only logical explanation is suck for a few years and draft Beer first overall in 2018?

The first guy is a starter that sits 96.

Any draft picks aren't going to immediately help the Big League offense anyways. These guys are 2-4 years away, at best. Trades in the offseason is where the roster will change and be better.

At one point yesterday I looked at their picks and something like 8 of the 9 picks were pitchers with one pick used on a catcher - so a guy that only plays 120ish games a year. Plus catchers are like RBs in the NFL. Their bodies are torn up by age 30.

They really need some pop in the system. I love the Braves but it is really hard to get behind this team under the current leadership.

You have to keep international free agency in mind. Braves are favorites to sign 6 of the top 30 prospects in July and 5 are position players. Kevin Maitan is the best and if he were eligible in the MLB draft he would have gone #1 overall. Add those guys in there and it is a pretty balanced talent haul.
