Gene Autry
was the biggest celebrity the world had ever seen.
Entire towns turned out to see him.

He was rich enough to own the California Angels. He must have been huge.

If you didn't know Gene Autry was huge, you better read up on him!

He was huge from the 1940s to his death in 1998. Prior to his death, he was the ONLY person from any entertainment profession, to be on the Forbes list of the 500 wealthiest Americans!

He starred in over 90 movies, volunteered for the Army when WWII broke out and was an Army pilot! He invested his earnings from his music and movies in real estate, including several radio and TV stations.

When Major League Baseball decided to put a team in Anaheim, Autry inquired about getting the broadcasting rights to the team. MLB was so impressed with Autry, they offered ownership of the team to him, which he owned until his death in 1998.

Gene Autry was a great American in many ways!

He wasted a great opportunity by getting fat and abusing drugs. He should have followed Gene Autry's rules. Autry was a skilled guitar player; Elvis could strum a couple of chords and did not write his own music. He was just copying the black musicians that came before him, and made millions.
