Anybody here shave with a safety razor?

Jun 29, 2013, 10:10 PM

I've heard they do a pretty good job, but I really need some first-hand advice before I commit.

life is not safe, either way.

I went back to an old safety razor for a while, but honestly

Jun 29, 2013, 10:53 PM

it did not shave as close or as smooth as the newer multi-blade razors, so I gave up and went back to the new technology. Apparently there are a lot of people who feel the old safety razors work better for them, however.

I use a multiblade razor but

I use a mug and shaving soap with it. Nothing like the nice warm lather you get from a badger bristle brush, Col Conk's almond shaving soap and hot water.

Yep - I use old fashioned shaving soap and cream with

a boar-hair or badger-hair brush. Sorta takes the misery and monotony out of shaving.

Funny you mention that

Jun 30, 2013, 12:39 AM

I used to borrow my dads way back. But I saw last week
that the triple and quad blades are really worse for
your face and skin.

When the 3rd and 4th blades pull the hair, the rest of
the hair shaft goes back below the skin level thus causing
ingrown hairs.

Only single or doubles from now on

They'll give you a close shave, but there's a learning curve.

Still, the move to see just how many blades one can put in a single "cartridge" has exceeded the ability to get a real shave. I had used a 2-blade system for years, missing the 3 and 4-blade eras, but finally delved into 5 blades when my "Sensor" handle gave up the ghost. I gave that up and found a place online to get new handles and have happily gone back to 2 blades.

(note: having a beard, I'm only trimming here and there, and just didn't get much satisfaction from 5 blades on the throat).

...I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent.

Dollar Shave Club

Jun 30, 2013, 2:19 PM

Do it.

Saves tons of money. I shave my head though every 2 days.

I joined this month. Started at $9/month, but may drop back

I can't do it. A Fusion blade lasts me, at least, a month.
