championships, 6 Final Fours, and 2 National Championships in the same span of time that Brownell has nothing I would suggest yes, it would be worth mentioning. How’d that crappy whataboutism work out for troll?

Dabo has had TWO generational talents at QB, and dozens of other NFL caliber players to work with also.

Because Dabo built a program, culture, and system that enticed those generational studs to come play here. He didn't just happen to find them under a rock behind Fike...they chose Clemson because of what he had built and accomplished.

Not taking anything away from Dabo, but Clemson had a strong football tradition when he took over, and it wasn't until Deshaun Watson and a few other studs came along that he really started winning at a high level. 2011-2014 were good years but the ACC was horrible.
Brownell on the other hand had the challenge of building a program with NO tradition in the best conference in college basketball and if you look back over his tenure he's had only one really good scorer in Jaron Blossomgame.

The fact that Brownell hasn't been able to recruit better scorers is not the fault of Clemson history. He's had 13+ years. This history excuse is tired and irrelevant.

Tired maybe but not irrelevant and he finally has good players.
I think you’re underestimating the recruiting disadvantage he’s had.
College basketball is a totally different animal than football. When the top programs are putting 4 or 5 one and dones on the court it’s hard to win anything of significance.

A coach should be judged based on a body of work. Not one year. This applies to all coaches across all sports. You know this works in Dabo’s favor and against Brownell. Your post is designed to denigrate our football program while leaving basketball mired in mediocrity. Pretty clear signs of an anti-Clemson troll.

It’s a straight up logical fallacy that would only be employed by someone profoundly stupid or with insincere intentions. There is no middle ground. Sort of like Judge Keller doesn’t understand the difference between a rise in total cases and rise in percentage within total cases (cancer post earlier). These are fundamentally unserious people that are probably just one or two accounts.

If you are a recruit and you want to go to the ACC to play-where would you put Clemson on that list? Maybe we sneek in over BC and VT IMHO. I'm just looking at it from as objective a position as I can. I don't have an answer and neither has anyone else. In recent centuries, the ones we've had: Rick Barnes-recruited big brusing guys for a few years-made some headway and then ran when his good recruiting class was going. Larry Shyatt-not even going there. Cliff Ellis-nice guy-got us a regular season ACC title and then sang his way out of town Oliver Pernell-recruited the best athletes he could-coached them up some-ran full court pressure continuously. Thought we had a chance but we never had shooters. His best athletes were leaving and Purnell cut bait and ran back home which turned out to be a big mistake
Brownell has done better than any of them. Maybe one day we can get into the NCAA and win 2 games-THAT would be a miracle...but serioiusly-1 and done in the NIT?

Clemson was still one of the better programs in the conference when Dabo took over.
Basketball has always been a doormat in the ACC. Clemson football has never been that low.

Why are we assuming that recruiting for basketball at clemson is on a level playing field as football?

There are 24 mcdonalds all americans in basketball each year.
Iver the last 10 years there has been on average less than 30 5 stars per year. This year there are 32. It is a valid comparison.

Brad inherited a team that had been to the tournament 3 years in a row and got knocked out by a lower seeded team. We had not won a tourney game in 13 years. We still had the worst history and facilities of any team in the acc.
He had good talent for 1 year, and when those players left, the leftovers were not good. It is why his year 2 and 3 wee his 2 worst consecutive years in his tenure.
Dabo took over for bowden. bowden's last 4 recruiting classes were ranked 10th, 16th, 13th, and 16th. Completely different scenario.

I’m you don’t understand the very obvious underlying fallacy of this argument I don’t know how to help you. But it holds no water and would score no points under objective scrutiny. It is a self-nullifying argument and I’m tired of indulging it with trolls who only bring it up as an opportunity to bash Clemson. Your motives are readily apparent.

