offense is very generic and has no creativity. Whether this is by design, confidence in our WR's or OB, I don't know. Our routes are simple, our bubble screens are probably the worst I have seen, and I'm no coach but play calling was meh. Maybe I missed it but we were down by three scores and didn't seem to change our philosophy.
I hope to see more of Westco and Moore this Saturday and a few carries by the backups. I feel they are hungry and will provide a different tempo to our offense.
I still have hopes for a 10 plus win season and an ACC Championship. Miami looked good Saturday and may be the cream of the ACC this year. Louisville won big but not sure about their competition.
Let's take care of business and Go Tigers!!

Honestly, if we don't win 10 games, then we have more problems than I think. And we should blow out everyone. Jury is still out on Louisville as you said.

No, our problem won't disappear, but a team like UGA that can expose the problems with really good teams won't be on our schedule the rest of the way...

We won’t win 10 running sweeps with Mahfa only .. open up the passing game, vertically .. we should be running jet sweeps/fake sweeps with faster WR’s .. this will open the middle for Mahfa … we have the talent, just need better schemes and coaching ..

Oh, I don't disagree at all. I agree with everything you said. My point is, apparently our schedule is going to be easier than we could have imagined pre season.
We have 8 layups. Pitt, va tech, and Louisville. We won't know for a few weeks about them.

I saw enough against the Dawgs to say that this Clemson team can be put on the mat by any of the remaining teams on this year’s schedule.

I miss the jet sweep. Seems like that made the defense stay honest. When we motion a dangerous runner (Rodgers, ETN, etc) in one direction the defense couldn’t cheat on the WR screen back to the other direction. I saw lots of teams running that this weekend and I don’t remember us running that formation and motion much at all recently.
I’m not a coach and don’t know how to fix this so I agree with Pig®, I just want to see improvement and a win Saturday.

Jet sweep worked very well during the DW and TL days. Why did we abandon. It is the lack of confidence in the threat of the QB fake handoff or the lack of confidence in WR blocking?? Not sure, but always thought that opened things up.

Yeah that was Aaron Murray’s breakdown. The receivers weren’t even running routes. That is 100% coaching. Grisham has to go and if this offense doesn’t improve vastly in the next 11 games, Riley has to go as well. I’d fire Spiller too. This offense is atrocious so far.

As I've said already Judge, Dabo had an idea/dream of growing his own coaching tree with X Clemson players, and that idea/dream has failed. You can't make a good tasting orange juice with lemons, you will get exposed!!!

during championship runs, but I'm convinced we're not far off and we still have more talent than everybody in the ACC except possibly Miami and Notre Dame, and maybe FSU (but look where they are). While we don't have a DW, TL, Tee Higgins, ETN, Sammy Watkins, etc., we still have considerably more than most. Talent is not our problem; it's developing and getting the most out of that talent, and putting them in position to be successful that's the problem. It kills me when I see teams like GT and BC and Louisville move the ball with confidence and efficieny. And yes, I realize we just played probably the most talented team in the country, but even taking that into account, we still underperformed miserably, while many lesser talented teams played with fire and confidence and executed when they had to.
Here's to hoping we get this figured out, and hoping we win out!

Totally. We don't have the overall team speed we used to. In addition to what you said, we can't seem to get the guys executing together. We have whiffs at all our positions on offense. Love brinny, but he just can't, or don't know how. At least 2 plays that potentially big gains, our oline blocked each other? Another mafah run and the rt bit on the uga DL head fake.. did we not watch film?
Cades qb run at the goal line was a lay-up for a TD but we had veteran oline with rookie whiffs and reads. It had nothing to do with uga being good on those plays.
I guess that's why Dabo said we could learn a lot from this tape. But the bad thing is, it's been an ongoing problem for 4 years now? Is it coaching? I think it is because we're not prepared. It's mind blowing the simple mistakes we've had... mistakes that have been there during our entire time with Dabo. But we had insane talent to mask it. We don't have the insane level now.

Root of the problem must we lack in confidence of our QB's. The vision and freedom of decision making on the field that DW and TL had was very obvious. With DJU and CK, appears that coaches are handcuffing (may be for good reason - not sure what they see in practice) where real time decision making during play isn't going well. At any rate - at a minimum, appears that our coaching staff is grooming a "game manager" instead of the "game changer" with the mindset of don't lose the game. Maybe this will work in the ACC this year, but certainly won't win Nattys.

You could put DJU under Nick Saban's coaching staff and it wouldn't make a difference (other than he would be on the bench) so I don't buy into that argument. You have to play with the cards you are dealt and it's clear that we were spoiled rotten by knocking it out of the park with DW and TL.

be difficult to separate bad playcalling from bad QB play. Cade is being given numerous options on most of his dropbacks so just because he ends dumping the ball off to Mafah in the flat on 3rd and 10 doesn't mean that was the play call.

If UGA didn't break our players trust and confidence, there is plenty enough talent on our team to run the table with our schedule, and IMO VT will be our next toughest test at Lane Stadium simply bc it's tough to win there...

I think the offense problem is that is it the exact same offense we were running when Lawrence was here. Let's not forget that the offensive slide started to happen while Trevor was still here. In his last season were were notably slipping a bit. The next year it turned into a mudslide.
I think it will be hard to find any fan that thinks were should just keep doing the same thing. I am in the camp that says talent is not really the problem. The problem is that any team can go back to 2019 or 2020 and watch our offense in game films and apply that to the game next week against App State and it will be just as valid as using the Georgia game tape from last week.
So if you were a coach and you had 4-5 years worth of film that would totally define what your opponent will do on offense you might find it hard to lose unless you seriously lack talent to play the game.

We will continue to do the very same thing with our WR's and our RB's. If we want something different Dabo will have to hire some experienced coaching for those positions. If not, we will see the very same thing just on different days...

We always start the year with a generic game plan, then expand on it. I think they thought that the D would keep the game close and if not, we'll see them in the playoffs. A disappointing effort all around. We have the D, unless we can't score points.
It starts at the QB. He just doesn't have that "wow" or "it" factor against great opponents. At this stage in the game, the best we can hope is a game manager with little to no turnovers.
The play calling seems to be focused on Cade being that... limit turnovers. Maybe we can expand on it through the course of the season with some cupcake defenses.
I expect to see a minimally improved Cade this year. Maybe that will be enough. I expect a lot of close games.

The younger wideouts must not be ready or healthy. The only logical explanation for the play calling is that it's all the offense as a whole can handle.
The ACC is bottom tier in football. It's gotten worse every year going back five years, maybe longer. It lacks the strong competition needed to help Clemson make any real strides at improvement.
Whoever wins the conference will likely meet the same fate that Florida State faced last year post season.
All that being said, I'm with you. I hope we win the conference. And I still love this team.
