My school is a joke. The administrators don't have a clue how to educate students

What an original thought... A student thinks the school administration are clueless as to how to educate them, ie., "I know more than the grown ups."
They may not be great, but I'm sure you will be ok...

That is ironic, the kid that says admin is a joke is also the kid posting and spending time on T-net, among other sites. You'll make a great poster on here one day.

Did you go to school there? Not sure how you would be so confident that his observation is incorrect. As someone who went to public school in South Carolina, it's certainly nothing to write home about. And it's not the educators fault.

I didn't go there, but I did attend public school in SC. I then taught in public school in SC so I am well aware of our poor standing in the US in education as well as the variance in level of education from one school to the next based on the availablility (or lack thereof) of resources. But I also know that if students apply themselves they will be just fine. The educators, while they are certainly hamstrung by the system, are trained and have something to offer students. It is no secret young people think they know more than adults. I have first hand knowledge of this.

children for them. This is a travesty and is unfair to the teachers and the schools. Too many parents are lazy, out of touch, not involved, or just don't care.
Thank you for being a teacher and trying to make a difference !

We actually have a class that we have to go to for an hour a day where they teach "character building". However no one participates and we just waste our time. I can't wait to go to the governor's school next year so I can get a real education

I was an alternate for Governor's school a long, long, long time ago. Sorry you are not seeing benefit in your present learning environment. I know there are some abismol schools out there. I'm glad you have the opportunity to go to governor's school. Make the most of it. But remember, there will probably be instructors there who you are more intelligent than. The overall environment will be vastly different, but you can always glean from people and situations regardless. I have taught a lot of kid who are much more intelligent than I am and thankfully I am confident that they were still able to learn from me. Best of wishes to you as you move forward.Get the most out of each day even while you are where you are.

"It is no secret young people think they know more than adults. I have first hand knowledge of this. "
It has nothing to do with education. It's true in the most general way. I can remember my first push into independence from "authority." First you question everything from everyone in every situation. Then you assign yourself to be the "smarter" one. That way you build confidence you are right. Until you cannot avoid admitting you are wrong, case by case.

She never said that about her other schools. However, she is not one that has to be watched over or kept in a strict routine as some kids have to be. It's working for us though.

Expeditionary learning, common core, standard models,... they all have common denominators: instructors who need to love and care for students as they seek to educate, students who need to humbly pursue excellence in their learning, and politics that seeks to push its agenda laden model of education while refusing to really listen to any objective critiques. Educarion is a tough racket no matter which side of it you find yourself on.

There's rarely been a teenager who didn't already know

more than adults.
Upon reaching their 20's they are surprised to see how much those adults have learned in a few short years. Once they reach their 40's, they then have to deal with teenagers who, of course, know more than them!
Tis a vicious cycle we live....lol
