City of Clemson passes mask mandate
The City of Clemson is trying to curtail the spread of COVID-19 as best as they can with new measures. City of Clemson council members voted unanimously on Friday to approve an emergency mask ordinance that will require anyone two and older to wear a face-covering for anyone entering essential locat Read Update » |

That’s what I’m wondering. My family and I were going into Clemson this weekend to take my daughter to lunch. Does it apply to all businesses/restaurants in the city also, or just government buildings, schools, daycares, and grocery stores? If that’s the case, that’s even more conflicting information. People will say, “Why are you mandating it in these places, but not other places?” And, “Mask mandates will do more harm than good to already hurting small businesses.”
My entire family has been vaccinated. We’ve done what they said would “flatten the curve” and “get us back to normal”. Yet, here we are, going back to masks, schools going virtual, and high school events being cancelled. Over a year later. Covid is not going anywhere. Unfortunately, it’s here to stay and our society needs to learn to have common sense about it. We can’t just keep bringing everything to a screeching halt and masking up every time the positivity rate gets close to 1% in Pickens County.

What is so hard about wearing a mask inside? They aren’t shutting down businesses or telling you that you can’t go anywhere .

Would you really be okay with going to a “mask level” type society, where we check our news each morning to see what the Covid cases are for the day? Mask on/Mask off? This can have a major effect on our mental health and how we interact with others, not to mention our kids.
It’s one thing to wear masks for a certain amount of time, like last year when everything was so new and a lot of unknowns. It’s getting ridiculous now.

Sorry folks, no vaccine and no mask for me. I prefer to go through life under my own power. Not a big fan of govt control. The "masks" that most folks use are not stopping any virus spread. This control measure is stupidity.

I thought the Governor stopped this type of communist power. Mask don’t work for a virus. Look at real data and research. If you think they do work and the vaccine is good, then wear your mask and get the vaccine and you should be fine. That’s your decision, I can make my own informed decision. I don’t need political figures to be my daddy. If you’re really worried stay home.

wearing masks reduces the number of children and adults from getting the virus. It is hard for me to understand why many adults seem to think it won't happen to them. Doctors are hearing patients filling the southern hospitals and the patients constant message to these doctors is that they assumed they could beat the virus.

That’s fake news. From the NIH: N95 masks filter 95% of all particulates 300 microns and larger. The novel corona virus is as small as 3 microns and rides in droplets as small as 12 microns. Cloth mask holes are measured in nanometers. That’s 1000 times larger. Cloth masks stop the spread of nothing. Period. Do yourself a favor. Type Google scholar in your search engine. Then, type efficacy of N95 mask vs particulates smaller than 300 microns. You will find thousands of peer reviewed medical journals that state N95 masks have zero efficacy against particulates smaller than 300 microns. In the virus world, that is like using a strainer to catch running water. Not to mention this is not a true pandemic. The death rate is below 1%. Not to mention most of the deaths from 2020 were people who died with Covid. Not from Covid. If this were a truly deadly virus, it would be 100% martial law. With cdc goons at every entrance decontaminating people and collecting used respirators in MOP gear in biohazard bags. How many decon stations have you seen. I understand stand this because I am in the medical field as a practitioner. You’re being lied to and following like sheeple.

The fact that he has his measurements backwards and you are attacking him about politics shows you are following the crowd. The virus is measured in nanometers which are 1000 times SMALLER than a micron / micrometer which would be how the holes in a cloth mask would be measured.
If you had an original thought, you would call him out for the accuracy of the argument. Other than having his prefixes backwards his argument is basically this is not an original thought but supported by others. I would tend to disagree with him on the N95 mask, but the cloth and paper mask that most people wear are much, much less effective. Do they do some good? Yes, in my opinion, but it is like trying to empty a bath tub with a shot glass.
My thoughts whether original or not, is that mandating masks to avoid the corona virus is like mandating walking for safer travel. Is the return really worth it? Masks coupled with the distancing that you mentioned does do some good. The masks will minimize the projection of the virus and droplet away from an infected person. The distancing allows it to fall before being inhaled by someone else. Because of the size the fall is actually affected by air particles so it has a rate of fall much less than a normal larger object. As a side note, I wonder if tall people have a lower infection rate than short people.
Anyhow, how much of the spread is due to respiratory droplets vs common touch surfaces? Infection rated do not seem to match the use of masks, which it should if they were really effective. Hand sanitizer would probably be at least as effective as mask, but I don't see that being mandated. Could that be because the mask makes a much better virtue signal?
To summarize my remark that is all over the place, don't call out someone for not having an original thought that was not meant to be an original thought by having a totally unoriginal thought instead of questioning the accuracy of the original thought.