I literally post the info directly from Rivals and On3 further up and you’re calling me a liar? You’re the one bringing a laundry list of unrelated info to the thread. First, it’s a complete fallacy to compare gross numbers of players of any rank between a sport with 85 scholarships and 13. That’s what you want to do. To claim that history, facilities, and money have kept Clemson from being more successful under Brownell while somehow believing that his lack of ability to advance in the tourney negates what Purnell empirically proved could be done is another fallacy. In fact 2 of the last 3 coaches achieved 3 tourneys in a row under the same or worse conditions (and Ellis made 3 in 4) you claim impede Brownell. Brad, in 14 ####### years, has not made back to back tourneys. You can’t win in the tourney unless you are in it. Constantly deflecting because others didn’t win in the tourney is insincere, irrelevant, and lazy. If Brownell is a better tourney coach than Purnell boy wouldn’t it be great if he’d build a program that got there more than once in awhile.
Dabo’s program started turning players into NFL talent. If you’re going to note the uptick in our national recruiting rankings you might want to note who and when a certain someone was hired and then named recruiting coordinator. The same someone would be named National Recruiter of the Year in 2006. It’s almost like some people are better at their jobs than others and that it isn’t all about facilities and money. Brownell turned a 5 star, McDonalds All-American into a guy you like to use as a punch line. The ‘08 and ‘09 classes were the best consecutive recruiting classes in Clemson history. Not one of those guys played NBA ball after finishing under Brownell. Only one of them transferred out for his first season - Donte Hill. He should have had the nucleus of NCAA team through 2012 at which points his recruiting should have been in full swing. He didn’t even fill 13 scholarships slots for two years. He signed 6 players in 2011 - only 2 ever contributed meaningfully. He has no responsibility for this? Purnell signed 7 players in the class of 2004 (his second like Brownell in 2011) and Sam Perry, James May, and Cliff Hammonds formed the nucleus of a team that would be strong enough to eventually make 4 straight tourneys. And, since you like to count last year as a tourney season - it should have been five. We were ripped off far worse in 2007 than we were last year. You like Sports Reference - that squad had a higher SRS than last year, 2021, 1996, and 1989. Still the best RPI ranking ever left out of the tourney.

More factual inaccuracies by viztiz.
If you used rival rankings, then you would realize that ricky sapp was a 5*. Also jamie Harper was a 5* among multiple services.
For basketball, Noel johnson also transferred and he did nothing at auburn. Bad evaluating by purnell i guess.
Again, you are showing you know nothing about college basketball if you think milton jennings would have turned into an nba player under a better coach. It shows insane bias and lack of knowledge. Dude shot 17% from 3 and 65% from the ft line his freshman year under purnell. He has also proved to be a bad shooter in finland where he played pro ball shooting in the low 30s from 3 and a below average FT %.

Well, I didn’t claim to use other services. You did get me on Ricky Sapp. I thought I had sorted by 5* when I hit it because CJ Spiller was on top. So I missed one. Which doesn’t change my point. We weren’t an elite recruiting program when Bowden came. We weren’t when he left. We were a terrible recruiting program until Dabo took over as recruiting coordinator. He - not Clemson’s history - turned the tide. Further up, I posted our rank within the ACC in football by season under Bowden. It wasn’t pretty. And when asked about basketball I pointed out we were 4th in the ACC in 2008 and 3rd in 2009. No matter how you woulda, coulda, shoulda the backstory that is just a fact. If nothing else, Brownell became coach under the most favorable circumstances of any other coach at Clemson since tourney expansion. That’s just reality. And 14 seasons later, he hasn’t been to consecutive tourneys. Purnell did it in year 6. Barnes did it in year 3. Brownell will, at best, be 9 and 12 years behind them if he were to pull it off. They had to fight every single negative you excuse him for only some, like facilities, much worse.

"worst facilities"
Cameron Indoor Stadium called...
The building originally included seating for 8,800, though standing room was sufficient to ensure that 9,500 could fit in on a particularly busy day. Then, as now, Duke students were allocated a large number of the seats, including those in the lower sections directly alongside the court. Renovations in 1987–1988 removed the standing room areas, added an electronic scoreboard and display over center court, wood paneling, brass railings and student seats, bringing capacity to 9,314, though now[when?] there is sufficient standing room to ensure 10,000 could fit. For high-profile games, students are known to pack in as many as 1,600 into the student sections, designed for a maximum of 1,100.
Prior to the 2002–2003 basketball season, air conditioning units were installed in Cameron for the first time as a response to health and odor concerns for players and fans alike.[5]
Prior to the 2008–09 season, a new video scoreboard replaced the electronic board over center court.[6] Before the 2009–10 season, additional changes were made, including installing LED ribbon boards to the front of the press table and painting the upper seats Duke blue.[7] Cameron is one of the few major arenas that uses backboards suspended from the ceiling instead of anchored on the floor.

lol - you make it sounded like we couldn’t practice full court because someone was on the other side. There are limits on practice hours and the basketball team always had dibs on making the schedule. That’s a nothing burger. And like Duke is the only benchmark. How about Purdue who spend less than us on basketball?

Our facilities stunk when brownell took over. Apparently you all dont think facilities matter, so i guess you also believe that we are wasting tons of money in football.

