This is what happens in a me first world. It’s not just athletes doing this but our leaders at all levels. Only one person can fix this.

your own ride home from the game if I were coach. You quit the game/team at halftime - I owe you nothing after that point.

Someday, a player will opt out at half, coach will say OH HECK NO!, player will then go out and tank possibly causing a loss. I believe it’s just a matter of time in this day of greed.

Yeh, I remember that’s how it always worked for me. Before every game, I’d tell the Coach what I would do and wouldn’t do. I’d let him know when I was gonna play and when I was gonna practice. Everyone understood that I was more important than anything the team was doing, so the the team was always there for me and I was there whenever I felt like it.

That was the sarcasm version of reality.
The actual version of reality in my day was one of two possibilities.
Possibility #1 - (The most likely) Player is immediately kicked off the team forever. Possibility #2 - Player is benched for the entire game and told that he must apologize to the entire team or he will be kicked off the forever.
True story - When my younger brothers were Seniors in HS, the football team went down to Gaffney, SC for the first game of the season. The team got smashed by Gaffney. After the game, the 2 biggest stars on the team quit, a RB & a WR. Halfway through the season, the team had not lost any more games and the 2 stars tried to return. Coach told them to get lost. That team went on to win the N.C 3A State Championship finishing 14-1. Team first. If that’s not the rule, it’s not a team.

I disagree with this playing one half.

However, try putting toothpaste back in a tube..can’t do it.
First, the WEAK coaches ain’t telling a star player to get lost if he not committed to playing entire game.
Second, threatening them about finding a way back home..they probably drove their (insert expensive vehicle) anyway.
Third, most teammates either agrees that it’s okay or won’t have an opinion due to solidarity.
GOING TO KEEP HAPPENING. Remember when we old guys were upset with the total game opt outs?
