Attacked by ground hornets... HELP

I was mowing some knee-high brush, started feeling a burning sensation on the back of my left leg... much to my surprise they had me surrounded and covered and were waiting patiently to sting me all at once in a coordinated effort.
I dropped everything and ran. I think the barbs are still in me, everything burns and is getting more and more swollen. My tender legs have been pillaged.
What should I do as a first-aid? Whiskey?!

Agreed. That's what I did the last time I go ht by them. Don't even need to light it. Fumes aline kill them instantly. Lighting it does give you an extra sense of gratification though.

That is not true I've tried that with a small leaf pile, and when I threw a match on it, the explosion knocked me to the ground, and tall grass will hold the gas fumes down low about the same as the leaf pile did, and it will explode once it's lit. I only poured close to a quart of gas on the leaf pile, and no one will have to tell me not to ever do that dumb chit again, but if you don't believe me, just try it!!!

Antihistamine, probably Benadryl and cool wet towels...Might be a good idea to visit one of the Urgent Care sites.

That made me laugh out loud. Don’t take any junk off of these guys. Srsly, get some Benadryl in your system and apply moist baking soda to the sting. If you’re feeling nauseated go to urgent care.

Yep, bees and fire ants use the very same attack plan, they will cover as much area possible, and the dreaded bugle blower will give the charge sound, and you will be getting bitten or stung by ever soldier they could get on before you realize what's about to happen, and you're in deep chit once the bugle player sounds his horn. I've been there and done that, and it's an awful lot of fiery pain!!! And I do feel bad for you!!!

After that, hire a couple of non-English speaking dudes to finish the mow.
I've actually heard tobacco on a sting is effective.

Adolph’s meat tenderizer and water, make a thick pastel and cover the area. This will help with the pain and stinging, works well for jellyfish stings as well.

Hornets don’t nest in the ground. More than likely they were yellow jackets. If you had been swarmed by hornets, I doubt you would be on Tnet.

Wet tobacco poultice, cover with tape or bandaid for each bite. Leave on for a few hours till pain is gone. If you are allergic or show any allergic symptoms like severe swelling or difficulty breathing, take Benadryl and get to a doctor or emergency clinic.

Back in the day my father would put chewing tobacco on the stings if we were attacked plowing a field......it worked. Nowadays people use benadryl.

Find the ground nest entrance and pour a cup of sevin powder over the the entrance during the day.
When they come back at dusk they will dig through it to get into the nest and take the sevin powder in with then.

I got in one of those nests a few years ago and just passed it off as a wasp sting and ignored it. Next day my leg was flaming red, swollen and hot as a pistol. Went to ER and they gave me shots of something. Dr. told me if I had not come in when I did, a few hours later I would have been in ICU....or worse. Been stung hundreds of times in my life and this is the only time it ever happened. Now, I put out Yellow Jacket Queen traps every spring and it kills the queens so we have no problems. Well worth the small investment.

I have often "dabbed" the bite area with ammonia....just to relieve the pain.
Also works with jellyfish stings.......and I am 74 years old!!!
PS: Ground hornets are probably what we call "yellow jackets" and I am not talking about fuzzy bees from Atlanta.
