I am not enthused about either being coaches. Neither have had any success in professional football. This friends and family hiring needs to stop

"Neither have had any success in professional football."
Neither had Dabo when he was hired. He never played beyond college. Tahj and Ben both were at least signed to practice squads for the NFL. Both were outstanding at their position and can teach what they did that made them so successful.
The greatest coaches aren't hall of famers usually, but someone with a deep understanding of the job.

I agree with you. Less talented players often make the best coaches because they had to become students of the game to have the success they’ve had. That’s true in many sports.
In baseball, for example, one of the most popular hitting philosophies was the Charlie Lau school. He was a relatively weak hitting journeyman catcher in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s who became a highly respected hitting coach in the majors.

it doesn't seem to me like Dabo has learned his lesson about hiring former players, with no prior coaching experience, and putting them in key roles.
Maybe that's just me. Hoping for the best.

Hate to throw stones but our great receivers are what made Tajh good. All he had to do was throw the ball in the vicinity of those receivers and they would go get them. Tajh was a good QB but his receivers made him in my opinion.

Wrong.
Tajh was not good in 2010. His limited body of work in 2010 proved that Dabo was justified in RS’ing Tajh during his true FR season in 2009. (Tajh backed up starting QB Kyle Parker … who was an OK but undistinguished QB … in the 2010 season.)
BTW, DeAndre Hopkins was a true FR (and an instant stud) for the entirety of the 2010 season.
Tajh started at QB from the first game of 2011 season. By then, he was coached up enough to throw accurate deep passes (down the middle and deep out routes) to our world class WR unit of 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Summary: It would have helped if you had actually watched Clemson FB in 2010 before making your comment about how easy Tajh had it in the seasons following 2010.

The OC call plays - the QB still needs to execute them.

Ben may gain a title, but senior Tom will still be the lead guy with LB's. This is primarily about the shift in recruiting right now. They'll coach, they've been doing that. Boyd's been working with QB's several years now. But they won't control the rooms. Seems like a pretty good way for 2 young guys to learn coaching to me

I'm not generally a fan of the friends and family hires, but both Ben and Tajh have a lot of intensity. They know the game, they have cred, and they're young enough to connect well with their position rooms.
Hopefully that translates to improved team performance.

They've each been in a coaching / analyst role for a season at their positions, Tajh a bit longer. QB play took a major step up - LBs have a new alpha dog in charge so even more opportunity for Boulware to learn the ropes in his current support role.

Nah, I see this as different, I hope. Since these are additional coaches, they'll take their marching orders from the two experienced coordinators. Frees up the coordinators to concentrate on each group.
That said, I could see it getting to be too much like a big office and too much management especially since the coaches can get only so many hours with the kids.

it takes our coordinators off the road to focus solely on running their units and we have two guys teaching and recruiting that were dang good players and passionate about recruiting Clemson.
I think we'll be fine and its a group effort. Boulware is exactly the kind of guy you want coaching LBers...but Allen will of course be very involved.
This more allows both of those guys to be in charge of a unit (with full assistance from their bosses) and be a recruiter.

No one liked that 5 game losing streak to S.Carolina starting with 2009 and ending with 2013 season.
I’ll agree with you that 2013 was a particularly galling loss. Tajh was a turnover king in that game. Awful.
For 2010 through 2012 seasons, inclusive, those were by far the best consecutive three years in S.Carolina’s history of FB. Losing to them in 2022 and 2024 was much more troubling than our losses to them in 2009 (we were a one-trick pony [C.J.Spiller] that year), 2010 (we ended that season with a 6-7 record), 2011 (our defense was poor that year), and 2012 (we were a good team that got beat by a comparably good team … it happens sometime).

It is disappointing that Dabo isn’t committed to getting the best. We have the budget for it, plus if we are going to be a developmental program we are going to need expert coaching.

Well my opinion on Ben Boulware Aka Ben 10 Is biased... He was one of our favorite players. I am excited about him being a coach and I think he will do a good job.
Tahj Boyd- WR can make a QB look better than he is. I got a little salty toward him a couple of times.. But I am not going to count him out!!
I know some of you hate it when Dabo hires former players !! But Dabo knows these guys! No one makes home run decisions everytime. I think that the changes being made are good ones and I am excited about the upcoming season...
I would love to see Tyler Shatley come here.

In theory, Riley and Allen need to touch every position group room. Being the primary QB and LB position coachs makes that hard to do. Boyd and Ben will run the QB and LB rooms the way Riley and Allen need them to, as these groups “lead” the offense and defense.

I think these two will bring something a bit different to the recruiting trail. They both played for Dabo, not just work with him. They can give recruits a different perspective on our program.
I hate to admit it, although I had my moments in sand lot ball, they were a tad bit better than me in college, oh yea HS, and Jr High. ">">">

I think a lot of you are confused. Allen & Riley are not going to be on the road recruiting. Dabo wants both coordinators on campus. Riley is still both coordinator & QB coach with supplemental coaching from Boyd. Allen is both coordinator & LB coach with supplemental coaching from Boulware, The only difference is they are not recruiting on the road other than that their roles are the same. You still have to get recruits on campus for official visits that were they will primarily be recruiting targets. That & of course phone calls & social media.

I love the thought of 2 former players coming in and wanting to try and better the program. I wish more would come around. Boulware seems to have the attitude needed to coach up anyone, and Boyd could turn out to be good at seeing and correcting flaws he sees on film.
Not going to down any former players that want to come back to their alma mater to make a contribution. Sounds like it is part of the culture that has been built here.

And let’s also get a dose of reality here. The OC is a good qb coach and the new DC is a good linebacker coach
It’s not like they are going to be left on some island out there like Wes Goodwin was coaching linebackers

That is a lazy and ridiculous metric to determine whether you are excited about a coach. Ever heard of guys named Saban, Sarkisian, Holtz, Spurrier, and so many more who were never even in the pro's or were nit successful there. In many cases I would rather have someone who has been highly successful in college, knows recruiting and can recruit than someone because they have been in the pros.
