Brownell coaching move near end of game was like something NC

NC or Duke would have done. I’ve not seen this from him in the past. Pitts Burton took the game over at end and we could not stop him one on one. We changed to more of a match up zone to keep him from penetrating and it work and was the reason we won the game in my estimation.

I agree 100%.
We have had trouble stopping an opposing player who gets hot, even when everyone in the gym knows who is going to shoot.
That was a great move and really disrupted them.
I have know idea, but could the addition of Billy Donlon be the difference? He's been a head coach and might be able to offer up that kind of advice in a crucial moment.
IDK. but I'm really impressed with this teams perseverence and ability to make 2nd half runs on offense and defense

Yes, even if we lose that game by a few points I would have been proud of the coaching and effort from that team. In fact as hot as Pitt was I don’t see how we won. We were in their face and they still threw up shots out their backside and made them.

Bourret was noting that our shots were missing short and we were just a touch slow on defense, resulting in unnecessary fouls (when a team is shooting 38% from the floor but 85% from the line, you really don’t want to send them to the FT line). After Wednesday’s game the guys got home after 3 am, so he was looking at fatigue becoming a factor. After the game, Brownell agreed.

So by switching to the zone, he saved the guys’ legs. We gave up a few offensive boards, but it was a worthy trade off, wasn’t it?

Great coaching move. You have to do something even if it don’t work sometimes. Keep doing the same thing you get the same result. That move saved the game as it turned it around.

Not according to the announcers! They claimed once Clemson went to the zone that Pittsburgh should be able to drive and penetrate more. Which is exactly why you go to the zone in the first place! The announcers were horrible and were very disappointed Pitt didn’t win.
