Alabama's NIL is underfunded compared to many of their rivals, and Tuscaloosa isn't anything special compared to other college towns.

Tusc kinda sucks. Everyone talks about how great it is. Maybe it was just my expectations, but I was highly disappointed.
I think they are going to have a rough 2024. Really surprised they hired a guy that hadn't proven he could run an effective recruiting organization. Bold strategy, Cotton.

Just tells you where College Football is at the moment. Players care about the coach and the NIL, your school doesn't matter to them.
College Football will die a slow death.

That has been true for years. Kids come to Clemson to play for Dabo. The vast majority have no strong ties to the University itself.
How many kids, when they talk about why they signed with Clemson, mention Dabo as way high on their priorities? That is why it is so important to hire the right coach.
If Tommy Bowden were hired by SC and then brought Dabo to cootville to coach the WRs, and if the AD had appointed Dabo as interim, think how different it would be today. It isn't the school that attracts the players nearly as much as it is the coach.
The most important job an AD has, and the hardest job an AD is, is to hire the right coach.

Saban was good. Before Saban, not so good...for a long stretch. They fired several coaches and then paid the best coach in the country whatever it took to get him. I'm not sure they've duplicated him with this last hire. My guess is probably not.

things were in bad shape in Tuscaloosa when Saban got there. They are in much better shape right now, but it could go south over the next few years imo.
