A 6’ 5” receiver Dabo has been looking for. Can he make some of those jump ball catches like Tee Higgins, Martavis, Mike Williams……..

Seems like a good kid, and I wish him the best!!!

I like this take. A different build may lead to some new play call openings for Riley and another sizeable target for Cade like Briningstool has been (granted we do have Patt-Henry).

Although I do think our WR core is very bright next year injuries could always happen, he could be involved much more than we think due to some circumstances. Either way excited to see how this goes!

Due to the portal window no one has a set roster at the moment. The window is open until the 28th. For teams in the postseason (that includes bowl games), the portal stays open until 5 days after the completion of their last game.

Coach Swinney got aggressive and jumped all over a 6’5” productive receiver before the vultures had a chance to circle. Trust me once some of these other schools have more holes open up they would be coming after him. Heck they will probably come after him anyway.

Lastly, you bring in a guy that can add to this team without paying him the same as Wesco and Moore, and someone who can complement them. I’m not convinced AW is going pro either and he will be offered compensation greater than a day 2 or 3 pick to stay. This roster and this unit specifically got better with this pick up.

People act like the portal is a menu at a Chinese restaurant..."I'll have the #1 from the WR column, and the #3 from the OL column, and add in a #7 edge, thanks." and that just happens...

Remember that about half of all the kids in the portal have just thrown away their scholarships, because they will never get another offer to play anywhere--they're just not as good as they think they are.

So we just need to identify the players in the portal who:

* fill some gaps in our lineup

AND

* are not "problem children" on a path to drugs, DUI, arrests...
* are willing to fill those gaps, even if the gaps are 2nd and 3rd on the depth chart
* are willing to sign without any guarantee of playing time unless they earn it
* are willing to sign without up-front NIL guarantees
* want to be at Clemson instead of somewhere else (any of the above being more important)

Pretty sure Dabo would sign these kids in a heartbeat. Why wouldn't he?

And now that he's started moving in that direction, all you can do is complain about it because he didn't tamper and sign Travis Hunter out of the portal to a $10M NIL deal?

You nailed it, although I will say, I think most of these kids are signing for guaranteed money of some kind, it just isn't the type of money that makes headlines. If Clemson was offering $0 to sign we'd have zero commits. We have to offer something up front, it just isn't a bidding war. They probably have a set range for position groups, players of a certain caliber, etc. and then you can go up from there.

Building experienced depth at any position is contingency planning. Ideally, there will be no injuries during 2025 from among Wesco, Moore, Turner, or Brown, and that Tink doesn’t transfer. (This scenario is based on several various negative events happening such as Randall transferring and A.Williams entering NFL draft.)

Since the ideal scenario seldom plays out, and since we may not get another HS recruit (such as D.Murph) to sign, we need another guy who has demonstrated his ability to run routes and catch the ball. Doesn’t have to be a super star.

Glad this guy is coming to Tiger Town. Maybe we’ll even get one more portal WR to come aboard.

What a joke you are as a fan. I think Dabo and his staff have proven that they know how to pick kids that are of the right character to fit into Paw Journey and become true Clemson men. These kids in the portal with their hands out wanting to be paid NFF money do not fit in the Clemson Culture. If you don’t like what has happened in Clemson you need to go find some other program to gripe and complain about. Just my two cents worth. We use the portal and all you have to say is negative things about the kid we picked. He looks and sounds like a diamond to me.

Stellatos was a great receiver? Fast, quick and good hands. Did you know he was going to get hurt so easily? I wish him good luck.

The Swinneys all have done a great job as holders for a decade, and I can’t recall a single bad hold (even though it might have happened). I don’t think Dabo built the team around them, keeping someone else on the bench.

We won 2 National Championships with them on the roster, along with Hunter Renfro on the roster too. Congratulations on your perfect observations about the core problems with our program!

I’ll be pulling for the Tigers (and Swinneys) in Austin Saturday!!!

Bro, respectively, from one fan (and alumni) to another one, or both - none of the Swinneys or Stellato could ever match the talent, impact, or value of ANY of the WRs I’ve listed above, all of whom are available in the portable, with eligibility left on the table.

This isn’t an attack on the program, or the paw. I’m a thumper, trust me. That’s why I want the best for the team. Stellato was a dollar tree version of Renfrow. And the Swinney boys were the coach’s son, period. Did you just praise and defend ball-holding ability?! Lol. I’d have gladly rather seen ALL of the many Venables and Swinney free tuitions go toward 5-star NIL contracts.

