The loss of Davis and Dixon is a killer

With Davis out for the season, we can not depend on holding everyone down to 10 points or fewer. He played the whole game Saturday and we needed every minute of him.
Dixon situation just seems like there was no way it should have come to this. Makes me wonder what the hell is going on with the offensive coaching staff.
The worst thing about this season is that I never really thought we could return to an offense that was this unwatchable, at this time. This offense is worse than Hatfield, Tommy West, and 2010 Dabo. Those teams were not full of six years worth of top-10 recruiting classes like this one. And for Dabo or any coach to say, "we got who we got", does not make any sense when you have six straight top-10 recruitiing classes. These players should be better prepared and playing better. This offensive team should not be this anemic.

There’s not enough in common between you and actual Clemson fans to justify your use of the word “we”.

Losing Davis sucks. Losing Dixon is a good thing.

The last thing a struggling team needs is a guy worried about his caries.
Dixon is also not a game changer. Our OL is AWFUL. Shipley is the only RB who can make something out of nothing.
If we had an OL, then losing Dixon would suck.

Our OL is not awful but if they work hard and apply themselves they could be.

All I can say is I remember watching Dixon take come snaps two years ago to give ETN some rest and there was not much of a drop off between the two. I think Dixon is a good RB and will be missed. Kid has talent. Go back two years and watch.

By no means is he a scrub, but it’s also not a big hit to our team. Now it could be: if, God forbid, a couple of our RBs have an injury. Dixon did a nice job for us, and will soon be an alum. There should be no bashing. Best of luck to him as he tries to find a team and attract NFL interest.

Not a mystery at all for Dixon. Better talent ahead of him. Got beat out which is what all sports scenarios are about. He took his ball and left.

I agree about Davis as that will hurt our defense but.....

you seem to be putting all the blame for Dixon on the coaching staff. You know that Dabo (and therefore CJ Spiller) have rules. As a Senior, Dixon as much as anybody knows that. But for some reason he had a problem(s) that was his to correct. You know Dabo doesn't "give in." It's a player's responsibility to correct his behavior. Dixon had his chances. Maybe he feels like he was entitled to the starting job? I don't know. But I'm glad he'll be moving on so this situation gets settled.

As Dabo says every season, they start over, and no position is locked down, and that all positions are up for grabs. I don't know but, maybe Dixon believed that the starting RB position was his once ETN moved on. And maybe with CJ coming as the new RBs coach, his rule was they would have to earn the starting spot in his eyes. We never know for sure, but I do believe that CJ will be able to recruit top RBs, and coach them into being top RBs....

Davis will hurt, next man up. It's not last year

That extra year for everyone has built depth.
Coaching doesn't seem to mind LJ. They might not have went ALL SEC and said "get out" , but putting him 3rd on the depth chart every week got the same result.

Losing Tyler is very significant. No doubt about it. Not even debatable.
Losing LJD won't hurt our offense very much. He's just not all that good.

I agree losing Tyler is significant. Dixon is a good back, but hes not the world beater many seem to all of a sudden think he is. Thankfully we have depth at the position and if its what it sounds like it may be addition by subtraction since everyone should be pulling in the same direction now. I wish him well but I dont think we'll miss all that much.

Davis had 51 total snaps ...

That’s definitely NOT the entire game.
Ruke and Tre played a lot at DT spelling both Bresee and Davis.
By comparison, Skalski pretty much played the entire game ... with 70+ snaps.

7-8 weeks out for Davis, so I would guess we have him back

for the final four games of the regular season, ACC Championship if we get there and playoffs or bowl game.
For Dixon, I am just amazed at how many fans are so angry at our coaches. Our coaches that we have known for a decade as players' coaches and very successful. Yet so many on here seem to fill in the blanks with assumptions that the coaches were at fault. Maybe they were...maybe they screwed up here. But I would never assume that, given their track record. And I know CJ is new but he's also always been an amazing team player and representative of Clemson...the idea that he would suddenly be an insecure ego-driven position coach and that Dabo would publicly back that? I guess anything is possible but history would suggest otherwise. I also know LJD has been a great student-athlete for Clemson and he should be proud of that...but it wouldn't shock me that a college kid...even an upper classman...who sees his opportunity diminish when he has put in so much time and energy...would get emotional and possibly not handle it optimally.
Anyway, the defense will be more than up to the task of handling the middle of the season without Davis IF we can get the offense going...if we cannot, it doesn't really matter what the defense does because we are in trouble regardless.

Dabo calling him out was a mistake. He shouldn't have done that. Doesn't matter if what he said was true. IMO, coaches should protect their players publicly.

Then those players shouldn't whine when other players make decisions... https://theclemsoninsider.com/2020/03/06/dixon-was-taken-aback-by-etiennes-decision/Dixon was ‘taken aback’ by Etienne’s decision When offensive coordinator Tony Elliott got a phone call from Travis Etienne a few days after the national championship game in January and found out about his star running back’s decision to return to Clemson for his senior season, Elliott was actually in a room with Lyn-J Dixon having a one-on-o...
... And then they definitely shouldn't whine if an underclassmen comes in and looks better than them. He had his chance to make himself the best back... And apparently he failed.

I felt bad (a little) for LJD when ETN announced he would return. That was supposed to be LJD's year to be "the man" and his bubble was burst.
At the same time, I had serious doubts LJD was up to the task of being the #1 RB on a championship contender.
IMO, it all worked out for the best, though I'm sure LJD would disagree.

Is there a way we can bottle this post up, mass produce it, and label it "Common Sense Cola"? The lack of common sense on this board as it relates to our current situation is mind blowing.
Great post.

anymore. Dabo said earlier that he needed to "grow up".. which leads me to believe he was seeing the writing on the wall with all these new RB prospects and probably starting whining about his position slipping away. The best way to beat out those guys is to go beat them in practice. Didn't happen. These kids these days are not interested in competition and beating someone for your job. They've been trained to believe in hand-outs. Not all..but there are those that feel you have an obligation as a coach/business owner/teacher to give them what they expect to get. REgardless of if they deserve it or not.

Davis maybe,Dixon will not be missed on the field. Shipley is by far our best runner. Lyn J should have done what he was told and grow up. Instead he takes his ball and goes home. Ask Feaster how well that worked out for him.
