are not the same at 7-1? If SMU lost to Virginia(who Clemson beat) it would be the same as Clemson losing to Louisville (that SMU beat). Wouldn't getting in the ACCCG just come down to strength of ACC record. Wasn't Clemson ahead of this before Louisville loss? Why would SMU have to lose twice?

Because the next tiebreaker is W/L against stronger ACC opponent. Louisville is ahead of UVA in the ACC, so SMU's win over Louisville gives them nod over Clemson's win over Virginia.
