“And not have a bunch of miserable people out there if we don’t go 15-0. It’s a miserable life if that’s what you’re waiting in every single year to determine your happiness.”
Personally, I love Clemson deeply and it runs through my family, as well as tons of others. What is the word to describe what Dabo quoted?
Of course happiness in someone’s life will not be determined by your college football team’s success, but I think everyone knows that and is just hopeful for national championships while Dabo is around and in the future with what our standard is.
By saying these things, it makes it feel like “Best is the standard” isn’t so real. I mean, it would give some more confidence in displaying that he is confident we will be back at the top, confident to prove the world wrong, etc.
He obviously believes that, so why not just be aware that fans want the best, and try to raise back up to the bar that you yourself set and know it’s still there. It’s not encouraging to say that, not just for fans but as a message to recruits and the country that will be taken the wrong way.
I don’t know what Dabo truly thinks, I’m just trying to judge whether or not what he said is positive.

Whatever, call it what you want.
What’s wrong with the motive to win the National Championship every year? No one thinks that’s possible obviously, but perfection is what is strived for. And that’s accurate.

No one realistically expects to go undefeated and play for a national championship every year, but people are going to get upset and vent, me included, if we're struggling with and/or losing to inferior teams, and we saw a lot of that the last two years.

The saying, "best is the standard" doesn't mean 15-0 every year.

It's not equivalent to perfection. It means giving your best and striving to be the best as the target. It doesn't mean 14-1 isn't the best. It doesn't even mean 11-3 isn't the best. It may very be the best we could be. It doesn't mean, "perfection is the standard".
Nothing wrong with hoping for 15-0 national championships every year. The problem in when you have a segment of fans who are literally "miserable" and want to fire half the staff every season we don't go 15-0.
Nobody other than Clemson went to 6 playoffs in a row. It definitely "spoiled" some folks.
Heck, we have fans who were miserable and wanted to fire people after finishing as the runner up to LSU, perhaps the best team in history. That's the kind of people Dabo is referring to. Sometimes we're going to go 10-3.. that's just reality.
Clemson is the 2nd best program of the CFP era. Does that mean we haven't reached, "best is the standard"? No, we have been our best.

Best is the standard doesn’t mean winning championships. Best is the standard means every one is giving all they got. You can give it your best and still lose. The part of the fan base he is talking is the ones like yourself that is holding onto that slogan thinking we should win every game because best is the standard.

Wanting a NC vs expecting a NC is the difference I think. Possibility vs probability? I always would love for Clemson to win it all but I know it’s not going to happen for a myriad of reasons. They don’t play up to potential. They are just beaten by a better team. I’ll be right there cheering regardless. What it takes to win a NC makes it so special.

He did not say that best in the nation is standard but was talking about best effort! I certainly agree that winning all the time is too difficult to be standard! I saw many big money donors that day who did not look very happy because of being told something that was true enough but witnessed events that appeared to contradict the `standatd`! Whatever happened with DJ should not happen again at CCC,while being a good kid his QB play was the contradiction because his best was not up to the Clemson standard and he made us doubt everything from the WR`s to the OL to the TE`s to the coaches and that doubt touches everyone! Dabo has also made us a smarter fan base!

The inconsistent play of DJ was part of our problem, but he was far from being THE problem. People kept acting as if all we had to do was replace DJ and we'd be unstoppable. I remember a post from someone on here after the ACC Championship game saying if we had gotten into the CFP that we'd blow Georgia out with CK starting. I certainly agree that we looked better with CK playing, but people tend to overreact is my overall point.

to see competence in our football program. Losing competently to other elite teams is ok with me.
What is NOT ok is what we saw the last two years. QB1 that can only throw to the sideline. Poor OL blocking. Very predictable playbook (also due to QB1 IMO). Defense that underperforms in general, gets embarrassed badly at ND, nearly loses at home to SYR, and gives up explosive plays to WF and Usuck.

....to the fans who may have lost it. Since we can't read his mind it leads to speculation about what he really meant. I take what he said at face value.
The transfer portal and NIL have changed the rules of the game, and Dabo is aware that he no longer has 💯% control over whether Clemson is in the National Championship hunt.
It's like acknowledging that your car isn't going to be the fastest on the track, but you're still going to be competitive because your driver is more skilled.
In my opinion if the NIL and transfer portal aren't eventually reigned in they will eventually run Dabo out of the sport. I think he's expecting some major revisions will eventually happen. Until then, slogans like "The Best Is Yet To Come" are on hold.