Yep. Masks and social distancing work every time tried. I mean look at the constant stream of comparisons between counties, states, and countries. Some instituted mandates. Some didn't. Some at different times. I'm getting so tired of having to look at all those graphs clearly indicating efficacy. They constantly harp on it...
Ooops! That's not happening. Wonder why? The only evidence they offer is the out of hand notion that masking and distancing actually work. But we now have 18 months of data, and still not a peep out of them. No constant barrage of charts showing the difference. No apologies offered to the people lifting restrictions once called killers.
If I met you on the street, I'd offer $1000 to your favorite charity if you could pass the quiz at https://www.covidchartsquiz.com/COVID Charts Quiz Test your knowledge of how government interventions affected the COVID-19 pandemic. . If I offered it to you here, I feel quite certain you'd cheat.

Internal Medicine physician here. I support this view.
I’d also add- don’t take every opinion spouted by a medical specialist if said specialist collects money from the government in ANY manor- paycheck, grants, etc. That opinion can be clouded by political pressure.
Also, don’t trust your internet search or fact check site. That has also likely been “scrubbed” to present a one-sided view.
Masks DON’T work. There is undeniable data to support this view. Vaccines ARE helpful. The virus is becoming much less deadly. The data are clear on all of this.

It's ridiculous to say that masks don't help in some way.
They disperse your breathing, sneezing, and coughing. They slow down the air entering your nose and mouth. Are they perfect? Of course not. Are the N95 masks perfect? Of course not. Is there a correlation in mask wearing and reduction of virus spread? Tell me there isn't and I'll question whether your MD is worth anything.

in the industry since the late '90s. He's right. Masks provide source control and respirators provide respiratory protection.
Several variables in providing respiratory protection, but a properly fitted/sized mask and correct filter media for the hazard provides 100% protection. Poorly fitting mask or incorrect filter media will not provide respiratory protection.
You are correct that masks will help disperse aerosols when sneezing and coughing (source control).

You are assuming the transmission of the virus is through large particle transmission. I highly doubt that theory. I have too many patients that have gotten the virus wearing masks and avoiding crowds, keeping distance as possible. I have had several that have gotten the virus isolating themselves at home with NO contacts for months- except for groceries left at the door.
The recurring theme from patients is that they usually don't know how they got the virus (unless from close family contact/significant other), and do not remember anyone coughing or sneezing near them.

