on NIL/portal?
Asking for a friend.
At some point, staff of the Clemson athletic department have to think and speak for themselves. This cannot go on forever.

No he hasn't. I'm convinced if Dabo handed him the keys to a brand new car, his response would be it better come with free lifetime oil changes.

You are joking I assume. We have a coach that completely turned our program around and then won 2 natties and you want some arm chair quarterback sitting behind a desk to tell dabo how to run his program? Rolling on the floor laughing at you!

He did all that. Unfortunately for us, and apparently no one else, the changing of the landscape was too much for a once revolutionary coach. His strict moral coding has no room for change such as this.
He can shut everyone up next year with a return to the playoffs. But that’s what everyone said going into 23.

4/5 star players in the portal are demanding lots of NIL Money

My assumption is Dabo's plan is to reward players who are here and have proven contributions and the NIL isn't as robust as Texas, Auburn, Ohio State, Alabama and others who are willing to pay a Defensive Tackle $500K or a transfer QB $1 mil.
Offensive Linemen, especially tackles come at a premium price and Clemson can't outbid other top programs.

I am not sure if your post was for CottonScouts original post or to Gen2's comment, but wanted to add a comment here. I am not trying to "zing" anyone. But seriously, if you want to see Clemson participate in the Portal more activity, then you need to be ponying up some money to the collective. If you are, I tip my cap to you. Thank you for your commitment. If you are not, then.... I know personally I can't stroke a check for any more money right now. So I am staying quite about portal players.
Regarding NIL needs, I have not seen a post yet that definitely states what it costs for a "competitive" roster. You cant just pay 1 or 2 kids. You are going to end up getting the whole team some support or there will be issues in the locker room. I think that was a problem initially when DJ, got his "big deal" with Bojangles. But raising 14 million a year in NIL for the team, would mean about $250 dollars per season ticket at Clemson. So that $500 dollar season ticket needs to be closer to $750-$800, each. So if you are buying 2 season tickets, that is $500 to the 110 society/ and that is not counting the IPTAY donation. IPTAY also needs money. The IPTAY money is paying for the scholarships and facilities and extra for coaches for the entire athletic program at Clemson.
That is why I am concerned about getting on this portal hamster wheel. Saying we should do something, versus pulling the money together to actually do something, is 2 different things.

Dr Pepper and Bojangles Deals
Jan 22, 2024, 8:10 AM
|
|
DJ”s Dr Pepper and Bojangles deals are what NIL was supposed to be. Some third party thought it was a good investment to pay a College Football Player to endorse their product. The NCAA. Bungled this so bad bad that the former example has now turned into what we have now. Unregulated pay for play through collectives. Sure Caleb Williams was in. Dr Pepper ad and Atlanta is littered with Billboards with UGA players advertising law firms and onions, but the headlines are the pay for play schemes that are allowed because NIL is unregulated by the NCAA or the Conferences. Clemson was well positioned when it was was truly Name Image and Likeness. Make a commercial, sell a jersey, run a side hustle selling cell phone cases. We can’t have a me too approach in the pay for play game with Ohio State which raised 13M in collectives.

Which is Clemson's NIL from what has been stated on this board is $5 to $6 million, while Auburn reportedly is $13 million and Ohio State around $15 million.
I am not sure if your intent was to reply to me or the original post. I understand Clemson's situation and Dabo's philosophy.
With the new SEC and Big 10 TV Deals and influx of revenue, I see both schools creating more NIL opportunities for athletes by having their school sponsorship partners allocate a portion of budget towards NIL and marketing opportunities to star athletes for social media posts, photo shoots, and commercials.

What makes you think they are silent? How do you know they aren’t all in full agreement of their own free will? Maybe they’re holding Dabo back

LOL You DA's have no clue

Once Dabo goes Saban and quits because of this NIL BS, you ######## are gonna find out Lil Ole Clemson will NEVER compete again ,when they have to bid for Players against Teams in BIGGGER Markets AND LARGE Alumni bases.
Once the Clemson Family, Something Special In Those Hills is gone, so is Clemson.

Then so be it. The ONLY reason I still have interest in college football is because of what Dabo is doing. The current NIL format is not sustainable, and I personally think we will see less of this big money being thrown around when no ROI is seen by these mega doners. If the Clemson way is successful, I think it goes away even quicker.
I don't watch the NFL very much because as Seinfeld said you're pretty much cheering for laundry. I never want to see Clemson turn into FSU, Ole Miss, A&M or the coots. I enjoy seeing a kid show up and work their way into the lineup and turn into stars. I enjoy rooting for that kid that busts his hump in practice and only gets a few plays a game. I couldn't care any less to root for and cheer on a team full of mercenaries for a shot of winning it all. The ends do not always justify the means.
Worst case I'll roll over to Anderson University and back a group of kids out there playing because they love to play.
