Here's why the Heisman is a joke.....

To win it, you have to be a stellar player who is capable, and frequently, puts the team on his shoulders to win games. You have to be so important to the team that you become the team and their success relies on your success. Having any one player on any team seperate themselves and become so important means the TEAM is not balanced. Do you think for a second that FSU would have won the NC in 2013 without Jameis Winston? See where they are now? Same for Auburn with Cam Newton.
Lamar Jackson won it over DW4 because he meant more to Louisville than DW4 meant to Clemson. Sure DW4 was a great QB, and probably better than Lamar Jackson, but in their systems, for their teams, Lamar Jackson WAS Louisville's success. DW4 was NOT Clemson's. So now think about it, where is Louisville now? Where is Clemson now? How about FSU and Jameis Winston. Where is FSU now? FSU lost their QB and their seaosn went to pot. There is no "next man up" on a team and an offense or defense designed around one player.
My point is you can coach a program around a star player and ride him all the way to a NC. This is what Tommy Bowden tried to do with Spiller, James Davis, et. al. Jimbo did it with Winston. But to be a truly great team year in and year out, like Alabama for example, you keep your system and plug in the talent. Dabo and Nick Saban both get this. Very few talking heads do though. Alabama has no real super stars. Sure, they have heisman winners, but I promise you, they leave and Alabama reloads because they didn't change their team to elevate any one player to the extent that their loss destroys the team.
And all of this is summed up in the fact that DW4 threw a pass to a walk-on with 2 seconds left to win the national championship game. Not to Mike Williams, to Renfrow.
