Attention people not from Southern states

Given that I'm Texan, I don't claim "Southern." But I'm married to a Southerner, and have ancestors buried in North Carolina and Alabama, and so feel empowered to say:
For those retiring/fleeing here from places north of the Mason-Dixon line, or west of the Mississippi:
We're glad y'all have decided to make South Carolina your new home. We welcome your diverse perspectives, and tax base. We welcome your pizza and philly cheese steaks and overall blue collar work ethic. For the most part, anyway.
Therefore,
We will not call you carpetbaggers. That is rude. We will not call you Yankees. That is rude. We will not make fun of, or ask you to lower, your nasal, clipped, opinion-soaked, clangy, Jersey Shore voice that everyone in the restaurant can hear. That is rude. We won't openly wonder whether you're as opinionated and intellectually lazy as you accuse us of being. That, too, would be rude.
We only ask a few things in return: Don't call us rednecks or rubes. That is rude. Don't call us Southerners. That is not a word you fully understand. Avoid. Don't make fun of - OR TRY TO MIMIC - the dulcet and altogether poetic Southern accent. That is foolishness, and ignorant.
Also, it's Clempson. Not Climzin or Clemzon. It's "cut on the Clempson game." Not "turn on." They're "cacks," not "#####" or "Gamecocks." Keep it simple as far as those people are concerned.
"Sweet Tea." Not Tea. "Coldbeer."
Peanuts are not "BOYLED." They're "boled." In fact, don't even talk about peanuts, boled or otherwise. You don't get it. Never will.
"Bless," or, "Bless your heart," generally means the opposite. If you hear it said to you, rethink whatever you said or did to have it said to you.
Tor-till-ahs is a perfectly acceptable way of saying "tortillas," thank you.
And, finally, don't be so loud and proud about "being from (INSERT DIRTY ILL-GOVERNED OVERCROWDED CITY NAME)," in one breath, while claiming how gawd-awful it was, on the other. Pick one and stick with it.

but I'm finding that many who came here (at least in my neighborhood - where there are more than a few Buckeye flags during football season) were a tiny red dot in a huge blue map. However, they do bring with them the opinion that we're only Red because we're too dumb to understand Blue.
So in that, yeah, I'm 100% with you.

Bring the politics because it is not like the South as done things that greatly across history. Certainly conservatism is not the path to follow if a community wants to flourish and prosper, not to mention adapt, evolve and advance.
And who am I? A native Southerner... born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. Public school educated and attended Georgia Tech, graduated from Georgia and Masters from Clemson. My family comes from a long line of tobacco farmers in rural North Carolina for over 200 years. And my family line starts in Virginia around 1650s to 1660s.

Do what?
Is that why Florida and Texas is where big business wants to be.
Welfare states are definitely not what you want for people if you want prosperity, but we keep giving it out and just maybe less than 5% don’t end up on it for life. Let’s find work for folks and getting them paying into the system. Getting close to more takers than contributors.
GO TIGERS!

Really, Unions are like parasites that destroy and kill the host organism or organization.
Just look at Boeing; their Union made planes 737 Max have doors falling off in flight and other serious quality issues. That includes a couple fatal crashes in Asia and Africa. Their 787 Is made in Charleston, non-union and successful. Boeing knows!
All union auto makers in the US have gone bankrupt (except Ford). Steel companies, Eastern Airlines, etc…..
The Yankees can have their job killing unions. Stay up North with them… don’t come South! Go to California, already ruined by liberals!

Florida is doing really well, but like anywhere else it has its issues. Home insurance is a serious problem for many down here, a lot of fraudulent claims, I’m not a big fan of the unstoppable building and land clearing. But I’m a water bug so I’ll just keep it at that.

As I have often asked people that have opinions or views different than mine, please give me facts so I can be better educated on the subject and I may change my view or at least understand how they formed their view. So please, share a documented list of any blue state cities do more for GDP than southern states. Please don't respond with the woke, ignorant response to look it up myself because you don't have time, yadda, yadda. That is the usual response of someone that can't substantiate their statement with verifiable documentation or proof.

