Averaging almost 25 victories a season for the last three seasons is not average. If that’s your definition of average, you need to put down the Jim Beam bottle and shake yourself.

Basketball overachieved these last few years.

Now that we have that regular season thing figured out, lets focus on the postseason. I for one think we need to start seeing growth there, I think you'd agree.

As we’ve seen with the football team, increased success tends to bring higher expectations from fans. Our basketball team was a lot of fun to watch this season, right up until it wasn’t for a couple of games at the end. I hope the success we have had recently continues and we can continue to build on it. Every Tiger win is good.

I agree but this team was woefully unprepared for the Big Dance.

13 points in the first half is insane. The uninspired basketball we saw was 100% on the coach.

And only one of the 27 was from the ACC.

That was Duke. Makes you wonder why we haven’t been able to win the ACC during this 3 year run.

Because Brad can’t be expected to beat historical powerhouses like BC
Miami, Virginia Tech, FSU, and Georgia Tech.

And yet he beat Duke and UNC and Kentucky***

Yet they’ve all won ACC titles during his tenure or, in the case of BC, eliminated us in the first round of the tourney with our bestest ever team.

Were you evening reading the thread or just stalking me. Cobbox brags about a number of wins over consecutive seasons. FM points out it isn’t nearly as elite as Cobbox believes. FM then points out that it is only true of Clemson and Duke in the ACC and questions why we haven’t won it. I point out that Miami, GT, VT, and FSU have won titles during Brownell’s tenure. Miami won during the 3 year period Cobbox is bragging about. Miami is not Clemson or Duke. I hope that helps tie it all together for you. Mediocrity forever!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How did we do against Boise State, South Carolina, Memphis,

Average is not determined by simple wins, it is determined by measuring your team against teams in your target group. When you have a bunch of wins against cupcakes both in and out of conference - then it is not simply about wins. You review other teams and conferences and gauge where you would have placed in the nation - against big boy conferences.
Clemson would not have had near the wins had we played in the SEC (we lost to the last place team) or the BIG, or quite frankly any D1 league.
Based on that , plus our failure to win against McNeese, Boise, Memphis , - we are average.
We did belong in the dance, but obviously not a 5 seed.
If you want to measure against the mid majors, etc, we are probably above average (aka, there are 350ish teams), we ar higher than 175, but not in the top 40 due to results.

So, no, not above average in play. Not a bad team, but get over the bogus stats of beating up on horrible ACC teams and OOC cupcakes.

Based on the postseason collapse, our record needs to be look at a little deeper than the surface. Definitely padded by the worst ACC in history. Just a simple fact that can’t be denied.

Losing to McNeese in R64, however, is below-average.

So they kinda cancel one another out.

Throw an ACC title in somewhere and maybe "above average" works its way back into the algorithm.
