My dad was 20 when he did his missions in a B-22 as a gunner. Got a purple heart. Came back after the war and got his solo pilots license. He always loved planes. I found hios squadrons website and read their mission recaps. It will curl your hair to hear what they went throu. Dad would never talk about any of it. Respiratory issues from the missions probably led to him not making it to age 50.

My father in law joined at age 16 so his brother would not have to go. He didn't think his brother could handle the military from a mental standpoint so this allowed him to stay at home and work the farm.

I’m thinking B-24. Tail gunner would be terrifying. The respiratory issues is interesting to me. The B-24 was infamous for leaking fuel. So much so that crews use to fly with the bomb doors cracked open so as not to be overwhelmed by fumes. As a tail gunner, your dad would have been the one crew member mostly likely to be bathed in fumes the most, based on airflow.

Now days, the boys have a melt-down when their social media accounts are suspended. Heaven forbid that Starbucks forgets to add extra soy in their lattes.

I think you've definitely won today's award for the most idiotic, clueless, uninformed, brain-dead comment on the internet - before 8:00 AM!! That's an accomplishment. You should celebrate with another bong hit.

The country didn’t “send” 16 year olds to war, at least not knowingly. This young man lied to be able to enlist. What is being glorified is exceptional bravery from a young man willing to risk his life to defend his country. Thanks for proving the OP’s point by not getting it.

Our culture has changed so much in America that we will never see that generation (my dad's generation) again.

Things have changed. I was in high school when 9/11 happened. Every guy I knew signed up to take the ASVAB test to enlist and they even provided a bus at Barnwell High School to take us to the testing center. I made a 99% on the test and was a 4 sport letterman. Every branch of military called me for months, recruiters from every branch would be at the high school and I would get a message to come to the office to meet them.
There wasn’t 1 single branch that would let me enlist due to being a Type 1 diabetic.
It’s always bothered me that I did everything I could to sign up, but rules/regulations kept me out.

I had a uncle that was 4f in 1942 and he helped build the atomic bomb in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to help the WW2 effort. God bless you for offering your service to our country.

I was 16 when Iran took the hostages in 1979 and tried to enlist. Didn’t think about lying about my age but since I was 16 I needed my parents to sign off in it and my mom was having none of it. By the time I turned 18 in January of 1981, I was in the middle of my freshman year at Clemson and the hostages were released one week after my birthday. At that time I was in a different place so never did enlist.

It took a couple of generations but those out to destroy American/Western culture by eliminating the dominant male in the home environment, have virtually succeeded. They have taken our country from a male led society of heroes to a female dominated bunch of Soy Boys. God help us all!!

Schools and Soy

The schools are teaching our kids that the country is not to be honored. The kids grow up thinking they are living in a terrible country. Of course, the guys don't want to defend it.
Many of the foods that kids and adults eat contain soy and other additives, known to cause guys to have higher estrogen, thus less testosterone...leads to wusses...

17 year olds were lining up to fight in WW2. Some of these kids had never even left their home town. Many had to fight for 2 or more years while sleeping in foxholes, starving, staring down tanks, watching others die, and taking shrapnel before getting to return home. My teenagers are good kids, but I cannot imagine them or their friends going through such a nightmare.
