I’m speaking within the last few years of Clemson teams that actually need substantial growth. Those earlier teams were so dominant so I can’t compare the two situations.

that was before we added more bum teams on the west coast like stanford and cal. We don't even play GT/NCST every year anymore...
Also before the SEC/BIG10 turned into super leagues and had an extra 15-20 million a year from TV money to spend on paying players. The PAC12/Big 12 are dead/vastly different now than when we were winning titles.

New rules for 2025. The NCAA has made a team's strength of schedule count more toward rankings.
1. Emphasis on quality wins against strong opponents will significantly boost a team's ranking.
2. Losses against quality teams won't count as much as losses against weaker teams.
3. Wins against lesser teams provide minimal reward; losses carry a heavy penalty.

SEC overrated? We are 3-8 against them lately. We have to get better quick. Beamer appears to be getting U of SC stronger every year. This downturn (not that TB was ever up) reminds me of the us vs Spurrier stretch.
Three straight opening game losses with an average of 6.7 points per game is ridiculous. Dabo can't spin this, and no DC can overcome this lack of offense.

the ACC has been a safe haven for Clemson football.
Clemson would not do as well overall if they were in the SEC. I think that reality scares a lot of people on this board.
I would rather be playing the best week in and week out, and getting paid for it.
The ACC offers an easy route to the playoffs for Clemson, and all the deniers know that.

Not necessarily. Yeah the SEC has more teams that are actually decent. But it's top heavy. Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Florida, Missouri and the Coots don't scare me year after year. I think Clemson would be fine. It would definitely bring excitement back to our regular seasons with more bigger games week in and week out, like with Texas, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M. UGA would be a routine rivalry again too! Did I mention the financial aspect as well? Better tv deal. Ticket sales through the roof. Revenue for the town would be great too since most SEC fanbases travel very well.

Idk where the heck we go. I’d like to go somewhere that we don’t get a championship game appearance but once every 3/5/10 years.
The big 12? I mean I don’t think they’re any better. Then we just go to the sec or big10 where we are middle of the road money wise and what does that get us?
I’d rather hope for the North Carolina teams to pull their weight and Miami/fsu to get back to their legitimate forms and we’re just fine.

I don't disagree, but even if the ACC released us at the end of the season where would we go? We don't simply join the SEC or Big10 we have to be invited and there are alot of metrics that say both of those leagues would actually prefer some of the lesser performing ACC schools for reasons that have nothing to do with the strength of our football program. Regionally we are best suited for the SEC, but with two SEC schools close to Clemson and one that would scream bloody murder to keep us out we don't offer much in terms of increased viewing market and those two things will probably be a deal breaker for them. The Big has one standard for their member schools and that is being an invited member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). That is a deal breaker for them that has nothing to do with football.
My take is that we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If the two most desirable conferences don't want us for their own reasons then what?

We will be invited along with a couple of other ACC teams.
Ask Texas A&M how screaming bloody murder about your rival coming into the league works. SC can't stop anything. They will be told to shut up or leave just like Texas A&M was told. Besides the coots would be smart to want our game with them to count as their 9th conference game now so they can schedule another non con gimme.

The TV executives determined that Clemson/FSU and other$ will leave the ACC in 2031.