So you don't think kids and their parents are being swayed at all by a paycheck? And that each school is offering the same amount of money to each player, and that each school has the same amount of money to spend?
It's ludicrous for anyone to talk about the direction that Clemson has gone these past two years without the mention of NIL and the portal, and specifically the disadvantage Clemson has in "the best team money can buy era", given its smaller alumni base, student enrollment, geographic marketability and media limitations.

The NIL and portal have had obvious impact. USC is now back in the national mix due to Williams transferring there. TCU went to a national championship because of transfer help. NIL has led to teams paying and getting better players more than Clemson gets.
That said, I agree neither NIL nor the portal will significantly impact the entirety of CFB. The impact of those 2 will flatten as time goes on and it won’t matter as much.

As usual, Dabo told the truth.
If your life is controlled by the outcome of football game, you are the one with the problem.
I think that we all look to Clemson sports to add joy to our life. I’m sure that I do but there are many things more important than Clemson beating the TarHeels on Saturday. It is very gratifying to me to know the Tiger athletes are well Prepared for their challenges.
Clemson is a special place with a special opportunity to help the young students become successful. They do a great job.
If you know this to be true then Support the Tigers in every way.

Dabo earns his pay as few before him have done...NIL and the transfer portal have leveled the playing field by allowing cheaters and those who would not fulfill a commitment to prosper...`I'm not really here for an education and not good enough to start here so show me the money and I'll leave` has become the NCAA motto...those who would break any rules for a $ can now do so with a blessing and a real football program that trains student athletes will just have to work a little smarter...We were sold a bill of goods by the national ratings services... Oregon State will learn...DJ was never going to make it!

I think Dabo and Wooden have a lot in common....
“Perfection is what you are striving for, but perfection is an impossibility. However, striving for perfection is not an impossibility. Do the best you can under the conditions that exist. That is what counts.”
― John Wooden
We are not privy to all the "conditions" within the football program and thus draw conclusions from incomplete information. I will confess that watching Clemson football - with my admittedly high expectations - the last two years was difficult. But I certainly watched, cheered, and was happy with the end results most days (at least 11 of them this past year).

there is not a Clemson fan on this planet that is a "miserable person" solely because we don't go 15-0/win a national title. Dabo comparing "REAL LIFE HAPPINESS" to "Happy w/ a hobby" (in this case following Clemson football) is ridiculous.
He's just deflecting attention away from losing 6 games in the last 2 years and an inexcusable 0-3 vs OOC P5 opponents this year.
It's not about winning the national championship every year. It's about doing what we're SUPPOSED to do..............and vs the pathetic ACC, vs a 5 loss South carolina team, vs a 4-loss ND team we fell WELL short of doing what we are SUPPOSED to do.

I could be wrong, but I feel as if Dabo feels disrespected by some of our fans. He took over a program that hadn't won a NC for nearly 30 years, hadn't won the ACC for nearly 20 years, and hadn't even won 10 games in a single season for nearly 20 years.
He's turned that around into playing in 4 NC games, winning 2 NC's, making the CFP 6 times, winning the ACC 8 times, and winning 10 or more games in a season for 12 straight seasons. I get the feeling that he feels as if he's earned the benefit of the doubt and that he shouldn't have to be questioned for a 10-3 season that sees us win the ACC. I don't think he feels that he should never be questioned again no matter what, just that he is taken back by how quickly some of the fans are pointing fingers at him.

Dabo's done the "right thing" and/or makes the "right decision" 95% of the time when running his program.
POST 2021 season he did NOT make the right decision when he unjustifiably promoted Streeter after TE left.............not when you had incredible OUTSIDE offensive minds within reach...........Longo, Riley, and Briles.
He still needs to make some tweaks within the program.........time will tell if he makes them, but firing Streeter and hiring Riley (albeit a year late) was a MASSIVE STEP in the right direction.

Although I agree Riley was a good hire, I disagree that the woes suffered these past 2 years are the fault of Brandon Streeter. Streeter was not fired due to failure at his position. Streeter was let go for Dabo to Hire Riley and try a different approach. I have no doubt if Coach Streeter was leading the offense this season that we would have seen even more improvement. We will never know now how much or to what impact, but we can hope that the new coordinator has success with this offense and that it has an impact on the season. Like most I believe he will, but that doesn't mean that I believe this offense would have been a failure with Coach Streeter either and neither did Dabo. People comparing this change to the Steele/Venables situation definitely are not paying attention to details and results!

Problem with a lot of the people in here is that they haven't ever suffered through the years with teams and coaches that NEVER even won their division, the league or suffered through a losing season.
We won the ACC this year and every other team is envious.