The thread is getting convoluted Tigeron. Doesn’t change the fact. They play in a dump. For the sake of your arguments let’s say facilities “stunk” when he took over. Why was his immediate predecessor able to make back to back tourneys, after taking over an actual dumpster fire, in year 5 and Brownell won’t even have the possibility until year 15? Don’t even some silly argument that they were significantly better when Purnell took over. Recruiting peaked in year 5 and 6 for Purnell. Aging facilities weren’t weighing him down. Why has it taken Brownell longer to find stability post renovations than it took Purnell with no such benefit.

According to Brownell, we've had "some of the best facilities in the ACC and the country" and "a first-class experience" for the student athletes for 8 years.
Clemson hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest round of renovations in Littlejohn on October 14, 2016. These upgrades took roughly 16 months to complete, beginning shortly after the 2014-15 season in order to have them done as efficiently as possible. Their game against Georgia on Nov. 11 of 2016 served as their “grand reopening” of the stadium, allowing fans to experience the renovations first-hand.
This $63.5 million project consisted of a number of upgrades, along with the addition of some features to help accommodate players and provide them with the best equipment and atmosphere possible.
The renovated studio included the new Swann Pavilion, which includes a 13,000-square-foot (1,200 m2) practice gym, team suites, a film room, weight room and lounges. The renovation also upgraded the stadium entrance, exterior, and added two new LED boards. To fit in the new facilities, the basketball floor was rotated 90 degrees, and the arena capacity was reduced to 9,000 seats.
Included in the recent renovations, both the Men’s and Women’s team got their own Players’ Lounge, providing them with the equipment necessary to provide players with the opportunity to relax with their teammates and pass time in between practices and work outs. Located near each Locker Room, the Players’ Lounge helps accentuate leisure in their surroundings, while also keeping them in a proactive environment.
Training Room To the right of the Players’ Lounge is the Athletic Training Room. This space was specifically created to centralize the needs of players, typically consisting of recovery or game-prep. The Athletic training room was also a part of the recent renovation, allowing the program to be equipped and prepared when in season and out of it.
Amenities Include:
Plunge Pools Six lifted Treatment Tables Recovery & Medical Equipment Weight Room The Weight Room has undergone a superior makeover, now being connected to the players’ lounge and the practice gym, along with getting upgrades to all their equipment to better suit the players’ needs. Monitored by trainers for both teams, this space is helping athletes better themselves on a daily basis.
Connected to the Weight Room is the teams’ Practice Gym, consisting of a full-sized court with six surrounding baskets and a time clock to help the coaches and players with drills and other exercises in preparation for the season. “What a great day for Clemson Basketball,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Brownell. “In 2013, when we first took steps to renovate Littlejohn Coliseum, Joe and Bobbi Swann aided in the advancement of both programs with the construction of the Swann Pavilion. This new project, spearheaded by Jim and Candace Brown, will continue to give us some of the best facilities in the ACC and the country, while enabling us to consistently provide our student-athletes with a first-class experience. I want to thank the Browns for their considerable generosity and strong support of our program.”

Greenville News July 2023
Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum and Swann Pavilion are getting upgrades.
The Clemson University Board of Trustees and the Finance and Facilities Committee on Thursday gave Phase I approval for a $40 million project to that end.
The project, which will benefit both the men’s and women’s basketball programs as well as the women’s gymnastics program that will begin competition in the spring of 2024, includes the renovation of more than 51,000 square feet of existing space and 30,000 square feet of new construction.
Construction is estimated to begin in June of next year, with completion planned before the start of the 2025-26 season. While under way, the project will not impact Clemson's basketball schedules or fan seating, a school spokesperson said.
Improvements are expected to include further development of operations and technology in the women’s basketball team spaces, practice gym, offices and recruiting areas. Other improvements are set to include the modernization and expansion of shared strength and conditioning areas, nutrition and sports medicine.
Some of the newly constructed spaces will include men’s basketball team areas, offices and practice gym.
Each program will have its own designated practice gym.

