I thought the 1970 ‘s song Imagine was very good. Imagining unity and world peace is still much more than a dream. To see the athletes whose parents weren’t even born when Lennon first sang it singing along with it was quite moving.

To bring 250,000 visits to the opening since government locked it down and told people to enter city or Paris on regular trains or best way.
Seems damage was done in multiple ways..from disabling central computer to physical damage, maybe to tracks, etc.

Maybe it’s just me, but that felt like the longest opening ceremony ever. Kept dragging and dragging. Never thought they’d get to lighting the cauldron lol. I don’t remember a previous opening ceremony being that long.

The main thing that caused it to drag on and on was having the athletes brought in by boat. There were 85 boats total and the dock was small. Probably could only handle 5 boats max. A few boats would come in, dock, unload and then move out the way for the next wave of boats. That’s why there was more cultural entertainment stuff than usual because they needed something to eat up the time it took to dock and unload. But even after all that, the torch thing was way longer than it needed to be.

Imagine was the best part that I saw. Still can’t get behind Lebron carrying the flag. But then again our recent presidential candidates have been Biden, Trump, Hillary, and now Kamala Harris so we seem to have lost our ability to make decent choices.

Lebron has played at the highest level and been in the spotlight his entire life, and not had one bit of trouble.

And doing damage by giving opinions that hurt our police forces in a volatile time in US history and still are feeling today. He gaslit and stoked the fire of public opinion about defunding and denigrating the perception of our police officers that affected forces nationwide. He just wasn’t strong willed enough to say no to those political actors that were putting pressure on him to speak out. Where greats like MJ and Tiger Woods knew better. Lebron unfortunately branded and boxed himself in with that lapse of judgement. For him to be our representative is confusing. I thought he hated this place.

Errrrrrr.....I could do without Peyton Manning on the announce team. No connection whatsoever with Olympic competition. Now Snoop Dog, yes, at least he's good for laughs. And as for Biles skipping the opening, well she's just entitled and pissed about not being picked to carry the flag. Sorry, she forfeited that 4 years ago when she quit on her team. IMHO

So we hand it to Lebron after he turned his back and kneeled during the national anthem and his comments when Brittney Griner was arrested in Russia? Not saying I think Biles would have been a good choice either, but Lebron? He would have been the last guy eligible IMO. And yes, I know the athletes voted on him, but that just proves we don’t need to listen to athletes or celebrities regarding important issues.

you do realize one of the great cornerstones of America is freedom of speech and the right to demonstration correct? Sounds like you would much rather have a dictator and media censorship. Im not a fan of Lebron, but he has just as much right to his opinion as you.

I never said he didn’t have a right to his opinion. I just said I didn’t think he should be rewarded with carrying the flag at the Olympics. And you are correct, I am entitled to state my opinion too. You sound like the one trying to censor my comments.

Of creating a unique and powerful opening ceremony. NBC’s coverage was woeful. Short, choppy, fairly close-up scenes of the dozens of artistic performances made them feel disjointed, with no sense of where they were going or what they were doing. Snoop added no value and I would say a significant member of the Olympic broadcast team being there “for a laugh” is completely tone deaf. Kelly Clarkson provided less meaningful commentary than a casual fan watching the festivities. Peyton may be an odd choice but he at least seemed to try to contribute some insights and understood that the Olympics should be treated as special, at least by the broadcasters.
And maybe you’ll start training for hours every day for over a decade to perform on behalf of your country and win 4 Olympic gold metals and 23 world championship gold metals but then get mentally out of sorts at the wrong time about performances where over or under rotating could break your neck so that some guy on the Internet can call you a quitter and make up reasons that you aren’t at the opening ceremony.
Also, like you, imho.

You didn’t appreciate men who vote democrat dresssing as women and dancing with kids(cause of the pedo representation)after portraying the Last Supper as freak shows ? The fact that there is a whack job out there sick enough to come up with that crap doesn’t necessarily mean they have to put it on TV. Shocked they didn’t perform an abortion while passing the torch

The French seem to have lost the vision that once inspired all their beautiful cathedrals. I would not be totally shocked if Notre Dame gets hit by lightning again.