I was born in SC, have lived in SC, NC, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New York. My Pop was from Pa. My wife was born in Iowa and has family living in Iowa, Michigan, SD and Colorado. My brother lives in Arizona. One of my daughters lives in Baltimore.
I am an American. I claim the whole country from sea to shining sea as my home territory. I think we all have a lot in common. I travel a good bit all over the country and feel good about who we all are.
Regionalism from any one part of the US of A mostly sucks in my view.

IDK how many are going to SC, but the I-4 corridor here in Florida gets almost 1,000 new arrivals per day. The traffic on I-4 is almost always at a standstill now whenever you drive on it. It is almost unmanageable now.

Why all the rules? I'm guessing the Cherokee, Creek and Catawba didn't have a fraction of the requirements to live on their land before your dead illegal immigrant, OG carpetbagger ancestors destroyed their way of life, ran them off their land and claimed ownership.

What's the difference? The tribes where here before your ancestors and from all historical accounts where much more accommodating than you and your rules based requirements for "non-southerners". How about we consider being less divisive and stereotypical towards "other Americans"?

I don't celebrate or relish huge swaths of American expansionist history, and obviously, am not proud of the Confederacy.
To borrow from U.S. Grant, I believe the Southern cause to be one of worst causes men ever fought and died for.

I'm a South Carolinian as opposed to being just a non-descript Southerner.

Agree with most of the above, especially if you moved down here because of high taxes where you were, don't vote for them down here!

Texas was an independent nation, settled, fought and died for by Southerners. Later it became a Southern state.
American by birth, Southern by the grace of God.

Since you like yankees so much we wish we could send you every one coming to Tennessee that ruined their state and will do likewise down here.

Except one pasty-faced dude I worked with from WI complained about the GVL roads being of a poor quality compared to Milwaukee. I laughed and said, "Good to know there's at least one thing to miss about Milwaukee."
He didnt talk much to me after that.

I'm definitely not from a southern state, I've lived in Oregon most of my life. Before I retired I traveled a lot of this country both rural and urban areas (49 states, the one I missed was West Virginia) and one thing I can tell you is that their are wonderful people wherever you go. I remember a man in dirty coveralls in Louisiana who sent me to a great restaurant out in the swamps, a local in Las Vegas NM sent me to another great and very strange restaurant, similar experience in Bar Harbor ME as well as Los Angeles..
One NYC story, I was out walking Manhattan one evening after wrapping up my days work and I was walking by Carnegie Hall and this older gentleman asked me if I liked classical music, I said yes and he asked me if I'd like his seats for the rest of the evening as he was tired and going home. I said yes, he took me into Carnegie Hall to his seat (great seat by the way) and I enjoyed a wonderful performance by the Philadelphia Philharmonic... just wonderful.
Point is if you are respectful and nice to people they will take care of you. I had a man in Minnesota tell me the hotel I was booked into was full of hockey player, he said I wouldn't get any rest there and he called his wife and told her to fix up their son's room for me (he was away at college), also, she fixed a wonderful meal.
Point is get over the southern/northern/yankee/west coast stuff, it gets in the way of being great Americans.

Other than the p in Clemson, the OP was addressing that point. I think most "Southerners" will be tolerant of transplants if they are too.

Mostly true, Take It. Being from NJ, lived in the south for 20 years, now in AZ, I have enjoyed the regional nuances in each place. I do, however, have one favor to ask. Can some of you talk just a little faster ?

Stick to the interstates and crowded highways you're used to. Socks don't go with sandals. It's not Southern Fried Chicken, it's just chicken. No one wants to hear about how well something is done in NY from someone who left NY. Trying to drawl makes you sound like a foghorn leghorn impersonator. Fit in via actions not words. Don't leave a car you ran into the ground to come tell us how to make our car run better. You failed.