But he was a McDonald's All American, 2nd team Parade All-American, and Mr Basketball from S.C.
And he was on Brownell's team for 3 years (having been recruited and signed by Purnell).
Brownell's notable recruits...
Top rated recruits of the Brad Brownell Era Tigerillustrated.com
On Wednesday Roebuck - Dorman's P.J. Hall became not only the highest-rated recruit of the Brad Brownell Era, but the highest-rated acquisition (out of high school) by Clemson's basketball program since five-star forward Milton Jennings of Summerville back in 2009.
2020 P.J. Hall 4-star, no. 62 overall 2014 Donte Grantham 4-star, no. 75 overall 2011 Bernard Sullivan 4-star, no. 83 overall (transferred to Charlotte after 1 year) 2017 Amir Simms 4-star, no. 93 overall 2019 Chase Hunter 4-star, no. 105 overall 2016 A.J Oliver 4-star not ranked (transferred to Old Dominion after redshirt sophomore year) 2020 O.M Prosper 4-star, not ranked (transferred to Marquette after freshman year)
So it looks like Brownell manages to recruit on average one 4-star player every 2 years (7 in 14 years), but has trouble keeping them on the roster, as almost half left the team for what most would consider lower echelon teams.

Please let me know when in history we have recruited mcdonalds all americans in basketball. Tommy bowden was recruiting 4 and 5 stars before dabo came along.
Why are we assuming that recruiting for basketball at clemson is on a level playing field as football?

Gonna rely on that old trope that Tommy recruited well. Tommy had 2 five star recruits in his entire tenure: DaQuan Bowers recruited by Marion Hobby and CJ Spiller recruited by…Dabo Swinney. That’s it. Here’s some recruiting rankings for Tommy who had such great “history” to draw on:
2002 - 62nd overall / 10th ACC 2003 - 104th overall / 12th ACC 2004 - 45 overall / 8th ACC 2005 - 36 overall / 3rd ACC 2006 - 66th / 13th ACC 2007 - 16th / 4th ACC 2008 - 11th / 2nd ACC
I wonder what changed for Tommy when recruiting started to uptick? Why didn’t history allow him to recruit well out the gate? I would like to thank you for once again exposing that you aren’t a Clemson fan and are just making crap up as you go. Because absolutely no one that is a fan and lived through that era thinks he was a good recruiter.

So 3 of the 4 classes prior to Dabo taking over were top 3 in the conference.

You should do a little homework before trolling. We were 4th in the ACC in 2008 and in 2009 were 3rd in the ACC with the highest overall ranked class in Clemson basketball history. Our 2010 class (Purnell’s last) was low ranked because we only signed one scholarship. The 2010 team Brownell inherited had made 3 straight tourneys, returned 70% of minutes played and almost the same in scoring, and included not only the best recruiting class in Clemson history but the back to back recruiting classes in Clemson history.
Since 2011, we’ve been 11th, 10th, 14th, 11th, 13th, 12th, 7th, 9th, 8th, 4th, 12th, 14th, and 14th
So in 14 years Brownell has never strung together 3 classes equal to what he inherited from a coach who only worked 7 years. And, he has not had a single class equal the 2009 class

"In 2002, Tommy Bowden—Swinney's former position coach at Alabama— offered him the position of wide receivers coach at Clemson, and Swinney joined in 2003.[25] He also took over as recruiting coordinator from popular longtime coordinator Rick Stockstill.[26] Swinney proved to be both an excellent wide receivers coach as well as recruiting coordinator, coaching ACC-leading receivers and being named
one of the nation's top 25 recruiters in 2007 by Rivals.com
So it was largely Dabo's impact on recruiting under Bowden that provided those good classes and formed the basis for Dabo's early years.

Oh, I didn’t realize recruiting didn’t fall under this head coaches. You’re nullifying one of the biggest Brownell Bros arguments which is that “our history” prevents us from being great unlike football. But if history matters, how many “generational qbs” (a grossly misused term btw) did we have at Clemson prior to Dabo. And using the term “dozens” that try and draw a contrast between a team with 13 scholarships belies your lack of seriousness. Brownell has had 7 NBA draftees come though his program (the equivalent of 46 NFL draftees) come through his program with a minimum of one more in his roster currently. Last year 40% of his starting roster was future NBA players and would be higher if he didn’t tend to run them off. What percent of our starting 22 were NFL draft picks last year?

Why is attending a game a pre-requisite for being a fan? You realize many Clemson Tigers have moved far away from Clemson, right?
The are over 175,000 Clemson alums in the world today. Littlejohn seats 9,000. That's a whole lot of fake fans not attending games, huh?

Then why do we lose so many home games? I heard "winning on the road in the ACC is hard!" But it seems like half of the ACC teams we've played in Littlejohn went home with a W.

