Are fumbles really the problem?

I don't see how you can blame the fumbles as the single source of the problem and not the 97 other plays that were missed opportunities. You could easily say if it weren't for 24 dropped passes, we would be 8-0 right now. Don't all the issues come out of the same pot of stew?

Just a symptom.

They are not the only problem. However, they haven't helped.***

Another example, although this is from last season, when Dabo was talking about Notre Dame blocking one of our punts, he said we had a missed assignment on a 3-man shield. How do you miss an assignment on a 3-man shield when all they do is stand in one place and grab a body that comes their way?

ND blocked 7 punts last year

So maybe it had more to do with what they were doing than what we were doing.

Hard to overlook giving up a touchdown on a fumble and a fumble on the goal line.

True, but they aren't the ONLY problem. Any number of other plays could have resulted in similar point swings.

Everyone knows that, but turnovers are the game changing plays.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Poor execution as whole which includes fumbles, interceptions, dropped passes, poor reads and missed blocks.

Exactly, but that's not what Dabo said. He said we would be sitting here 8-0 if not for fumbles, but he left out we would be 8-0 if not for (x number of things that also didn't happen). I wish it were just the fumbles.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are A problem, along with poor line play, receivers who can;t catch a cold

Oct 31, 2023, 4:19 PM

; no complete RB (speed, power, ball protection) and defense being out of position in spite of never blitzing

Turnover margin is huge. It turns an above-average team like The Tigers

into a below-average team in a hurry.

Turnovers are 100% the problem (both fumbles and interceptions). If you eliminate most of those, it's a completely different season. And another thing about turnovers, they get in your head and cause other concentration problems. There are no teams with this many turnovers doing well.
Go Tigers!!! Beat ND!!!

Look at it this way. We’re giving up an average of 8.2 points per game because of turnovers. We lost 2 games in overtime so it took us giving them points to tie us then beat us. Another game was lost by 7 points and we actually spotted them with 14 points off of turnovers. Without those, at worst, we would be 7-1. Without giving up 15 points against Duke, the outcome might have been different. So yeah, fumbles/turnovers are the problem.

Sorry, I was off a little on the average points but, still, those turnovers are great momentum changers. Will definitely take the wind out of a team’s sails

Not just fumbles, turnovers. Last Saturday, one pick led to points. Next one was pick six. Lots of our turn overs took away scoring opportunities, but also led to opponents getting points. This isn’t a dig at our team, just looking at missed chances. Go Tigers!!!
