Yeah I was waffling on #5 too with Flagler,,I liked Flowers 4.2 speed carrying 215 lbs a little better..Nobody caught Flowers when he hit the juice,,Prob..The best speciman for a back ..2nd rounder blew out his knee in preseason for the Falcons.....Flagler was the more polished back though.

they were 2 different type of backs. Flagler was slashy and shifty. Flowers had top end burn.

Banks McFadden, Buck George?
Jan 26, 2013, 10:20 AM
|
|
I know Banks McFadden was before anyone on this board watched Clemson but he is one of the few to have his jersey retired he was such a great player. Also, Buck George set many Clemson records that stood for a long time and had a great career in the early 50s which is also a very long time ago.

and I vividly remember him hitting someone on a punt return (Maryland I think). When he hit the guy his helmet not only came off but the chinstrap, earpad and mouthpiece all flew in different directions.

from right down the road....Danny gave him the ball 14 times on a 15 play drive for a FG to beat UNC in 1987...One of Tracey's runs I remember was him dragging two FSU players into the endzone for a TD in 1988 to tie the game...I think that drive still holds the record for longest scoring drive 98 yards

When I went to CU, Ray Yauger was a heck of a back, but certainly not in the same category as the five previously mentioned. It was a different era. He was in the Buddy Gore genre. Great back, but a different time.

We had a guy named Lester Brown in the 70's.
Jan 26, 2013, 10:43 AM
|
|
Jim Phillips called him "The Rubber Duck" because he threw his body all over the place and feared nothing. I think you will find that when he finished, he had more touchdowns than anyone ever. Travis Zachary later broke that record.
I have posted before that I have seen them all since 1948 and none compared with Terry Allen as a pure running back. He went to the NFL after his junior year and had a great career with the Vikings and Redskins.
