Brad Brownell has NEVER had a program identity

And now that we are in this s$!| hole with our roster, has no way out. There’s no “winning culture” to recruit from, there’s no championship pedigree, there’s no core team promoters to serve as examples for other recruits, there’s no player development (ie Paw Journey) that appeals to players or families…..there is NO substance to sell. Hopefully he’s got some nil money to use to attract players but it feels like we have no CLEMSON program with a CLEMSON IDENTITY.

I don't think there is a problem with the roster. It's an opportunity and not a crisis at all. It's part of college basketball now and we are in a good situation. Let's see who we get and see where we stand.

I think the question goes to a deeper level. I agree that it is not a crisis.

However, in a competitive market, what differentiates Clemson from say Tennessee or LSU? What are the intrinsic qualities of a program that set it apart from competitors? Or, is it simply the prize goes to the highest bidder? In that case instead of visits, portal players should just put out a bid deadline. He or she packs up and heads off to the highest bidder.

I agree that it will be interesting to see how competitive we are. That's the only issue. We need a a lot of course, but I think whoever we get will be as good as those who transfered, so there is that. Hopefully, they are upgrades though. I suspect they will be.

Was Heidbreder an upgrade over a Josh Beadle with another year of growth and development here under his belt? Was Myles Foster an upgrade over the in and out Jack Clark, or Godfrey? Reeves is gone now - is that a miss?
Honestly, we're batting right at .500 in the portal since instant eligibility came about. It is better than the .250 Brad hits with HS recruits, but now we are in a position of needing significant volume and production from the portal, and just in time for the biggest Sellers market the sport has seen there. Other than that we have a roster full of kids with negligible seasoned program leadership. Yeah - it's an opportunity all right. When you have a blank slate you're looking at and no other options - it can't help but be.

Well if they are equal there will be nothing to complain about. We have way better young players too. That said, I think we will do well in the portal.

Way better young players? Del Jones, our best of them, just left. What on earth leads you to believe Brad will suddenly start getting production from them, and/or keep them? Is this a new characteristic he will be employing here?

Rev, those robes are so dope. I’m singing the special soon at my home church. I haven’t sang in public (besides the choir) since the 90’s when I was in a secular band. I’m doing my version of an oldie called “The Sun’s Coming Up” and I’m a little nervous. Say a prayer for me!

Well. You aren’t wrong. This, however, isn’t a Clemson phenomenon. It’s happening so much that a large chunk of D1 teams have applied to drop to D3! I always thought over 300 D1 basketball teams was a bit much. We’re basically losing quad four to d3. Thanks NIL!

Underachieving. Failure to earn top 25 (twice in 30+ yers) ranking at seasons end. Losing to far inferior teams in post season play. Mostly missing post season play. No conference championships. Extreme losing record in post season play. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Failure to use strategic timeouts to stop the bleeding. I could go on and on.

why not provide your own explanation of Clemson's basketball identity under Brad Brownell?
Could it be because you know there really hasn't been one and the poster is correct?

NOTHING created by Basketball leadership (starting with our head coach) that differentiates us in any shape, form, or fashion.
Nothing.
It needs to be something that can be articulated by every member of the staff and team.
