Am I missing something?

We are comparing what we make in the ACC per team at 17 million. The Big 12 makes 20 million per team, but they only have 10 teams. If they had 12 teams like us they would be making 16 million dollars each.We actually make more than they do now if you compare apples to apples. What am I missing?

I think

They would generate more revenue with the extra games of Clemson and FSU (plus TV footprint and other crap), and that would increase their overall amount, so more per school.
Can't say for sure, but I think that's the idea

First, they still make 20 million per team. That is the bottom line. If they add two more teams the TV dollars would increase as well. Even with more teams they would still make more than the ACC.

You are assuming the total contract value would remain uncha nged with an increase in conference members. This is a false assumption.

OK, I follow what you are saying but everybody is just assuming now that the TV deal would go up 20 million per team added. How do you come up with that figure to keep it at 20 million per team? Who says that they will receive 20 million per team added?

In other words each team that they add would need to bring at least 20 million guarantee with them to keep the 20 million each in tact.

Reports have said that renegotiation ONLY takes place at 13+

Not sure how this has been missed, but there was a report that Big 12 only gets to renegotiate AFTER the 12th team and they go past that...if that is the case, your $16mm number is correct.

So TiggerBubba you hit the nail on the head as far as what I am understanding. They have to expand to a least 13 teams before they can even re negotiate a new contract. If I was the head of the Big12 I would have to know in order to invite any more teams into the fold, the minimum number I would be looking at would have to be 3 and I would also have to be sure the 3 teams could bring 20 million dollars each to pull their own weight. This where I am getting bogged down. I have negotiated many huge deals in my life an the bottom line was that the numbers always had to work. The people doing these deals are much smarter than I am and I guess they have figured it all out.

I agree in that I am not sure the new Big 12 contract will be much more than the previous one. They lose Texas A & M, Colorado, Nebraska and Missouri but pick up FSU and Clemson. FLorida is about the size of Colorada, Nebraska, and Missouri combined. Pretty much even.
So split by 2 more teams makes it about the same maybe a little more. The real potential would be the chances of getting a team into the 4 team playoff would be greater in the Big 12. Some estimate that would bring in 2 - 3 million per team and a big 12 championship game would bring in another million at least per team.
So less the increase travel costs you only net about 3-4 million or so increase a year.

a renegotiated contract would push them to the 25 million per team range.
