If they go to the Big then it is alright. Big Ten fans don't travel. However, if they go to the SEC it will be totally inadequate. If they are a good team when Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee comes to their place it would insure a 100,000 seat stadium would be filled. They want big time football but small time stadium? Doesn't make sense. Maybe an FSU fan can tell us why they are goofing up.

To ensure they have competition for tickets instead of dealing with how Neyland Stadium looks a lot of the time when things aren’t going right!

3 years ago Tennessee average home attendance for Tennessee was 22,532.
A lot of empty seats even though they killed it last season.

Interesting article about the logic behind the renovations. Seems to me like it may be a bit short-sighted, but if the powers that be at Florida State think spending 200 million dollars to reduce the capacity of their stadium is the right move, who am I to question it? Go for it and good luck.

Make some high dollar seating and the monies would not be any different with the loss of the cheaper seats.

Speaking from a Darlington Raceway inside perspective. They sell out out the Labor Day Race but the Spring race is good but not the same. The money is generated from Streaming service. Welcome to 2024. FSU is not wrong.

Sports in general is in a downward spiral in my opinion, people will point to better numbers than ever more money than ever, which all comes from the big tv contracts. In my my opinion the entire deck of cards will shatter at the same time as everything else within 5 years.
but back to the present i think FSU is doing a smart thing, most nfl stadiums being built at around 65k. outside of a few school like Bama, Ohio state, michigan and texas A&M, most big stadium fan bases are quite fickle, LSU and TN had some terrible attendance in the last 5 years even against SEC opponents, these days the 100k stadiums are not justified by most that have them.

It will eventually happen at DV. I have been a season ticket buyer since 1982. When the “re-structure” the stadium seating and charge more for the seat license, then I’ll know that it’s time to give my seat to a younger, more affluent generation.

The point in that article that the same dynamics are no longer in play that you need to fill an enormous seating. It's about providing fan experience now that they can't get at home watching on TV. Same reason why Tennessee razed out a bunch of their bench seating in the upper deck to build a sports bar type area with tabletop seating.

I'm not at home now. I hate typing on my phone. I'll give an explanation this afternoon. Great question. Season ticket holders are asking the same question.

I'm gonna look up the info so it will be numverically accurate, then I'll give the "official explanation" of why the changes are being made. Then I'll give some of my personal comments. I'll post later today.

UF, my other team, is in the same boat. This is to improve the fan experience and offer more luxury seating options (which will produce more money). True sellouts are rare in todays environment....
Florida teams have alot to compete against in the state (many other entertainment options). They have to improve the fan experience at BHG stadium and Doak to stay competitive in that arena

That stadium was always a dump. An erector set with a lot of bricks built around it to disguise the ugly.

I used to go to Clemson games every year but now I never go because a couple decent tickets, hotel room, food, gas, etc makes it a very expensive experience. Especially when I can watch it on my 85" for practically free. I'd guess that's what alot of others are doing as well.

TennesseeVol you stated “Big Ten fans don't travel. “ - based on whut?
Also - as an aside - I’m an aging Gen X’er who grew up a Gator fan (and still am). And I have to say I’ve greatly enjoyed my four trips to Neyland dating back to 2000 to watch a Gators v Vols match up. Florida is 3-1 for those games.
Pregame hospitality has always been very nice. Post game I have had no issues but have witnessed many a Vols fan express their inner heathen hillbilly - somewhat on par with Gamecock parking lot etiquette.

Not sure how accurate your statement is about B1G fans not travelling. At our CFP games vs. Ohio State in Arizona, that stadium was 75% Buckeyes. I also imagine huge B1G schools that love football travel well, including Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, USC, etc.