Don’t create issues where none exist between us. But also don’t ignore the disparities in our depth chart and the differences in playmaking ability between Tristan Smith and Eric Singleton. Southeast Missouri State’s football program has been around for 122 years, made the playoffs 6 times, and lost 5 of them.

I think Clemson can do better, even if they have to get a kid a Zaxby’s contract.

Happy Holidays & Go Tigers!

CU Yankee. Clemson does not need you as a fan. Go back and pull for Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State., etc. Sometimes so called Clemson Fans do not fit the culture at Clemson and you sure do not seem to fit it. The Swinney’s were an asset to this football team. Always have been and always will be. They were raised by the man who built the culture that Clemson is so blessed to have.

These are the types of guys we can get all day long in the portal. Not going to cost a ton, since we aren’t going to go spend 7 figures on a flashy portal WR… best case scenario he’s a starter-level guy and works into the rotation with Wesco, Williams, Moore, and Brown. Worst case scenario he’s a third stringer… so he’d basically be Noble Johnson. It’s a win-win signing.

It’s a depth move with more upside than Noble Johnson.

Our new guy has proven accomplishments at the college level, even with that college level being at smaller schools.

Noble Johnson’s proven accomplishments were only at the HS level.

In this exchange, we got more than we lost.

Congratulations #1 on being #1.
I would bet he'll have 2 years eligibility. But even with one year, wherever you play, you not going to get noticed at wr unless you have a qb that can sling you the ball. I like it.

A kid like this comes in with something to prove. Wesco and Moore take him under their wing and coach him up. Looks fast.

Justyn Ross 6'4" 210 for comparison. 🤷‍♂️

Kentucky… oh nevermind.

I’m glad we used the portal, but it’s not just a dollar short and a dollar late (we’ve squandered years of not adapting) but can we try and get someone that is actually highly rated and is as close as you can get to a “sure thing” rather than a kid who will either be a hit or bust.

A cheap get and wasn’t even ranked in portal rankings. This is like the braves saying oh #### a guy who no one wants really and we can get him to make people think we doing something and keep them quiet. What’s it gonna hurt.

yeah good height but I mean a cheap get. Home run if we saw something others didn’t. But look at his offers. Like not saying we gonna get everyone but when Clemson beats out Arkansas state , la tech ….yeah I’d hope we beat them out. But why aren’t the teams we compete against calling…

His film looks impressive. You need 6 solid WR. Hated losing Staletto. Looks like this could be a comparable replacement that hopefully can stay healthier.

Looking at the boxscore for his last game, the QB threw 85 passes! No wonder the WRs put up some stats. His 10 receptions was only the 3rd most on the team (one guy with 11, another with 12)

If this kid can see the field and stay out of the tent, it will be a big plus for the receiving corps. over the 2 that are leaving. One of those guys had a Army Mash Truck with a Red Cross on it that he drove around campus in case he got injured sitting in class. If the new kid is available, then Dabo is already ahead of the game over what we had.

Absolutely the kind of portal help I've been hoping for. Quality depth without breaking the bank or running a starter off. Need more of these type players at every position.

Who didn't know that all this was predictable...
1st...Dabo resists using the port-o-let, t-netters revolt,
2nd...He does offer some portal players, but they go somewhere else, t-netters revolt,
3rd...He finally gets a transfer, we beat out FIU, LaTech, ArkSt, t-netters revolt,
4th...Kid doesn't pan out, t-netters revolt,
5th...Clemson has more current players transfer out, t-netters revolt,
6th..."Dabo doesn't know how to use the portal," t-netters revolt,
7th...go back to 1st and repeat...
It's hard to please all of the people all of the time...Merry Christmas!

The sad ones are the people who have spent the last few years defending Dabo for not using the portal, to the point of blasting the portal, players in the portal, and coaches who use the portal.

Now, all of a sudden, every player in the portal will not be accused of being disloyal and all about the money. Coaches who use the portal aren't just looking for cheap wins. Now, the portal will be about giving deserving players a chance and continuing to build our culture and team. LOL!

I need to adjust my previouspost where I paraphrased Dabo's "He's week to week" when referring to Tristen Smith's remaining eligibility, "He's year to year." Tristen may get his 2 JUCO college years back.
Looks like a judge has placed a temporary injunction on the NCAA counting "San" Diego Pavia JC years against the NCAA rule counting his 4 to play 5. Looks like this will allow him to play in 2025 (at Vandy or somewhere else).
It currently only applies to Pavia, but if the injunction becomes permanent, Juco players, including Smith may regain some playing years. Stay tuned, Dabo may have just stepped into it with Smith and landed a longer term player!