Really yall shouldn’t compare football to basketball unless you want to be embarrassed really bad.
Brad ACC championships compared, Tournaments 68 teams lol over 13 years?
There isn’t a comparison, Dabo has exceeded all expectations and Brad hasn’t been even close to expectations.
I’m just being honest, I hope we win it all this season as always but track record against the best coach in college football vs Brad in basketball.
Who would hire Brad right now as coach as compared to who would hire Dabo on the spot if they were available?
Don’t compare the two, it’s embarrassing.
I’m with Brad all the way as long as he is our coach and he has the best talent ever on a Clemson team this season, hopefully he makes a run & I believe he will at least to sweet sixteen.

Objectively though, since their first full seasons as head coaches, Dabo has won 87% of the games he was favored in compared to Brad having won 73% of the games he was favored in. This is just a crude measure though and does not adjust for any other predictors of success such as team talent or program funds.

It was pulled from TeamRankings. You can look at the "Win-Loss Trends" and filter it to look at since a certain year (i.e. since 2010 for Brownell's tenure at Clemson). It has a category in there for record as "As a Favorite" among many other view points.

@ClemsonMountaineers
Congratulations, everyone must like you.
Dude you’re just a Brownell guy. It’s obvious why you got so sour just then.
I have been trying to refrain from Brownell negativity right now because of momentum, but saying he wins when it matters is blasphemous.
There’s been at best “occasions” where Brad has won when it mattered.
He did not win against a 4-win Louisville team last year “when it mattered”.
Examples:
Certainly, here are some specific examples of bubble games that Brad Brownell's Clemson teams have lost in recent years:
1. **Loss to Notre Dame (2016)**: In February 2016, Clemson lost a crucial game to Notre Dame, a fellow ACC team that was also on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Notre Dame won the game 89-83 in overtime, which could have bolstered Clemson's tournament resume with a win.
2. **Loss to Georgia Tech (2017)**: In January 2017, Clemson suffered a setback against Georgia Tech, another ACC team on the bubble. The loss came in double overtime, with Georgia Tech prevailing 75-63. Winning this game could have improved Clemson's standing in the conference and their NCAA Tournament chances.
3. **Loss to Boston College (2018)**: In February 2018, Clemson fell to Boston College in a game that had significant implications for ACC standings and NCAA Tournament positioning. Boston College won 87-82, dealing a blow to Clemson's postseason aspirations.
4. **Loss to NC State (2019)**: In March 2019, Clemson lost to NC State in the ACC Tournament, a crucial game for both teams' NCAA Tournament hopes. NC State won 59-58, and the loss may have hurt Clemson's chances of receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
These are just a few examples of bubble games that Brad Brownell's Clemson teams have lost over the years, where a victory could have improved their postseason prospects but ultimately ended in disappointment.
This is it, I’m done bashing Brownell until after season. I only do this to make a point. Make a pint to a Brownell defender who obviously can’t see from another perspective. A perspective that many Clemson basketball fans look through.
P.S. Of course you deflect onto Dabo out of nowhere. Never act as if Brownell and Dabo are comparable in any situation. Dabo has changed this entire university with his personality and success. Brad has brougt more hardships.
Sorry Brad

It would be an absolutely colossal collapse if we do not make the NCAAT. We are currently projected as a 5/6 seed and our NET is 25. Our remaining schedule is very favorable.
If we miss the tourney, Brownell should be fired before midnight on Selection Sunday.

I’ve probably debated “bracketology” every year with you for close to a decade. You’re the equivalent of the guy who predicts his team to win every game, no matter what, then beats his chest when he is right and ignores all the misses. You would scramble to find the most favorable ranking and argue that we were, at worst, “on the bubble” going into the ACC tourney. There is a high likelihood we are in, possibly even a high seed. That doesn’t mean you had any idea what you were talking about. There are years of evidence to the contrary.

as long as there are games remaining to be played.
I will concede that at 17-7 (7-6), Clemson is looking better (notwithstanding the ongoing scoring droughts that occur EVERY friggin' game), but there are still seven games remaining and Clemson needs to win at least four of those IMHO.

I hear he’s a candidate for the Ohio State job. They’re specifically looking for someone who has proven they can work the portal.

You should never give a coach an extension in the middle of a season. In my opinion.

have we EVER screwed it up at the end of a game, a stretch of season that is critical, in a tournament, etc, under the amazing leadership we currently have ?
Huh ? Well, HUH ? ?
I'll wait.

Bracketology doesn’t matter as evidence from last season where we were projected to be in the tournament. The only thing that matters is selection Sunday.

We were on the bubble and were NOT projected to be in the tournament in the late stages of the season. We were also not as high in the seeding projections as we are this year.

