Anybody else concerned about our secondary?

Seems like the only thing that kept them from tearing us up was his inability to hit his targets, more so than our secondary breaking up the pass. If he had been more accurate - and his receivers known where the out of bounds was - we would have been in trouble.

just between the 1st and 2nd halves. Didn't see the same improvement there, but hopefully in the next two games they can get it figured out.

there within the team. It looked like the weakest link by far Saturday and a more accurate and experienced thrower could have picked us apart. I hope a couple of guys really step it up. Ball State's tempo should help everyone get some extra competitive reps this week.

I believe they will get better each week. Frazier had good time to throw completions, because we didn't bring much pressure besides our front 3 or 4.

get use to playing zone they have played man almost 100% of the time under Steele. The is if our recievers had dropped balls they normal catch it wouldn't have mattered if he hit his targets we would have still won. Based on what I saw he more than likely will have that problem all year he didn't seem like a polished passer.

I think they played well when they had too. They bent and bent but never broke and thats fine. Honestly we need a top 25 defense to be very good i think. Not even a top 10 one. I think we will give up a good amount of yardage this year, but not many points. Auburn ran 9 plays for -7 yards in the redzone. 1 play was a holding penalty

While I agree our secondary scares me very much, I think Venables after seeing the busted coverage played the safeties very far back and tried to cover up for this. I think this is why we got better in the redzone because the safeties didn't have to play so far back to cover for the cornerbacks. With the field compressed we got much better as we had less space to cover.

Funny you should say this because 3 Auburn fans sitting behind us said if their QB could throw and our players could catch it would be the same ballgame

No because we also had several "coverage" sacks/no gain plays.
Auburn is a pretty good team. We'll be ahhite.

Was feeling it during game as I watched us get lucky when their QB was inaccurate. Another accurate, strong armed passer tears us up. We've got a lot of work to do. Improvement must happen, and I'm sure will, if BV is who I read he is. Otherwise, we've got another Steele-like defense in the making. But Venables won't let this happen.

BV probably is, since he indicated that he "ran out of fingers and toes of things that need to be fixed" (not exact quote).
BV has improved our D, because AU brought a lot of different stuff at us, and our D held strong. We didn't stop everything, but we also knew KF couldn't hit the ocean from a boat, so I'm sure our D played accordingly. I'm NOT concerned after watching that performance by our D. I haven't felt this good about our D in a while.

Well, on two plays in the first half, one side of the D backfield was in man while the other was in zone coverage. In the second half, we had a few plays where the corners and safeties appeared to be playing two distinctly different types of zones. Fortunately, only two of these plays had plus yardage for AU. I can attribute part of this to first game communications breakdowns, which is very normal for any team, but if this continues against a good passing team, I would be concerned.

I am a little concerned from the stand point that we don't have proven talent as much as we have had in years past. We will be tested at down at the O'kee Dokee stadium. FSU has some fast tall receivers. I hope Manuel is at QB. He always throws a couple of picks.
Trusting Venables to get this worked out. There is comfort in knowing our receivers have helped these guys see speed and grow.
Go Tigers....Cover them like glue!
