I quit smoking.
At the time I didn't want to. I enjoyed it too much. It was a crutch for me. The urge was strong. As I smoked that last cigarette my anxiety levels were off the chart.
I knew I had to do it for a couple of reasons and I didn't care about the second. 1:It was expensive and it would free up money. 2:My health.
I had a plan in place that I stuck to and served very well for me. I used the patch and I had an item that I made myself to "relearn" my self that I wasn't getting nicotine anymore. It worked for me.
During the time I had just quitted, my smelling and to an extent taste had changed. The smell is stronger to me. The smell is nasty to me. I cannot stand the smell of a smoker.
I am happy to say that now I have been 5 years smoke free. I don't have the desire to smoke anymore.
Still, I ask for prayers so I never consider picking up a cigarette again.
Thanks for reading, Jedi Kermit

I still smoke. I've used the patch a number of times over the years and it works - as long as you want it to. People who haven't had a cig for 30yrs will tell me they could "eat a pack right now!"..but they don't. You never lose the desire and you don't "quit," you simply STOP. Glad you've done that, and wish you continued success. I need to stop after 40yrs and counting. God bless you and hang on. Life is good. and GO Tigers!

I am happy for you who have quit and sympathetic to those who've not yet been successful. I quit dipping (again) just over a year ago. I went cold turkey and it was a challenge...and still is. More than once a day I still crave a dip. My father stopped smoking after many decades. He told me that after the 2 year mark things calm down further. I intend to find out.

I dipped shoal for over 40 years. Yes, 40+ years. I fought quitting for the last ten and tried everything. I succeeded 7 years ago by 1) finally getting the balls to saying no to the chemical side and at the same time 2) finding a good physical side replacement (Smokey Mountain Snuff). Good product. You can do it.

I swear, I've had dreams about smoking and it felt like a positive deal.
Wake up thinking I should go get a black and mild or something with real smoke to get that fix. Never do, and so goes another day. Day by day

My childhood best friend started smoking when he was in high school. I Urged him to quit for years. He would quit for a few months and then pick it back up. He died earlier this year at 52 of a heart attack. It’s not a good habit.

Had I put my mind to it at the time in high school, I would have. I was more interested in playing than studying at the time.

My Dad smoked for over 20 years and quit...many times. He finally decided to go to a hypnotist. The hypnotist had an auditorium full of smokers and had them hold their last cigarette in one hand and a lighter in the other. He had them close their eyes and told them over and over how nasty cigarettes taste. He finally told them to put their cigarette in their mouth and how bad it was going to taste when they lit it. He told them to light up and take a drag. My Dad tried to light the cigarette but was having trouble. He kept the lighter going, pulled harder, and said he saw a flame through his eye lids. It was the worst taste he had ever had in his mouth. He opened his eyes and realized he had the cigarette backwards, he had caught the filter on fire, and had a mouthful of tobacco. Oddly enough, he never smoked again.

the appeal of sucking smoke down into my lungs. I have a brother who has smoked for about 55 years. Over 20 years ago he was diagnosed with bladder cancer...the doctor told him bladder cancer was closer correlated to smoking than lung cancer!
They removed his bladder and has to wear a bag. He quit smoking for about 3 months, then started back. Now, at 73 years old, he has been in the hospital twice in the past two years with respiratory problems.
But sadly, he's still smoking!

Congratulations on a great decision. It amazes me every time I go to the grocery store and see the $75 or so price for cigarettes and then see the person who spends their money on smoking and get in a car with an expired tag. Sad.

True. I don't use nicotine anymore. That said, like so many things that are bad for our body, it easier said than done. Just ate a donut at 7pm this evening with a coffee.

very lucky that i never started. My buddies peer pressured me a couple of times during my teenage years but those were the only two or three cigarettes i ever smoked in my life. Starting at age 40 something, I tried cigars and liked the feel of them. I probably smoke about 15 or so annually in the last fifteen years. My doc says that is not considered smoking so i guess i am ok. I smoke a couple at the clemson home games and then a couple a month during the summer on my pontoon rides. And thats it. Do yall think i am ok?

I started smoking as a freshman at Clemson and smoked for 20 years. I quit when God told me to. It was in a week where my brother-in-law had a heart attack from smoking, a friend had a collapsed lung from smoking, and my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer from smoking. I put them down and never picked them back up. It gets WAY easier the longer you go. I used to be in the “I miss it every day” camp but that leaves you after a while. Convince yourself that you are a non-smoker. If you can do that, you’ve won.

a visit with our family doctor.
Dad had smoked since age 11, and the doc told him that his health was so good, he ought to give up the cigarettes. Dad tossed his pack of Old Golds into the garbage and never smoked again, living for another 26 years. He said that once he tossed that pack, he just never thought about smoking again...a necessity for a lot of will power.

I was a heavy smoker and had a heart attack at 40 years old. The Doctor told me very simply, if You don't quit, You are going to die. He scared me bad. I told Him I had already quit, last night. Never smoked another one and that's been over 38 years ago.

Way to go Jedi. Best decision you’ll ever make! I quit about 28 years ago. Unlike some of you, I don’t remember the exact date and time. It was a tough battle for a good while but it does get easier. I remember loving the smell of someone smoking near me, wanted a cigarette 3 foot long. It was already expensive then, can’t imagine paying the prices today. Your sense of smell and taste will improve and you will again love all kinds of food. I don’t forget the dreams of smoking and wake up and my hand is on my mouth and I’m trying to “take a drag” off a cigarette. Start walking, even though it will be hard for you to breathe for a while. But once you get back into some kind of shape….you’ll find it helps so much. Congratulations again!
