Well, camping/fishing at Lake Greenwood today. I decided to take one more cast with my chartreuse jig with a 1/8 th ounce red jig head (even said out loud..."OK fish, last chance to take the bait"). Just as I started reeling in, a fish took it. I immediately told Pem to get the net, and we spent 25 minutes trying to get the fish to the boat. It was dragging us through the cove we were in, with the drag on the reel constantly being pulled out. I had 10 pound test spiderwire (braided) on the reel, so did not want the drag too tight. It took awhile to get the net under the fish. It was a 39 pound, 13 ounce catfish. She looked pregnant, so she was set free!
Keep in mind as you look at the pic...I am over 6'3", so from my waist down is about 40 inches

Which would be a humongous channel cat. Doesn't have the colors of a blue or flathead

That would be a channel cat, stress and/ or old age turns them from brown to white.

And my experience on Lake Greenwood says the channel cats are the ones most likely to hit a crappie jig

The head looks like a flathead but the belly is full of eggs indeed.

You would think that when you spell the word d.a.m, without the "n", it would not place the asterisks there... But, there are coots on here who would spell it that way!

It was about 20 minutes before we could even confirm it was a catfish. Since it never jumped, we assumed it was, but you never know... The eerie thing was having the fish pull the boat around. And I kept thinking...10 pound line...
I am now a staunch advocate for braided line. Last fall, I had a Zebco that came with 8 lb monofilament line, had a large bass get right to the boat and dive, the line immediately broke. That bass looked to be about 6 pounds, in the short amount of time that I saw him.

No, but I did pay homage to Spud in the second comment, right after I saw the pic sideways!
