I am a Blanton's fan, but there are so many good small batch bourbons out there. Maybe ask your retailer about something interesting, depending on your price point. More expensive not necessarily better !

Anything Wellers if you can find it. Antique 107 is good. However over the last few years Weller (and bourbon in general) has become super popular and it is very easy to overpay for it. Don't spend more than 80 bucks for it. Honestly you shouldn't spend more than that for any bourbon in my opinion. I know some people will claim that if you haven't tried Col Tom T Jackson IV 90 year old Special Reserve that costs $1000 per bottle you are "missing out".... you are not. Plenty of good bottles for a reasonable price so just go with your gut and he will like it. Good luck my friend.

But something fairly special that doesn’t break the bank. Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels is a reasonable statement bourbon. I paid 90 the last time, but seen it for 80.

Rabbit Hole Heigold? Blue label? If so...it's excellent! Bought a bottle for $60 in Mt. Pleasant this past weekend...at Bottles. They had Heaven Hill at $49...that would be a nice gift.
OF 1920 will make you stand up and take notice...not sure I'd use it as an introduction to bourbon, but the OP didn't sound like his son is new to 'brown'.

I don’t post often but you got me at bourbon. I have Blanton’s, Weller Antique 107, Weller Special Reserve, Woodford, etc, etc on my Bourbon shelf, but to me the best “easier to get “ bourbon is Eagle Rare. I pay around $45 per bottle here in N GA. It’s very smooth and I only drink it neat. Good luck on your quest.

There is a new release by Bib & Tucker called Double Char (not their regular 6 year) which is extra aged in a maple smoked heavy charred barrels. Extremely smooth and great flavor. Not may reviews yet but the few reviews that are out have it very highly rated. It's not in every store yet, but if you can find it, it's $49 to $54.

I'd go for something smooth and low ABV. I like drinking bourbon but don't do it enough to go for a high rye or high proof. I don't really do it enough to be sure I'm saying that right.
I like Blantons and Basil Hayden.
