ACC is a dominant Baketball Conference - why not Clemson

Clemson has no investment in Basketball. We settle for weak coaches or loose the decent ones because we won’t spend the cash. Clemson’s been rankedi in the AP final poll 6 times and only Rick Barnes had us in the final top 10. Clemson should make March Madness most every year but we keep sorry coaches and won’t pay to get or keep good coaches.

It's not like CBB gets paid that poorly. He gets what Jay Wright from Villanova gets.

He is not bad nationally. It's not like he is underpaid. He makes a lot more than Johnny Dawkins at UCF. He gets paid about what Jay Wright gets.

It's too difficult to rank coaches by their salary

Brad makes about $2.5M/year. Roy Williams makes about $542,000/year. But when you look at total compensation there's no way Brad makes more than Roy. Bruce Pearl makes about $2.52M/year and he's in the top 30 of college basketball coaches' salaries. If you stack up total salaries, not including max bonus potential I'm guessing Brad would be somewhere between 25th-35th nationally...but that's just a guess at best.

We're talking college basketball and that is the only thing that counts. There are great ooaches working for the same or less than CBB.

We don't make sure we have a HC who can.........

recruit real talent - who has connections with the right high schools around the country, for example.
We've got to get the talent first. Then, we can talk about in-game coaching skills, etc.
Dabo's proven that point. Without the talent first, it doesn't matter what you do next.
We need a HC who can RELATE to these big-time kids in HS. It's obvious the guy we have now can't.

Agreed! I’d like to see Tiger Basketball to be much better and it can be. But I wouldn’t trade our football program to be average and our basetball team to be the same. Football will always be #1 for the Tigers. I say just keep doing what we are doing I think it’s working!
Go Tigers!

Being good in football & bball don't have to be mutually

exclusive! I don't want to give up a bit of what we have in football, but there is still plenty of room for improvement in basketball! I guess Brownell is like the preacher who can deliver a decent sermon, but is not dynamic enough to increase attendance at the Sunday service.

Actually, they kinda are. Name a dominant "historical" level program in both sports. Not just a short run, but a historical program in BOTH. I will wait. Yeah, nope. Actually, the "basketball" schools are normally the bottom dwellers of football. Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas... or don't even have a D1 football team (Zags, Georgetown, Nova, UCONN-snicker).
I think only Florida and UCLA (decades ago) have done it in the past 100 years. Now look at their program. You can't sustain it. OSU came very close... 31-0 close but close with some runner-up items. It is RARE.
Clemson is actually a good example for not investing in both with resources your dont have. A smaller school, especially resource wise, that really went "all in" on a specific sport top both get lucky and be in a position to win. And we won. Look at Villanova. Very specific program for basketball... football is DII I think. Coastal has invested in Baseball. It is a good strategy. Now compared that to a school that literally tried to do everything: Maryland. There is a reason why they are broke. They chased everything and did not have the resources to do anything tother than amass debt from firing overpaid coaches on all fronts. A lot of other schools with more resources have literally been handing out cash to buy a title (see Georgia), but even UGA isnt very good at a lot of sports. Don't get me wrong, we are good at other sports too, but not all. (Good: Baseball, Soccer, Golf, Track). It was the reason why a LOT of our first 50 years of basketball had "football" coaches. We used basketball to supplement our assistant football coach salaries.

Nobody is suggesting that we trade our football program to be average and our basketball team to be the same, but there is no reason I can see why the basketball team can't compete, year in and year out with those teams not named Dookie, UNCheat, and UVAchoke. We are definitely doing something right in football, but something just ain't working in basketball.

My understanding is that BB has been given the resources in coaches and marketing. I haven’t seen any big marketing tools like fb

and enthusiasm. He is a lump of blah. Recruiting will never be what it could be under him.
We've put money into basketball, first under Purnell, and then under Brownell, plus our football success has elevated our profile, and yet we still struggle to recruit good players while missing out on the good in-state players that go elsewhere and succeed. We don't spot and develop talent well and many transfer out to other programs.
