Biggest issues heading in to L’ville game…

Nov 10, 2022, 2:05 PM

QB contain. FSU’s QB was able to run around on us. Our defense no longer takes the fight to opposing offenses like under BV, we are very reactive instead of proactive. We will see if Goodwin evolves from this. He will need to in a hurry.

Turnovers. If we lose the turnover margin again we have no shot. If this game was at Louisville we could probably pick them to win outright.

I think we have to ground and pound on offense and hold on to the ball. Louisville will put up points but at least it’s in the valley which is a huge advantage.

Look, I was frustrated and embarrassed last week just like everyone else but if we are honest, we had games last year when our defense was no great. I really think those guys that were on our team that got blasted by Ohio State 2 years ago have not recovered from that and that game started our slide. This week needs to be a mulligan and a new start.

Defense should have Simpson spying Cunningham the whole game and the offensive line has to get a push. They are consistently battling back after the snap to try a regain leverage they lost by coming off the ball too slow.

Lack of leadership, pride and true grit!

I've watched, listened and read so many player and coach responses to the ND game (and the season for that matter) and I continue to ask the same questions: Where is the heart and pride of this team? Where is the leadership? Where's the emotion??

In every player and coach post game PR, they consistently say over and over that ND was the better team that night. I agree ND was the better team because it was obvious they wanted it. We have just as much talent, maybe even more across the board, but we were not on the same level emotionally... not even close. And it looks like that same care-free attitude remains this week during the press conferences... so my fear is it will be on display again during the L'ville game.

Offensively are we going to continue calling the same plays over and over this week? That bubble screen is a joke. If it's not working, change it! Do we not have any capability to stretch the field, even just a little? Streeter is just in over his head I guess. Our receivers look like they're giving maybe 80%... maybe. Poor attempts at blocking and their routes look like they're jogging. Without any separation any QB's going to struggle. DJ may look good during practice, but he's an average QB at best during games. Dabo should have never put Cade in the situation he did and he definitely should not have pulled him when he did. If DJ comes back next year, it won't surprise me if we lose Cade to the portal.

It's unlikely the offensive staff will commit to the run game.

the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents defense and structuring the playing calling accordingly. That's supposedly why the OC sits in a box. It's so he can see what the defense is doing and then call plays that create mismatches and attack weaknesses.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Agree 100% on ground and pound. But I doubt Streeter does.

I believe when you look at our current personnel on O, it just makes sense. Scratching my head as to why we don't do it.

Biggest issue? Coaching and coaching accountability. This game, next game, and the next game.

Biggest issue: Last week the Offense took off the entire game. Defense took off the 4th Qtr. The team quit. Will the team show up and play? This is the #1 issue.

And who's responsibility is it to see that they show up and play?

One Coordinator is too soft, the other lost. If an issue, they call out the players (except one).

The team didn't quit. You need to reassess your ability to assess football.

Our problem isn’t the defense, it’s the offense, if the offense will sustain some drives the defense will be fine, not perfect but do a very good job.

Take away the 21 points we gave them (punt block, Cade's INT on the 6 yard line and the pick six), it was a game. Our defense gave up a ton of yards on the ground, but it should have been a much closer game. don't think that changes the outcome of the game b/c our offense was so bad. but our defense wasn't the problem in South Bend.
