Brandon Streeter's impact 31 AUG vs UGA
May 28, 2024, 10:57 AM

|
What, if any impact will Brandon have for UGA getting ready for our offense for the 31 AUG season opener?
My first reaction is he will obviously have some impact. He knows Dabo, he knows CK, he knows the culture. Even though there will be no signaling in of plays as they approved the QB having a device for plays to be called in from the box via radio, he knows how Dabo thinks.
That being said, he knows nothing of Riley and I know its going to be a chess game to play toward's Clemson's tendencies mixed in with doing the exact opposite to catch them off guard. What I am hoping is our O line is improved enough to make feeding Mafah the ball consistently move the chains. And do it enough to have those LBs and a safety have to sneak up so we can catch them off guard with play action pass and use crossing routes and our stable of TEs to beat them over the middle.
If UGA is able to sit back and play cover two all night taking away options for Cade.... its going to be a long night. Our defense is solid and will keep us in it. But if they are on the field for 45 minutes b/c our offense can't get a first down, UGA will be playing on a short field.
We do have Swanson back.... he really could make up for it if our offense struggles. He is a game changer that consistently flipped the field last year. To be quite honest.... without him last year, we may have lost 2-3 more. It is going to be a good year, and I really believe this team will get it together and be in the CFP with an ACC championship. My concern is we historically start out sluggish even playing weak teams. May that not be the case this year. Regardless what happens on 31 AUG, it will be a good year.
And then also, how will Luke's influence on UGAs offense help out our defense. He has been gone for three years from the program, but I guess they just offset each other.

I think the UGA staff is just as savvy with or without Streeter.

Agree 100%.... But to think he will not have a significantly bigger seat at the table for defensive preparations I think is a little bit naive.
He is just an analyst... but his job is basically the scout team coach for the upcoming games offense. It is his job to get the DC ready for the upcoming game until game week. And then his job is to move on to the next opponent so things are ready to go on Sunday for next Saturday's game.

It isn't so much what Streeter knows as what is obvious to everyone. That being, Clemson's oline play hasn't been good and CK has had a tendency to make catastrophic mistakes. Georgia will throw the kitchen sink at him. If he responds well, things get interesting.

Watch out for the ole Billy Bob hook and ladder..... Streeter is an undercover agent strategically placed.
Just kidding... I put the wrong link.

I was joking on the Billy Bob hook n' ladder.
I hate trick plays and I will be embarrassed if Clemson has any trick plays in the first few series. A trick play says one thing.... it means you don't think you can beat the opponent straight up.
I get that everyone has one or two on the play sheet.
I hope this game is 9-6 with only field goals. Lots of running plays and good defense on both sides.

Clemson's first couple of drives will be huge. It isn't uncommon for the Dawgs to give up yards and points very early in the game (Tennessee, SC, Mizzou, Ole Miss). Then the adjustments come and its tough sledding for the opponent. Clemson having a couple 3 and outs early might not bode well.

Thats why we play the game....
Spot the ball. You are favored for good reason, but I am confident it will be a game going into the 4th quarter, and I'll take that with the questions we had on offense last year. On paper, it shouldn't be a game if I take off my orange colored glasses, but I like Dabo in that situation with a summer and fall camp for preparations.
Hoping for a great game and no injuries for either team. Looking forward to playing you guys and wish we started the season every year against each other.
Go Tigers !!!

Peter Woods and Sammy Brown Party

Meeting at Carson Beck. We need Bobby Bouchet/Sammy Brown in the game.
On Offense, CK2 and Tigers need to hit some mid-range passe to open up any lanes for Mafah. UGA will stuff the line and dare Clemson to throw.
On Defense, Wesleychick running obscene high motor blitzes with a handful of UGA turnovers. That's how Tigers steal the victory from #1 UGA.

That's a good question, and I think he will have some impact. The question is how much. But ultimately, I'm not sure how much difference it will really make. Kirby has proven to be one of, if not the, best in the business at preparing his team for a "big game" - particularly with more than the typical 1 week to prepare. Also I'm not sure how critical trying to figure out tendencies will be. To beat Georgia, teams have to run the ball and/or eliminate mistakes (turnovers, bad penalties, etc). Georgia has given up 100 yards rushing to only one player in the last 3 seasons. Not a lot of mystery there. For Clemson, I'll be looking to see if y'all can establish the run. And for us, I'll be looking to see if Beck can layer his throws.

And it goes both ways with Luke now at Clemson. Streeter is two years removed. Luke is three. Just like any big game. The game will be won or lost at the LOS. Can't wait to see who can run the ball.

I don't disagree. I think both coaches will have an impact, just probably not as much as some people want to make it out to be. Streeter played at Clemson, and coached there for a couple stints under two or three different coaches - including seven or eight years under Dabo. Luke played at Ole Miss and coached there for years. He was on Kirby's staff for only 3 seasons. So Streeter probably has a better insight into Clemson's culture than Luke does vis-a-vis UGA. But coaches exchange thoughts and ideas all the time. They hit the clinic circuit. And they look at film. There really aren't that many "trade secrets" for guys like Streeter or Luke to divulge. Bottom line is, Clemson is going to try to do what they do well and stop UGA from what they do well. UGA will try the same.

I’m interested to see once we bring a safety down if we take deep shots down field and with who, also what type of tandem we have to spell Mafah at running back.
I can see us running and mid range passing just enough to put together several drives.

Games are won or lost before they are ever played....
The game will be won this summer in the weight room, film room, and how much extra work they put in without coaches around before fall camp even happens.
Barring any significant injuries in fall camp, its the team that puts in more work this summer that will be sharper come game time.

I hope its the other way around.... Run to open up the pass game. That means our O line is playing well and has vastly improved under Luke.
If we have to pass to open up the run, I'm worried about our O line holding up and picking up the blitzes that will be coming from everywhere. CK hasn't shown us superior decision making.
This game hinges on our O line.

My opinion, it would take a Travis Etienne type back to get 100yds against UGA. I’m thinking UGA will make Mafah look extremely slow and I really do not see Mafah running over or through UGA’s defensive line /linebackers. Cade better start hitting some passes over 20yds early if Clemson hopes to have 100 yds rushing overall.
