Not gonna happen, but assume it did.

1. Army finishes 13-0, beating ND and Navy twice.
2. Boise finishes 12-1 winning there conference championship.
3. ACC champ has two losses (Miami or Clemson).
Big 12 champ has two losses (Colorado is not the champ).

I could see Army AND Boise finishing ahead of ACC and Big 12 champ so neither gets a bid.

There would be 10 teams from SEC/B1G plus Boise and Army.

Not likely, but if my scenario did come true, I could see the committee shafting ACC and Big 12.

SMU would have to lose thrice in this scenario?

conf champs are still gonna get in. HOWEVER..if we don't win out and that scenario does happen with Army etc, we are sitting at home.

Not if you're the 6th best conference champ.

Inky the highest ranked conference champions get in

If the ACC champ is not one of those and not in the Top 12, a 10-3 ACC champ could get left out.

So...we better win out and beat the Coots.

Fun fact- the Army/Navy game is played after the final CFP rankings are announced. Army could lose that game by 100 and it won't affect their CFP rank.

Army is an independent. They can't take a spot from a conference champion. And, there have to be 5 conference champs. Your scenario only has 3 (SEC/Big10/MWC).

Army is in the American Athletic Conference, not an Independent.

You are right - my bad. I thought only Navy had joined for some reason.

Still, that only leaves 4 conf champs in the OP’s scenario. There would have to be another.

would be in. Army is showing as a member of the AAC in football, so they would be in as well.

ACC gets one auto bid. I don’t see the conference deserving two. No way to get shafted.

The ACC does not get an autobid. That has been explained here extensively.

How many teams in College Football Playoff 2024?

In the 2024-25 season, 12 teams will qualify for the College Football Playoff. The top five conference champions will earn automatic bids, thereby securing the top five seeds. The remaining seven highest-ranked teams will complete the 12-team field.

Yep, top 5 conference champs. That doesn’t mean the ACC is automatic.
