Boyd's record versus the top 25...

Jul 16, 2013, 12:41 PM

Murray's isn't stellar.......how has Tajh fared?

Re: Boyd's record versus the top 25...

Jul 16, 2013, 12:42 PM

I have no idea. This game matters. History does not

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Since he took the starting job in 2011

Jul 16, 2013, 12:45 PM

He's beaten a ranked Auburn team twice, FSU, VT twice and LSU. That's 6.

He's lost to SC twice and WVU. That's 3.

So he wins twice as many as he loses.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oops forgot about FSU this year

Jul 16, 2013, 12:47 PM

That's 6-4

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn was 25 in the USA today poll when we played last

Jul 16, 2013, 12:52 PM

season so that's technically 7 wins against top 25 teams

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

I counted Auburn twice because of that***

Jul 16, 2013, 12:55 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I put that FSU loss on the defense.

Jul 16, 2013, 12:53 PM [ in reply to Oops forgot about FSU this year ]

Tajh played great in that game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Completely agree but the record still is a loss for the team***

Jul 16, 2013, 12:56 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL. That is exactly what I was thinking. D and ST blew that

Jul 16, 2013, 7:33 PM [ in reply to I put that FSU loss on the defense. ]

one out of the water....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Weird......

Jul 16, 2013, 1:17 PM [ in reply to Oops forgot about FSU this year ]

I would figure the uga fan would look up some stats before posting such a question...

Looking at the schedules and rankings from the past few years (According to ESPN) Tajh is 5-4 and Aaron is 4-10 vs top 25 competition. If my math is correct, the average ranking of top 25 opponents are 12.55 for Clemson and 11.93 for UGA. Average ranking of opponents in top 25 wins is 12.40 for Clemson and 15.25 for UGA.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of those losses, Tajh isn't responsible for all, either

Jul 16, 2013, 12:56 PM

Our defense was severely lacking for his two years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WVU last year and FSU this year were on the D

Jul 16, 2013, 12:57 PM

In both games Tajh played well enough to win but in both games the D crumbled.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

An average showing by the defense beats the Coots, too

Jul 16, 2013, 1:01 PM

The offense had some problems, but a few stops would have drastically changed the outcome of that game. Couldn't get them off the field.

But again, coulda shoulda woulda.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, but Tajh did not play that well in both of those games

Jul 16, 2013, 1:04 PM

In both he felt pressure that wasn't there and if you go back and watch you can see that he walked into a few of the Clowney sacks himself. Morris didn't help by not putting a TE or RB on that side but a lot of times Tajh got happy feet and pulled down to run instead of continuing through his checks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Of those losses, Tajh isn't responsible for all, either

Jul 16, 2013, 3:08 PM [ in reply to Of those losses, Tajh isn't responsible for all, either ]

And our OL has been very marginal since he has been at Clemson. Last season we began to see improvement in the OL, and I expect this year's OL to be the best we've had in a long time, but still not where we want it. Give Tahj some time, and he and Chad will eat you alive with all the skill we have, IMO.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

OP got quiet fast.***

Jul 16, 2013, 12:58 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because in big games Tajh normally plays very well

Jul 16, 2013, 1:06 PM

At least well enough to win the game. Rarely have we looked back on a big game and said that we lost because Tajh didn't play well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Officially, Boyd is 6-4 as a starter

Jul 16, 2013, 1:05 PM

Wins:
Auburn 2011
FSU 2011
Virginia Tech 2011
ACC Championship 2011
Auburn 2012 (ranked #25 by USA Today Poll)
Chick-fil-A Bowl 2012

Losses:
South Carolina 2011
West Virginia 2011
FSU 2012
South Carolina 2012

And yet everyone says he folds against ranked competition. Too bad the actual statistics can't back up their opinions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And in the WVU and FSU games we scored 30+ both times

Jul 16, 2013, 1:07 PM

It wasn't the offense that lost those games for us

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

regardless of their records Boyd and Murray

Jul 16, 2013, 1:07 PM

are two of the top QB's in all of college football. This should be one hell of a game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Both offenses are explosive. Defense will decide this game

Jul 16, 2013, 1:08 PM

And in that I believe we have a clear advantage purely because of returning experience and depth at all positions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: regardless of their records Boyd and Murray

Jul 16, 2013, 7:23 PM [ in reply to regardless of their records Boyd and Murray ]

Their records are actually quite even:

Tajh Boyd:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/480221/tajh-boyd

Aaron Murray:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/480210/aaron-murray

and if you get technical, and look at the fact Murray has started fully 3 years, vs Tajh's 2 full years (and partial play in 2010)...thus the career differences. If they had played equal amount of years and Tajh had been averaging what he did his 2 starting years, his career would be higher than Murray's (seeing they are only 2038 yards different and Tajh has been averaging over 3800 yards both years). So counting their records would be more like it...

A better way to look at it....

Jul 16, 2013, 1:44 PM

How many games against Top 25 teams has Boyd cost us with lousy play?

Now, how many has Murry cost the Dawgs?

I honestly don't know the answer for y'all, but I can't think of a Top 25 loss we can hang on Boyd.

Re: A better way to look at it....

Jul 16, 2013, 2:54 PM

Well, Rev., I can name two--both in November after Turkey Day! The Sat. after Thanksgiving, Tajh doesn't seem to play his best, and appears to get confused about which color jersey to throw to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can't make good decisions when your O-line won't let you

Jul 16, 2013, 6:22 PM

Of course, the one exception to this is the LSU game. A game where I think Boyd finally decided "look I know my line sucks against good competition, so I'm gonna start doing all the work myself."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

mcb, when was the last time clemson played a good football

Jul 16, 2013, 7:02 PM [ in reply to Re: A better way to look at it.... ]

game, in your opinion ? for you to be a tiger fan(?), you sure are one heck of a critic! i would rank you up there with low country raccoon, and certain other uh, tiger supporters.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: mcb, when was the last time clemson played a good football

Jul 16, 2013, 7:12 PM

The Tigers played a great game against LSU, no doubt about that. They played the kind of physical, kick-butt ball that I had hoped to see for a long time coming. I also thought that the Clemson coaches outsmarted, out-gameplanned, and made better game decisions and adjustments than the LSU coaches in all three areas of the game. However, I believe it was just the opposite against SC, coaching-wise, and has been for the past four years.