Actually Masks DO WORK (to REDUCE not ELIMINATE risk), Vaccines ARE critical to stopping the pandemic because every reservoir is a chance for random mutation (that would be a change in DNA nucleotide sequence that you may have heard of at some point in your education) to lead to a break through - its only a matter of time and the virus is becoming MORE dangerous (not less) across the board but especially in younger and younger populations. Says who? The CDC may be advocating it, but their medical journals and studies belie that claim.
Masks as used by the general public have virtually no impact on COVID, the flu, or similar respiratory viruses. Prior to COVID, many RCT studies showed no effective difference between masking and not masking for influenza and similar viruses.
The best the CDC can says is that mask mandates resulted in 0.5% reduction in COVID infections versus non-mandate areas, but cannot demonstrate that it was masks themselves that mad a difference (it could be that mask mandates modified other related behaviors). 0.5%...so for every 1000 people that get infected with COVID in non-mandated areas, *only* 995 people will get infected in mask mandated areas, maybe. Of those 5 people save from being infected, statistically zero of them will likely die from COVID.
Staying away from people and washing hands regularly are probably more effective than masks, but even those are called into question for respiratory diseases (by some of these same studies).
CDC's Emerging Infectious Diseases Journal Volume 26, Number 5—May 2020
"Nonpharmaceutical Measures for Pandemic Influenza in Nonhealthcare Settings—Personal Protective and Environmental Measures "
In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25) Influenza virus and COVID virus are not so dissimilar as to expect any real differences. Volume 26, Number 10—October 2020
"Effectiveness of Cloth Masks for Protection Against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2"
The general public can use cloth masks to protect against infection spread in the community. In community settings, masks may be used in 2 ways. First, they may be used by sick persons to prevent spread of infection (source control), and most health organizations (including WHO and CDC) recommend such use. In fact, a recent CDC policy change with regard to community use of cloth masks (1) is also based on high risk for transmission from asymptomatic or presymptomatic persons (32). According to some studies, ?25%–50% of persons with COVID-19 have mild cases or are asymptomatic and potentially can transmit infection to others. So in areas of high transmission, mask use as source control may prevent spread of infection from persons with asymptomatic, presymptomatic, or mild infections. If medical masks are prioritized for healthcare workers, the general public can use cloth masks as an alternative. Second, masks may be used by healthy persons to protect them from acquiring respiratory infections; some randomized controlled trials have shown masks to be efficacious in closed community settings, with and without the practice of hand hygiene (33). Moreover, in a widespread pandemic, differentiating asymptomatic from healthy persons in the community is very difficult, so at least in high-transmission areas, universal face mask use may be beneficial. The general public should be educated about mask use because cloth masks may give users a false sense of protection because of their limited protection against acquiring infection (16). Correctly putting on and taking off cloth masks improves protection (Table). Taking a mask off is a high-risk process (34) because pathogens may be present on the outer surface of the mask and may result in self-contamination during removal (31). n 2015, we conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy of cloth masks with that of medical masks and controls (standard practice) among healthcare workers in Vietnam (4). Rates of infection were consistently higher among those in the cloth mask group than in the medical mask and control groups. This finding suggests that risk for infection was higher for those wearing cloth masks. The mask tested was a locally manufactured, double-layered cotton mask. Participants were given 5 cloth masks for a 4-week study period and were asked to wash the masks daily with soap and water (4). The poor performance may have been because the masks were not washed frequently enough or because they became moist and contaminated. Medical and cloth masks were used by some participants in the control group, but the poor performance of cloth masks persisted in post hoc analysis when we compared all participants who used medical masks (from the control and the medical mask groups) with all participants who used only a cloth mask (from the control and the cloth mask groups)(4).
CDC "Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)"
"Association of State-Issued Mask Mandates and Allowing On-Premises Restaurant Dining with County-Level COVID-19 Case and Death Growth Rates — United States, March 1–December 31, 2020" During March 1–December 31, 2020, state-issued mask mandates applied in 2,313 (73.6%) of the 3,142 U.S. counties. Mask mandates were associated with a 0.5 percentage point decrease (p = 0.02) in daily COVID-19 case growth rates 1–20 days after implementation

It could be the infected thousands of illegal immigrants flooding the southern border from over 100 countries just might have some impact on the surge. They are not required to be tested or wear a mask. Three year old American children or being forced to put on a mask, while the border is wide open. That makes sense to the brain dead.

The fact that you think mask mandates have anything to do with communism shows you are not informed, despite what you think.
How informed are you on game theory? What about Pascal’s wager? That’s how I look at mask compliance. I can find strong arguments for and against mask efficacy from sources I trust. So this leads me to a place where my expertise and my resources aren’t enough to make an informed decision so then I use a payoff matrix where the 2 rows are my decision tree and the columns are the efficacy of the mask. If the coordinates are the expected number of people you may infect with covid if you have it or the likelihood you contract covid interacting with others based on whether or not you wear a mask and how effective the masks are, then you take the expected value of getting covid or spreading it for wearing a mask and for not wearing a mask rows and it’s pretty obvious that wearing a mask is the right choice.
I’m very aware that the efficacy of masks are up for debate and that I’m still deciding to where a mask because the net good is positive and the cost is negligible. I’ve had 1 cousin and 2 friends die from covid so far and I’m willing to make small sacrifices if it could stop there.

If you want to wear a mask, then by all means wear a mask. No one is going to stop you.
I don't think most people really mask mandates are "communism" even if that's what they say. What they are really trying to say, usually, is that mask mandates appear to be unfounded dictates by petty authoritarian politicians, who often then are "caught" violating their own mandates. "Rules for thee, but not for me," is a hallmark of authoritarian governments many of which have been/are purportedly communist (but of course, some animals are more equal than others in those societies) which may explain the terminology problem.

Whether you believe it or not, it is the truth. For some reason, the only areas failing badly with mask use seems to be mostly in southern states; i.e. Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, and to a lesser extent South Carolina.
The high volume of covid deaths the last 30 days include many young children, as well as adults who just refuse to get vaccinated. Young children can best be protected by wearing masks while in school, as there are no vaccines currently ready for children under 12 years old.

