Passed a guy in the left lane (he was in the middle lane on 85) who had on the left side of his rear windshield a sticker:
"If I pass you on the right, you're an idiot."
I move that we petition the state government to post signs expressing that same sentiment (albeit a little more politely) at every mile marker on 85 between Spartanburg and the Georgia state line.
Something like "If someone passes you on the right, you are part of the problem. Be part of the solution -- move over."
I've never quite understood the mentality of the left-lane cruiser. Maybe they're just confused.

Pass a law that the left lane on interstates are to be used only for passing and if you are not passing a car and do not pull to the right for any vehicle approaching from behind, that vehicle can lawfully wreck you and can continue to travel .

If you pass a guy on the right who is doing 15 mph over the speed limit because you want to go 30 over the limit, do they write the other driver a ticket for not getting over or write you a ticket for speeding or put both of you in jail?

Yeah. Also, what about the self-entitled jerks who won't wait their turn in the left lane as cars are slowly passing traffic in the right lane. They zip over into the right lane. Of course they then get stuck. Then they cut back in on someone who has been patiently waiting for traffic in the left lane to pass. It's all about them.

Passing lane is the once creating this issue. If the passing lane would be used for its intended purpose of, you know, passing this wouldn’t happen. But hell cops don’t even have capacity to keep up with red light runners so I doubt this is high on their priority list right now

I hate when you're about to pass on either the right or the left......then they all of a sudden want to hit the gas so you can't pass. They were given plenty of time to drive like they got somewhere to be....but they act like they are in no hurry to go nowhere. Yet they are quick to not let their pride and ego get damaged though... just because you're about to pass them. Oh nooo we can't have that.

The law we have in South Carolina was 100% passed because Legislators who fly low back and forth to Columbia wanted to not have to slow down. Since the Interstates have barriers in the median and you never see a Highway Patrolman, I wonder if even 10 tickets have been written since the move over law was passed.

If you have ever driven the Autobahn in Germany, you know that it is exactly like our Interstate Hwy. System. The difference is, Germans have enough common sense to know how to drive on an Autobahn.

Spent a lot of time in Germany for work, the autobahn is also heavily policed, both by speed cameras (most sections no longer have open limits) and patrols, and fines are very steep. The patrols are generally looking for tailgating and other unsafe driving since the cameras get all the speeders. They also have a more robust drivers lisc process.
I hate speed cameras with a burning passion though, got an equivalent to $50 ticket in Switzerland for going less than 1 mile an hour over the limit, so infuriating

We lived in Switzerland for a few years and you can get a ticket for failing to pull into the right lane when someone is trying to pass.
Also, if your car breaks down in the highway, you get a ticket. They expect drivers to make sure that their autos are in tip top working condition while on the highway! 😄

Yep. Autobahn passing lane is exactly that. If you are seen camping there, you will get a ticket. Germans abide by passing lane etiquette without fail.
Autobahn lanes are wider than interstate lanes.
Lesser known autobahn law. If you breakdown on the Autobahn, you will get a ticket. By entering the autobahn you are certifying that your car is in good working order.
Totally correct about the unlimited speed being only in spots. If you ARE on a no speed limit section and you are in the passing lane doing 120mph (200kph) you are in the way. There are plenty of them doing 180mph.

I know there are MULTIPLE AREAS on I-95 (North and South) where the concrete/asphalt is cracked and it's like hitting a city pothole at 70 MPH. In fact, a few years ago my brother hit one in the right lane; almost wrecked; and ruined the tire and rim. However, I think that your point is well-taken. If you're not passing, move over.

My dream is to install rocket launchers behind my headlights. Skadoooosh! Problem solved. They believe they’re “entitled” to the left lane. Cops need to enforce the laws on the books. Far left judges and prosecutors refuse to prosecute. I drove from Spartanburg to Fayetteville Friday and blinded some squatters until they gave way. Half would move over seeing my pace. Half probably laughed until the pressure became too much.

I joined the Citizens Coalition for Rational Traffic Laws, which morphed into the National Motorists Assiciation. Basic goal was the eradication of the National Mandatory Speed Limit which at the time was a ludicrous 55 MPH. I still cuss Jimmy Carter and Ralph Nader.

Thats quite the fantasy world you live in. The truth is you have cars and trucks in front, behind and beside you. If something happens you may die. And to save gas? Speed up or slow down a little and get out of people way and let them get out of yours. It makes your life and others safer.

Recently drove through Kentucky and remember thinking how a simple change of the way the signs are worded was very simple and effective. Signs read “Keep Right Except to Pass.” That is less subjective than “Slower Traffic Keep Right.” Drive in the right lane unless you are passing…period.

I was also on 85 today between Greenville and Clemson, I know what you mean. The way I've learned to drive that road is just to use whatever lane is the clearest or is moving the fastest as the "left lane" and keep switching around as necessary. Ironically, a lot of times the right lane actually ends up being the fastest.

I’ve seen people shot for doing that kind of brake checking people. I’d never do anything like that myself as I carry to save a life. A gun isn’t a weapon to yield in anger.
There’s also studies that show vehicles driving well below average pace cause more wrecks than cars traveling well above average pace. I always read the flow. If the posted speed is 70 yet everyone’s running 85 then I follow the pack. It’s always the one going 65 in a 70 causing bottlenecks.

It's not "brake checking" to simply slow down. I can drive in right lane at the speed limit all day long. Again, don't drive on my bumper a hole. You can all drive 125 for all I care. But not in the right lane.

Omg the stupid A$$ people that refuse to get out of the left lane drive me crazy. Even on the interstate with multiple lanes idiots are cruising in the left lane. I see it often on 77 from Charlotte to Rock Hill. There are 4 lanes on each side and they’ll still be poking when they have 3 other lanes to the right of them to poke in. I have often thought I needed a bumper car to bump these jokers into the lane they should be in. Move out of the way 👍

Depends on if the guy doing the passing is driving like an ###. I do about 10 over max and if someone wants to pass me on the right going faster than that so be it.
Some real idiots out there driving these days. All the construction on 85 makes it even worse. Some folks need to learn to take some foot off of the accelerator, and like you mentioned if you are just maintaining the speed limit or even under then definitely move right. It’s not really that complicated.

Doesn't matter how fast you're going. If you're not passing someone, get out of the left lane. You are the problem. It's that simple.
Not your job to police how fast others are going.
However, it is your job to obey the law and get out of the left lane if you're not passing someone.

Amen, attitudes like that are the problem. You drive as far right as you can and move left only to pass other vehicles before returning to the right lane(s). Cruising in the passing lane is lazy and illegal. Move out of the lane and for the love of God use your blinker

Great topic! What about drivers that camp out in the center lane! They cause as many problems as those in the left passing lane. Especially when the center lane is the fast lane when trucks are prevented from getting in the left lane. People get in the center lane, put in the cruise control at the speed limit or slightly above. Truckers get pinned in with slow lane and middle lane traffic. If those drivers would move to the right lane, then the left lane would be freed up.

I've called the Upstate home for some time now, though.
In Texas, plenty of people (mostly transplants, I think) cruise the left lane.
And out in West Texas, SW Texas, South Texas, there's plenty a rancher or oil field worker with a cattleguard and a Cummins diesel that'll just as soon nudge you right off the road as put up with lolligagging in the left lane.
