DJ isn’t the problem

Nov 8, 2022, 12:11 PM

A ton of blame for our offensive woes has been placed on DJ. While some of it is due I’d argue that DJ is working with the worst receiving corps we’ve had in recent memory.

Who’s catching 50/50 (that were once 80/20) balls for us? No Mike Williams. Not even a Deon Cain. Allen and Briningstool? Ngata has been a colossal bust. Beaux Collins can’t catch the ones that hit him in the hands. EJ… I mean is he still on the team? Dacari is a bust.

Antonio Williams is our only guy and he’s too small to go up and dominate the jump ball. Adam Randall gives us some hope but I think he hasn’t adjusted to the speed of the game.

I mean heck, we’d be better off putting Dabo Swinney Jr Jr out there.

DJ has made a ton of mistakes but you can’t place all the blame on him. Need some guys to step up or the guys need better coaching.

Lol. But come on, have you watched our receivers? No separation no running around waving hands to get open when the play breaks down.

DJ owns some of the coverage sacks, yes. But dudes at the end of the day gotta get open.

He makes a slow and mostly incorrect reads on the RPO. Takes forever to make a decision to throw to a receiver....many times locked on the #1. Now, coaches should know this.....where are the rest of the QBs? If they all are worse than dju in this offense.... man in the mirror time. jus sayin.

I mean, sure this is sort of a straw man argument on your part but I’ll still say we can’t place all of the blame on him.

A ton of this rests on the coaches. Shipley was getting like 4 yards a carry. We should have just ran him 25 times. Poor game planning.

He was above 6 ypc at one point, the 5+. So, that is a lot of first downs left on the table. On a windy, run night, they might should have tried that. Heck, they might have tried a true running QB that can read the plays.

Throwing a guy open on the break is not a strength as soon as teams realized Clemson can't just out run them anymore and the QB can't throw a guy open it was time to play single high and load the box and make every game a slug fest. That's partly on not recruiting pure speed, play designs not using enough rubs and mesh concepts, but mostly on not trusting the QB to throw a guy open on the break.

You make some valid points.
DJ should be a drop back QB and not running the RPO. Max protection and let him throw down the field. He doesn't throw the jump ball where the receiver has an advantage. I agree there is a talent problem at WR.

Yeah and when he does the guys can’t make plays.

Prime example of our receiver lack of physicality: Cade’s pick.

Ngata just let the other guy ###### it. When I played ball (I wasn’t any good) they taught us to fight for the ball at the high point and not to wait for the opponents to get it.

It wasn’t the best pass but a Mike Williams knocks that ball down.

Any of you folks that think that DJ is Ok and it's all one the wide recievers, or O line or play calling by the coaches are out of your mind...the coaches have tried to adjust the offense to help DJ and he still can't get it done...He can't even throw a simple WR screen without missing or throwing behind the WR's or Shipley...lets make another excuse for DJ and blame poor QB execution on everyone except where the problem lies...for two years we've had the poorest excuse for a QB in the ACC...No top ten team has ever had a QB that bad...blame everyone except where the fault lies...poor Cade has not had enough experience to pull a rabbit out of this hat even if he could...could be worse...we've only lost one but our trip to the playoff is now in ESPN's ballpark and they will not support us!

Coaching my 6 graders Ive told my QB to hit the receivers in the helmet and tell them that’s happening all day long. You can catch it or keep getting embarrassed. Ive also coached them that when we put the ball up, we catch it or or no one on earth catches it.

It’s all of the above.

DJ is not getting it done. Cade hasn’t showed that he is any better. The WR’s are too green or average and aren’t helping him. The OL and TE’s are just ok. Our punt coverage has been shaky and the blocked punt TD last week was a killer. Shipley has been solid, but we’ve been so spoiled with Etienne.

Our defense has been good, but the DL hasn’t dominated as expected. Venebles absence is clear in Simpson’s drop off in pressures and lack of blitz success overall. Neither corner is a standout and our safeties are good but a year away.

Big Toe Potter gets my MVP vote.

I have no feel for how the rest of the season goes. Guessing we win fugly against UL and Miami. Get by usc in a squeaker and it depends which team shows up against UNC.