And as was clearly stated by those of us that follow statistics and selection criteria, and later proved by the committee, it didn't matter where we finished in the ACC. We had a terrible overall tournament profile and ended up in the NIT as a result.
This year is different - we have a very strong tournament profile even though we are (currently) lower in the ACC standings.

conference standings are not a criteria the selection committee even remotely considers.
That said, the only thing bracketology tells you is who would likely be in if the tournament started today. However, the tournament doesn't start today and at 17 - 7 with seven regular season games remaining, Clemson still has some work to do to solidify an invitation to the NCAAT.

Yes, we had a horrible tournament profile because we lost games to SCAR, Loyola-Chicago, Louisville, BC...we struggled to win any of our non-conference games (except Loyola-Maryland and Richmond). We lost 3-in-a-row which turned into 4-out-of-5, which started with a loss at BC and ended with a loss at Louisville.
We had won 7 ACC games, were in 1st place, included a win over Duke. In mid-January, we were "a lock" despite the non-conference losses. With one ACC game left to play in January, we were 10-1 in ACC play including 4 road wins.
And then, just like that...a 3-5 February which included the BC and LSV losses (well, the BC loss was on Jan 31). Yet another loss to UVA in ACC tournament (Brownell has never beaten UVA).
This season started a lot better, but as one newspaper wrote:
"Three weeks ago Clemson sat 11-1 with wins over Alabama, TCU, and South Carolina. They were in the top 15, and it looked like Clemson was headed toward a top 3 NCAA seed. Since then Clemson is 1-4, the wheels came off Tuesday night in losing a 9-point lead with just 90 seconds to previously 8-8 (1-4) Georgia Tech. The Jackets have only won 1 game in January.
The Tigers fell to 12-5 (2-4) after that game.
Now, we have stabilized a bit, and sit in a 4-way tie for 5th in ACC at 7-6 (currently with tiebreakers over Pitt and FSU). It looks very good, but taking an attitude that we can "afford" to lose games is defeatist.

To continue tap down The Lunatic Fringe. Funny how they continue to mention Morehead State and never mention North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Limited/no vision when it comes to basketball. No knowledge of Clemson basketball history. Stop whining about the past and enjoy this season. Clemson is going to the tournament. CBB is going to be your coach. The daily whining and crying is just not a good look. Go back to the Lunatic Fringe Clubhouse and lock the door after you get inside.

Knowing you’re actually a real person who does go to games, it is crazy how much you hate Clemson and its fans. If I may, perhaps the same analytical abilities that lead you to believe Brad is great is why your career in sports administration had such a low ceiling. Just a thought.

To avoid violating doxxing rules I won’t say more than his username barely obscures his real name, we have mutual acquaintances and he sits in the courtside club (I think that’s what his section is called). He was Asst AD and SID at a small school. He talked crap about Tommy Bowden that would make the Lunatic Fringe seem cordial. It’s my personal take, based on personal accounts, is that he sees himself as a big fish in a small pond. He likes Brad because Brad coddles those Courtside Club members.

Tommy never had a losing season or losing ACC season (he did quit midseason with a 1-2 ACC record). His overall record at Clemson was .615, and his ACC record was .573. And 4 of his 10 teams finished the season ranked in the top 25. He never did win an ACC title, or even a division title, so he's like Brad in that respect.
"He resigned on October 13, 2008, after leading the team to a disappointing 3–3 record (1–2 ACC) at the midpoint of a season in which the Tigers had been an almost unanimous preseason pick to win their first ACC title under Bowden and were ranked #9 in the preseason polls.

So, just the confirm, Brad tries to keep the BIG donors happy? Potentially a good move on his part to keep the important people on his side. Especially in an unsuccessful year. Which some base on a team's ability to live up to the CBS poll.
I'm thinking Neff might use the official ACC media poll, but now know he also listens to the big donors. Thanks!

This is an honest question. I like BB I think he is a good man but the truth is he has not been a successful basketball coach at Clemson. That is not to trash him, its simply the way it is. Could any coach in America not get lucky enough to make 2 NCAA apperances in 12 to 13 years so far.

I've seen nothing in the last 40 years to even remotely conceive of an ongoing winning program. Where we are is about as good as it will get and we should be happy with that. I think Brownell is a good coach and a stand up guy. We just cannot recruit and it appears our ability to coach up players is limited. I'm not badmouthing any of our players or our coaches. It's just reality. I would love for them to prove me wrong.
