Why was Watson ranked 10th in the Elite 11 camp?
Jul 4, 2013, 5:52 PM
|
|
I assume the others got graded higher by the evaluators in OR. I had been hearing that he was SO good and had an earlier #1 ranking in some recruiting polls - just assumed he would have finished higher.
May have just had a bad day or two, the travel/jet lag could have cost him some, was there too much hype at the beginning?
Anyone have the real low down?

We'll be 10th in the nation in two hand touch.
He gained over 1,000 yards rushing last year, too. The QB doesn't run in touch football that they plau.

Kid has wheels , throws a pretty good deep ball and his underneath stuff is solid. He had a bad week...but dont we all. Also , the way I see it is that with the numbers and results he has put up in Gainesville GA ...I am not worried about his talent at the qb position. You dont see Chad Morris , Urban , Kevin Sumlin and Ol'Satan himself going after any "maybe goods".

After day 2 of skill sets, Watson rated at #4. He entered the 7 on 7 contest in the second half of his game. His receivers were not running their routes at full speed. Some looked lost, and when he did hit his receivers through a tight window, they couldn't come up with a single catch. The QBs only had 4 seconds to throw the ball or be pentalized w/a sack and 5 yard loss. His production also relied on the receivers getting open as well. He could have thrown the ball at any time, but wouldn't have been to successful with a DB waiting on the ball as well. He only played a half on his final day of competition, because his team was eliminated after they lost. His team was trailing at the end of the first half. Had his team advanced to the 3rd round of campetition, his rating would have been a little higher.

He didn't get bumped down because he was committed to an ACC school. He came in 10th because half of the rankings is based on 7 on 7 performance and he didn't play well. 7 on is slanted much more toward pocket passers and Deshaun is a dual threat that hurts you with arm and legs.

I can't believe you really don't know the answer. The mainstream media has an agenda to denigrate and humiliate Clemson in every possible way. There is also a hidden agenda to make Dabo look like an over-emotional fool who can't coach, so they try to make him sound like a total cornpone in the post-game interviews. ESPN, CNN, FOX, The State, The Greenville News, The Post and Courier, The Spartanburg Herald, The Wall Street Journal, The NY Times, ABC, NBC, CBS, Disney, and The Baptist Courier all despise Clemson and try their best to mock and humiliate all things Tiger! Ergo, Watson was the best QB there by far, but his very strong Clemson ties sealed the deal.

It has nothing to do with where he is committed.
Like the others, he didn't not perform well in the 7 on 7. Didn't drive his team down the field often enough. Lots of 3 and outs. Not his fault. His throws appeared on the money and he was throwing into some tight spots. The receivers on his team didn't know how to make a catch. A lot of throws they had it in their hands and dropped a tough catch but still one where the catch should had been made to move the chains.

on a series of throwing skills test and the 7 on 7 games that accounted for 50% of the score. I wouldn't read too much into the score it is touch football after all. As Coach Bowden use to say about some of Clemson's D-Lineman they look like Tarzan and play like Jane........ You can't really measure how a player is going to play in pads and under fire doing skills test and during a flag football game.

South Carolina had Jarvis Giles, a running back who won one of these skills competitions, but it never translated to the field.

Because he flat out sucked at The Opening, that's why. Not gonna lie, I was aggravated with Watson the past few days. The announcers loved it too. They took that opportunity to rag on all of his shortcomings, and the areas of his game that weren't as good as the other top QB's there.
Just what we needed. More bad publicity. Oh well, let's just hope the nerves got to him.

This is all just off-season hot air. There's little better to talk about. Everyone here knows how good he is; they just want him to be recognized for his talent, is all. Don't take such a condescending tone.
