An abstract idea for 17 team, 9 game conf schedule issue for ACC

Can someone with the proper mathing and matching skills in schedule configurations let me know if I’m right or full of it?
Anyway, a 17 team conference playing 9 games in conference means an extra 9 games would be needed for the 17th team, right?
OR,
(After copying SEC’s 3 traditional + 6 rotating teams— who alternate each year— to play the all the other 15 in their case) That 17th team (maybe lowest record) in the ACC needs their 9 games, so they play 9 ACC teams (maybe teams 8-16 in previous year’s record OR teams 11-16 + 3 traditional teams, adjustable), whom now will have a 10th conference game. Those 9 will take 1) a random ACC result, 2) a win, or 3) a loss, and SWITCH that to a non conference result.
That was fun!
Any scheduling Jeanuses out there?

Way too much math for me.

(Just kidding. My career was teaching math.)
I just have a much simpler thought process.
I am assuming that everything being done now by B1G and SEC is bringing us closer and closer to a SuperLeague. So, I don't really worry about this will have any long term affect.
My solution is much simpler: SEC moving to 9 games means Clemson (and FSU) are closer to gettng out of the ACC and into the P2 SuperLeague. So, I don't really care how the ACC responds.

Pretty straight forward for ACC to move to 9 conference games. Each team plays 2 teams each year and rotates 7, playing every team at least twice every 4 years.
You're welcome ACC!

Thank you for the legitimate reply. I would prefer the 9 game schedule and two nonconference from the other Power conferences with an FCS school for the 12th.

It's not straightforward...you just did one team. You can't do that for all 17 teams, the math does not work.
To prove it simply - 17 teams, 9 games each, is 153 "results". One game is two results - one team wins, one team loses.
153 is an odd number...making it mathematically impossible for all 17 teams to play exactly 9 conference games.

It’s all academic but, just have the odd team out call Notre Dame an ACC game. Rotate that team every year, and hopefully by 2030 we are out. Then who cares.

The number of teams in the league times the number of league games has to be even, or it won't work.
Imagine a 1-game schedule with 17 teams. 17*1 is odd. It's impossible for every ACC team to play exactly 1 ACC opponent.
The same holds true for any odd number. 17*9 is odd - balanced schedule is not possible.

Why the heck do you want to play Cuse and BC the most as a 9th opponent? Yawn!

One team every year uses the ND game as their 9th ACC game. Problem solved.

So one team in the game is playing a conference game, but the other team (ND) is not. Seems ridiculous...

It wouldn't be anything as simple as you stated. It's not just that one team would be short 1 game. Half the league would be short 1 game, or have 1 game too many.
The best solution is adding an 18th team to the conference.

Cannot add a team because of money. The SEC may have gotten more money for another conference game but, the ACC will not.

Actually no that's not right either...with enough weeks I think you could get it down to 1 team needing an extra game.
My proposal then would be that the game is against an actual ACC member, so one ACC team plays 10 conference opponents but the 10th game doesn't count in the standings. Same as your ND suggestion, just not ND.