A mask cannot keep you from getting Covid. Even Dr. Fauci in his emails stated that. If you are wearing a true surgical mask or an N 95 mask and it fits properly and you were wearing it properly still it will protect you a little bit short term in a confined area but if you spend an extended period of time in a confined area around someone or people that have Covid that mask will do some but not a lot and it will not prevent you from getting Covid.
The vast majority of people are not wearing a surgical mask or an N 95 mask. And if they do it’s not gonna do any good if it’s not sized properly and if they aren’t wearing it properly.
The science is all over the map on the efficacy of maps. The general consensus is it does some help but they don’t know exactly how much and that’s if you are around someone for a short period of time.

Sorry but the mask didn't keep her from getting it. Probably washing hands and being lucky enough not to get it. I also heard driving your car off a cliff is recommended by the government. Says it reduces the chances of dying from covid. For some of you that claim to be so smart you really have no sense at all. Keep watching cnn and bumbling Biden. Furthermore if this mandate is forced in public schools you risk the loss of funding from the government. guess I won't be going to Clemson anytime soon. It has turned into a liberal #### hole just like the rest of the world.

I recommend you read any number of the CDC's own journal studies. These are talking about randomized controlled trials, actual scientific experiments trying to determine whether or not masks help. At best, these days the CDC can only point to non-RCT evidence that says that *maybe* areas with mask-mandates result in a 0.5% decrease in COVID transmission compared to areas without mask mandates.
If masks are all people are claiming them to be, should the difference be more than 0.5%. A 0.5% difference means that if 1000 people in a non-mask mandate are contract COVID, *only* 995 people would contract COVID in the mask-mandated area.
One study pointed out that mask use among the general public may result in more exposures, because the general public do not use masks properly (touching them all the time, pulling them up and down all the time), do not wash them often enough, and
"we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks"
"6 studies in household settings examining the effect of hand hygiene with or without face masks, but the overall pooled effect was not statistically significant"
"Respiratory etiquette is often listed as a preventive measure for respiratory infections. However, there is a lack of scientific evidence to support this measure."
"Rates of infection were consistently higher among those in the cloth mask group than in the medical mask and control groups. The poor performance may have been because the masks were not washed frequently enough or because they became moist and contaminated. The general public should be educated about mask use because cloth masks may give users a false sense of protection because of their limited protection against acquiring infection (16). Correctly putting on and taking off cloth masks improves protection (Table). Taking a mask off is a high-risk process (34) because pathogens may be present on the outer surface of the mask and may result in self-contamination during removal.
In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25)
CDC "Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)" "Association of State-Issued Mask Mandates and Allowing On-Premises Restaurant Dining with County-Level COVID-19 Case and Death Growth Rates — United States, March 1–December 31, 2020" During March 1–December 31, 2020, state-issued mask mandates applied in 2,313 (73.6%) of the 3,142 U.S. counties. Mask mandates were associated with a 0.5 percentage point decrease (p = 0.02) in daily COVID-19 case growth rates 1–20 days after implementation

The percentage of of getting vaccinated vs unvaccinated is almost the same sorry you are wrong on that. The So called low payed government experts CDC /DEHEC who could not get better jobs , are the ones spewing out these numbers, and you trust them? The study just came out about the largest demographic unvaccinated and it’s the people with PHD’s. Hmmm? Wonder why that is?

That study was a Facebook survey. And it did not say that phds are the largest group unvaccinated, it said that those the self reported a phd level of education were the most hesitant to receive the vaccine. So much wrong with that study. What it tells me is that phds that have time to troll Facebook and take surveys are the most hesitant to be vaccinated or that those that are hesitant are also more likely to lie about their level of education. Let’s wait for the peer review before staking in truth to that survey. The sheer number of PhDs is enough to raise eyebrows. For a survey of over 5,000,000 randomly selected people, the expected number of PhDs should be somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000. The survey gathered only 10,000 PhDs, that tells me the survey is probably not as random as they would like is to think.
Take a look at the map of vaccination by county for NC. The highest rates of vaccination are around Raleigh-Durham. Which also happens to be one of the highest concentrations of phds in the country.

respirator is for respiratory protection.
There is a lot of mis-information out there about masks and their ability to protect. The concept of source control is that I limit the spread of my germs/contaminants in an environment by wearing a mask. The idea is that mask would protect others around me-those within 6' of me for over 15 minutes.
In order to get respiratory protection, you must wear an appropriate fitting respirator with the correct filter media for the hazard, i.e. particulate or vapor. There are two classifications of respirators: supplied air respirators (SAR) and air purifying respirators (APR). There are many types of respirators that fall under these two categories. Respirators have a NISOH certification and a "TC" number stamped on them.
Masks are NOT for respiratory protection, and only provide "source control".
I am afraid that people are getting a false sense of security by wearing masks. As a safety professional, I wonder why the government hasn't recommended respiratory protection instead of source control. Disposable respirators are readily available and are not that expensive. Half masks with N95 or P100 cartridges are a little more expensive, but they offer real respiratory protection.
I believe the best protection is to wash hands and maintain social distancing. Avoiding exposure is key... Which reminds me of going into Home Depot last week and watching an older man walk out of a bathroom stall adjusting his belt and then heading straight out without washing his hands. This is one of the reasons why COVID is lingering. Nasty people not washing hands and touching stuff in public.

