Bama's lost 22 to portal, SO FAR

Saw someone saying they'll replace what they lost. Sure, being Bama, THEY MIGHT, but they're not re-[lacing the 1 or 2 years that they've already in building/training these 22

Same with EVERY single team losing 20 or more.

building a "team system" will be tough and it will take tons of $$$ to make it work. Sure, you can keep a player for $400k this year, but that will be $1.4M soon enough and even schools like Michigan won't be able to pay up. It's a runaway train right now.

This current system is not sustainable. Changes will have to be made. I have some ideas but they are too simple and come from a “common sense “approach.
The current system will crash and burn. The teams/universities with the most “common sense “ approach will survive.

Go ahead and pile on.

It's called "Let the market decide".

If it's not sustainable, then market corrections will change it.

We are not talking about the prices of toothpaste.

Not sure we are talking about the same markets. Having the most alumni does not equate to the so called market you speak of. Not but a handful of teams controlling the market. Not many can shop and pay what they do. Does kind of take the “fair” out of market value.

It's OK, Blufftroll can only yak about the constant NIL drivel. Maybe an aspiring 'player agent' or something? 🤷

I think most of us knew it was unsustainable from the start.

We can also expect the programs/universities to set this system right, or as close to right as possible soon. I suspect that's what the talk of reorganization includes.

Clemson has fared better than almost all of them and probably better knowing that our players have dependable partners on the field and sidelines. They know one another and are weeks ahead in preparing for next season.

I expect Clemson to come off the blocks in full stride and substitute heavily in all our games in prep for the coming year(s).

Our glass is almost full, the tiny bit of distress over the portal is minimum. Dabo knows what he's doing.

They see the writing on the wall. Their coach won’t be there too long.

Exactly. Deboer like Venables have 1 more year and the nil and portal will be the cause of it.

Oklahoma was a surprise in the number of transfers. Thought BV would be doing a little better cultivating a culture he witnessed under Dabo.

Are signing approx 40 players per class. Contrast that to our smaller classes, and retention it's not that crazy

Bama has great tradition, but their main selling point the last decades been Saban. They certainly don't have pockets as deep as many of the other true bloods so they may regress as time goes by.

Hard to say how many left for more money/starting roles and how many were told to GTFO either by being told they weren't wanted or that they could stay but their NIL was being reduced or going away.

Bama has always done the SEC thing of overrecruiting and then dumping players who wouldn't contribute soon.

I think the portal and NIL have hit Bama pretty hard and they won't replace quality but only in quantity. Same as USuC.

Lossing a large number and replacing with the portal is like a roll of the dice. It could go well or terrible. Will these players mesh with themselves, the coaches and the players already there? Will the amount of money being paid become friction between players? Will these teams have sustainable depth? How long it will take before this model is not sustainable over time?
