Bond, James Bond.

Friends and I got into a different tailgate debates.

One topic that could not be settled.

Name your top three actors that played James Bond and who would be the best next one?

For me

1. Sean Connery
2. Roger Moore
3. Pierce Brosnan

A bad** bond would have been local actor Chadwick Boseman.

Go Tigers.

Haven't watched many of the new ones but Daniel Craig is a good bond. Definitely no Sean Connery but certainly better than Peirce Brosnson

I am of the opinion that with Daniel Craig that they turned Bond into just another over-muscled action hero - and lost all of the class and wit of the character.

I thought Craig and Bronson were pretty good.
Let's see it's 2024 so the next Bond will probably be a transgender.

I got Lazenby 3rd on that list over Craig, though he was good also.

Chadwick could have really been something else there. Great call.

No Timothy Dalton?

I dont think it the actor so much as the story and the time.

So Bond fought against common enemies using smarts, daring, sex appeal and gadgets. By the time the Soviets fell apart we'd lost one common enemy, cool gadgets could be had at the local Radio Shack and sex had become dangerous.

Connery made the character and had good movies to work in. Moore seemed to have had all that would have been necessary, he had the best cars and gadgets, conveyed well the blue blood pedigree but the material he had to work with fell off pretty bad, and he stayed too long. Dalton's first movie was okay but boy did his material fall apart. Brosnans first was about as good as Bond gets and he carried it pretty well. He had other good movies to work with but he just never convinced me, outside the first movie, that he was Bond. Craig became Bond, his material was much better, his villains were really good....his only shortcoming was lack of gadgets. Without Q branch setting him up for success, he lacks something. It's true he became Bond but much more independent, too much so as he didn't need the support of Qs gadgets.

Lazenby. Well, he had lots going for him, but that movie was just a little weird

Bond movies, IMHO. Which pretty much sealed Craig as my pick of the best Bond. I’m a traditionalist by nature, but Craig really won me over.

The last scenes in the last movie “No Time To Die” were just classic, perfect Bond.

The Spectre theme carried across 3 Bond films was really filmmaking genius.

Gotta go:

1. Connery
2. Craig
3. All the rest tied for last.

Irdis Alba would make a good one, but already starting to age out.
Kit Harrington was great as Jon Snow (Game of Thrones) Bond? Dunno
James Norton has been in the mix. Not sure I'm ready for a redhead Bond.

I think the Broccoli family has done a good job protecting the character. Although I didn't appreciate the final of Time to Die. I don't believe they would let a woman play the character. That's just not who Ian Flemming wrote about.

So, Disney keep your frickin hands off this franchise!

Connery first. Moore last. Others somewhere in the middle.

couldn't get out of that Remington Steele role on tv and take on the mantle earlier than he did.

"Bad" Bonds would be George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton. I was also never really on board with Daniel Craig as Bond, although he did bring a harder edge to the role.

Roger Moore played an almost cartoonish Bond.

My ratings would be:

1. Brosnan
2. Connery
3. Craig
4. Moore
5. Dalton
6. Lazenby
7. "Never Say Never Again" Connery. He was just too old by that point.

I would say Roger Moore. Taking on the role is difficult in it's own right. But the longer he played the part, the more of a parody it became. Live and Let Die was great. The man with the Golden Gun was made great by Christopher Lee, but that turned to silly by re-introducing J.W. Pepper and the character Knick-Knack. Moonraker was a horrible joke. And rehashed another henchman Jaws.

I'm curious as to how the choices reflect the age of the responder.....

Meaning I grew up with Roger Moore (48 here), but loved the No BS of Connery.

For me "Bond" was always Moore, but as I aged and watch the older ones, I came to appreciate the character Connery made.

Speaking of, Connery in Hunt for Red October was classic....."Things don't react well to bullets..."