I live in Michigan. No mask mandates here, currently. I’ll leave that here.
It’s hotter down south than here. People are inside more. That means they are in closer contact. That may explain why the southern states have more cases. It may be the opposite here in a few months.
Vaccinated people are getting infected. Unvaccinated people are getting infected (of course). If you chose to get the vaccine, great. If chose to not get the vaccine, that is your decision; just like someone deciding to get the vaccine. I would like to see more information and data on immunity for COVID-19 recover patients. That seems to be severely lacking. All the news is about vaccinated vs non-vaccinated.
Just pointing out, all the vaccines I have had throughout my life result in me not getting the infection for which the vaccine was intended to protect us from. This vaccine seems to be different. So maybe it’s not the panacea he hoped?
We are the greatest country ever to grace the face of this earth. We have defeated facism, fought a war with ourselves to end slavery, won the cold war, put 12 people on the moon and have been the shining city on the hill for over 200 years. We’ve done all this because we believe in freedom of the human spirit and the right of every person to dertemrine their own destiny. Let’s not fracture over this. We’ve survived, as country and a people, more dire circumstances than this.
Get the vaccine if you want. Don’t get it if you want. The choice and consequences are yours. But, let’s not let’s this become our gold Star of David.

In order to infect others, someone has to have COVID. They would also not know that they have COVID, because otherwise they will not be out and about. If they do not know that they have COVID then that probably means that they do not have symptoms. To truly harm someone else they are going to have to pass it on to someone that gets a more severe case which probably will not be me or any other vaccinated person. We can play the what if game and come up with all kinds of things more dangerous than going maskless.
I would rather the city council mandate that the students have to order everything off of Amazon or Walmart delivery so they would would stay off of the dang roads. That prevents the spread, reduces the need for infrastructure, and improves highway safety all at once.

You'd think so, but I doubt it. I was in the drive through line at the bank and for some reason one of the employees came out and disinfected the thing they use to send stuff through the tube. They told me the person in line ahead of me told them they were sick with COVID, and they were touching the tube and buttons!

You are not paying attention to the argument. The statement was “there is no data to support that claim.”
I then presented a methodology that would provide anyone with internet access with a plethora of resources that argue both for and against the efficacy of masks, thereby proving that data that shows that masks are effective does, in fact, exist.

My head is not “in the sand”. I treat patients daily and have seen many Covid patients. These studies are flawed and funded by a government that has a desired outcome. The largest “clinical trial” on mask mandates has been performed on the population as a whole. Graph after graph that shows a timeline of virus incidence vs mask mandates show NO EFFECT on the curve. If masks worked, the curve should be blunted. I don’t need a government funded flawed study to read a graph.
Perhaps YOU should get YOUR head out of the sand and not take every piece of government and news media bull #### as gospel.

So sounds like you are admitting that you were wrong and there is, in fact, data that suggests masks are effective. But you are still holding onto the fact that all of those studies are government and media lies… in other words there is no piece of data that you will accept as fact unless it supports your predetermined position. This is what we call confirmation bias. What is this desired outcome you are convinced the government is looking for?
You asked for proof that masks work, so now it’s my turn. Why don’t you show me proof that the government and media are colluding with hundreds of colleges, universities and medical professionals to propitiate this heinous lie that masks could potentially reduce the spread of covid?

And there are literally dozens of RCTs that say masks probably have no impact on the transmission of respiratory diseases like colds and influenza (30% of colds are caused by various coronavirus, i.e., te same family of virus that cause COVID).
Probably because the general public are not wearing proper masks or wearing masks properly.
I was in the grocery store and saw a guy pull his mask down off his face--SO THAT HE COULD COUGH INTO HIS HAND, the pulled his mask back on. Watch football games from last season..you'll see refs wearing masks...then when the refs need to discuss a penalty flag, they huddle together AND THEN PULL THEIR MASKS DOWN TO TALK TO EACH OTHER, then pull their masks back on and run back to their positions. Yes, these are just anecdotes and I would not extrapolate it to mean that no one does it correctly. I'll let the RCTs do that.

In 2015, we conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy of cloth masks with that of medical masks and controls (standard practice) among healthcare workers in Vietnam (4). Rates of infection were consistently higher among those in the cloth mask group than in the medical mask and control groups.
This finding suggests that risk for infection was higher for those wearing cloth masks.
The poor performance may have been because the masks were not washed frequently enough or because they became moist and contaminated.

So if there are dozens of studies that say masks help, and dozens of studies that say they don’t, ask yourself this: what is the right thing to do?

There is no data to support this claim. The data suggest otherwise.

So. If a person is vaccinated, they might still contract Covid, but the effects are diminished greatly... and (BONUS) become a part of the herd immunity. I really don't see a down side here.
Do you try to enter restaurants that require shirts and shoes without one or the other? Just like the city of Clemson, their rules... you don't have to go.
Do you drive around without a seatbelt on? People still get killed in car crashes you know. Their rules, you don't have to drive.

Yes, there is a downside. The vaccine has risk.
And yes, I DO ride around without a seatbelt. I’m still MUCH safer than those that ride motorcycles with or without a helmet. They CHOOSE to ride a motorcycle. Should we outlaw this practice to make them “safer”?

Um hum.
Every time you get caught without a seatbelt... you get a fine. Pretty good indicator that your behavior is not acceptable.
Comparative safety between a car and a motorcycle is simply a stupid thing to do. Even so, with bikes, helmets are required as a safety measure. Sorry mate, but have not run into someone this obtuse... maybe ever.

So far all I get is called names and insulted but nobody has posted anything that proves me wrong.
Bret Weinstein and his wife Heather are lifelong Democrats, lifelong progressives, some of the most vaccinated people on the planet because of their scientific trips to the Amazon, they both have PhD‘s in biology, and they are not getting the vaccine and are taking ivermectin. I have been taking ivermectin since March after seeing testimony before Congress by Dr. Kory Who has presented data to the NIH on two different occasions following congressional testimony and both times the NIH change their treatment guidelines because of Dr. Kory and the FLCCC so he is in fact a preeminent scientist and expert recognized by the CDC and the NIH but when he goes on YouTube to be interviewed by Brett Weinstein or others those videos are taken down and censored as misinformation or disinformation. When this is a guy that the NIH and the CDC listen to.
My doctor graduated from Clemson and Duke med school. I showed him the FLCCC protocol and he prescribed ivermectin for me.
Most people do not wear a surgical mask or an N 95 mask. Those are the only two masks that actually do any good and even they only work in limited situations assuming they’re sized correctly and being worn properly. The overwhelming majority of people are wearing a mask that doesn’t fit properly and that is made out of paper or cotton and will not block a virus.
I saw an excellent video on YouTube the other night that was a recording of a symposium in 2017 sponsored by the Smithsonian and Johns Hopkins and funded by the Bill Gates foundation. They talked about the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918. They said one of the things that epidemic proved was that quarantines do not stop a virus. Yet everywhere you look we are seeing lockdowns and quarantine. It does not work. Last spring when Covid was running rampant in New York 65% of the new cases were people that were quarantining at home.
You cannot stop a virus. It’s better to let it run its course quickly and have people get natural immunity which is better than a vaccine and let it burn out than to do crazy things that will make it drag out over an extended period of time.
So so much of what we are being told it’s just total BS. We never ever should’ve locked down and these lockdowns have been far worse than the virus itself. It has crashed the economy destroyed peoples lives and been the biggest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle-class to the wealthy in American history.
Drug addiction, alcoholism, depression, other serious mental health issues, suicide, especially among young people and children, all of these things have gone up substantially over the last 18 months.
Do you understand how the PCR test works? It sucks for Covid. PCR experts say we should not be using the PCR test for Covid. The CDC is actually now calling for a new and better test because of how flawed the PCR test is. No one should be randomly testing for Covid with a PCR test. You should only get tested if you have symptoms. A positive test does not mean you have Covid. The test has a high rate of false positives and if you don’t have the underlying data to understand how many cycles it took to get that positive the test is useless and meaningless.
They have set the cycle rate for the PCR test for Covid at 40 cycles. Most experts will tell you anything more than 25 or 27 cycles that person does not have Covid is not sick will not get sick and cannot spread Covid. That’s why so many people are testing positive that never have symptoms. Because they don’t have Covid. But we don’t get that information. All we get is a positive or a negative. If you don’t know how many cycles it took to get to that positive and you’re not showing symptoms it is a meaningless test and you should not be quarantined.

I was a Republican after graduating high school in 1977. That all changed with the 2016 election. That was the first time I didn't vote at all, as both Clinton and Trump were both poor options. Clinton actually won the popular vote, but Trump won the electorial college votes.
After watching four years of Trump, I refused to vote for him in 2020. Trump has criminal charges coming soon in the New York fraud cases. He also has Georgia criminal charges coming soon that are related to his call to the Georgia Secretary of State requesting the Secretary to transfer enough votes for Joe Biden over to Trump so he could have just enough to be ahead of Biden before 1/6/2021. The Secretary refused to commit a crime and they sent nothing to Trump. Trump's request is a federal crime.

it is a slam dunk since everything said in the call was recorded by the Georgia Secretary of State when Trump was asking for 11,700 votes to be "removed" from the Biden total and moved to Trumps total so he could say on 1/6/2021 that he had won Georgia. That one is a slam dunk federal crime by Trump.
The New York bank fraud cases are still underway with new Trump criminal charges coming to trial in September.

because people don’t mask consistently or properly.
All of the people complaining about “muh freedoms!” who think it’s cute to not wear a mask when they are supposed to, or who walk around with a mask below their nose, are a huge reason why we are still in this mess.
When the CDC said that vaccinated people could stop wearing masks, the anti-mask and anti-vaccine folks used that as an opportunity to stop wearing masks themselves.
Congrats to them, here we are with the delta variant wreaking havoc.
I’m so tired of selfish people!

There has been a wall along sections of the Mexican border going back decades. This didn’t become a thing until Trump was in office and people hated Trump. Obama and Hillary used to be against open borders. Democrats need open borders now because they have lost so much of the white union vote from the Midwest to the Republicans.
The wall is like when Trump said he was wired tapped. Everyone with two brain cells that’s objective and doesn’t have Trump derangement syndrome understood that he meant surveillance. Just like when he talks about the wall he’s talking about a combination of things depending on where you are on the border. A wall, video surveillance, drones, more border patrol, etc. etc. It’s a multifaceted approach. And if walls did not work people would not build them. Look at the Berlin wall. Look at the walls around the compounds that Rich Democrats live in. That big tech tycoons live in behind gates and walls. Saying walls don’t work is just stupid and denial of reality!

We get it, you saw the Facebook meme that compares masks to chain link fences. Because it’s funny doesn’t make it accurate.
https://www.pnas.org/content/118/4/e2014564118An evidence review of face masks against COVID-19 The science around the use of masks by the public to impede COVID-19 transmission is advancing rapidly. In this narrative review, we develop an analytical framework to examine mask usage, synthesizing the relevant literature to inform multiple areas: population impact, transmission characteristics, source control, wearer protection, sociological considerations, and implementation considerations. A primary route of transmission of COVID-19 is via respiratory particles, and it is known to be transmissible from presymptomatic, paucisymptomatic, and asymptomatic individuals. Reducing disease spread requires two things: limiting contacts of infected individuals via physical distancing and other measures and reducing the transmission probability per contact. The preponderance of evidence indicates that mask wearing reduces transmissibility per contact by reducing transmission of infected respiratory particles in both laboratory and clinical contexts. Public mask wearing is most effective at reducing spread of the virus when compliance is high. Given the current shortages of medical masks, we recommend the adoption of public cloth mask wearing, as an effective form of source control, in conjunction with existing hygiene, distancing, and contact tracing strategies. Because many respiratory particles become smaller due to evaporation, we recommend increasing focus on a previously overlooked aspect of mask usage: mask wearing by infectious people (“source control”) with benefits at the population level, rather than only mask wearing by susceptible people, such as health care workers, with focus on individual outcomes. We recommend that public officials and governments strongly encourage the use of widespread face masks in public, including the use of appropriate regulation.

First the Delta variant originated in India not unvaccinated unmasked Americans. The vaccines are not sterile. They are not designed to nor capable of cleansing the earth of Covid. Covid is carried by several animal species. Regardless of how successful humans are of starving it out for a time it will survive in animal reservoirs, mutate, & infect humans again & again. This is why a respiratory virus such as the flu can’t be eradicated despite somewhat effective vaccines existing for DECADES. You can’t wait this out. You can’t hide. Masks are primarily theatre. Be healthy, take reasonable precautions, and stop the insanity!

Well maybe you should not have been so selfish by greedly running for your vaccine. Until the spread is controlled in third world nations, we are just waiting for the next variant that has escaped OUR latest vaccine. But don't YOU worry, you can get your booster next month.

But people spread the flu virus by not practicing social distance, not wearing masks, not washing hands and thousands, sometimes tens of thousands, of people are killed every flu season.
Apparently most of America is just fine with [10-90K flu deaths] EVERY YEAR." and always have been.
But now all of a sudden it's "You HAVE to wear the mask IF IT SAVES EVEN ONE LIFE", isn't that the mantra?
Imagine that we get a miracle cure for COVID, 100% effective at treateing and preventing COVID, with absolutely zero side effects.
Are we going to go back to pre-COVID behaviors and return to the callous murdering ways of not protecting everyone from the flu all the time, by wearing masks and practicing social distancing, etc. IF IT SAVES EVEN ONE LIFE.

Pretty unlikely based on statistics. More likely that you suffocate slowly on a ventilator.

"Anti-maskers" is an intentional misnomer. Maybe there are a few, but I think most people are anti-MANDATE, and feel that you can wear a mask if you want.

It is absolutely not a misnomer, spend 10 minutes on the covid bored and you will see plenty of people outraged at the idea of wearing a mask.

We don't live in independent bubbles where our decisions only affect ourselves.
I don't understand the protest over the mask mandate.
Rules are in place for a reason, to protect the population at large.

Simple answer , don’t spend money in city limits of a liberal city. If your for the decision, then make a special trip to spend money in the city.
What they are doing is making decisions, with Clemson U. approval, after Iptay money has been turned in. Who couldn’t see this coming?

I will not "protect" white liberals who demand others to wear a mask so they feel safe so they can go back to protesting and hoopin' and hollerin' over how bad other white americans are. people live and die everyday. Im also not worried about a measly hundred dollar fine.. i suppose thats the perks of being the son and grandson of prominent south carolina attorneys. i can afford it and ive got the legal side covered as well. mask. will. be. Nobody is living in fear. They just want to do all they reasonably can to prevent themselves and others from getting sick. Are you in a state of fear whenever you put on your seatbelt?

I always have to chuckle at the range of views and degrees of attempted rationalization that show up on articles like this but you all have agreed on whether you want to admit it or not is 1) none of us like to wear masks and 2) masks reduce (eliminate) the risk of spreading covid. So if they help us protect each other then why not put up with a little discomfort (if you can't breath through the mask then you might want to consider cutting down to less than a pack a day) and let's work together on this and quit whining about what you think your rights are. You might have the "right" to be stupid but you have the "obligation" as Christians, as many of you claim to be, to protect your fellowman. So cover that beautiful face of yours - we'll just have to wait to see it for a while.

After 7 different pages of comments, I have 2 questions. 1) Does this mean masks for all Clemson Sporting Events, ie Football and Basketball.? 2) If council voted on this yesterday, and it went into effect immediately, why are less than 10% of the people I just saw in Downtown Clemson not wearing masks when I drove thru 10 mins ago? My Wife, as well as Myself, both got our Moderna shots in March. We both work in nonmedical enviroments and wear masks per Corporate decisions. Neither of us have had symptoms or been sick. Still wear mask when going.to grocery store and to the mall where no one wears a mask. Think about it. If you choose not to get the vaccine, that's your choice. Same.with mask. But if, or when you come down with Covid, and I pray that nobody gets it, it's because you made the decision not to to do either.

"But if, or when you come down with Covid, and I pray that nobody gets it, it's because you made the decision not to to do either. "
Tell that to the tens of thousands of "breakthrough" cases.
Of course we don't know how many of these there are *now*, because the CDC stopped counting them, lest their reports on the apparent lack of effectiveness of the vaccines might cause people to question the rationale of getting the experimental injection. Just like OSHA stopped tracking adverse effects of employer-mandated vaccinations: " OSHA does not wish to have any appearance of discouraging workers from receiving COVID-19 vaccination, and also does not wish to disincentivize employers’ vaccination efforts.”

I chose to get the vaccine and wear a mask because I'm 64 years old, I have 2 stints in the arteries going into my heart. I can retire and start.drawing my.pension next month. I would like.to travel when I retire and stay healthy and be able to live alot longer. That was.my decision and I believe it was a good one.

Just be glad that we have college football and some normalcy. Stop whining about masks people. The unvaccinated are the sickest people right now with COVID. Mask up and get your shot. Quicker that happens the faster we turn the corner.
