Going in on a book with my neighbors tonight. Maybe we will get lucky and win our money back.

Thought she would win enough to pay for the brick of 500 scratch offs. She won like $45 total. She got arrested and the lottery department replaced the tickets she scratched off. I hope you win a fortune, but you probably won’t break even.

Think I've bought 2 in the 20 years since the lottery started in SC

Didn't win a dime. Realized it's a business set up to make them money, not you, and you mostly get nothing for your investment. So I'll put an extra $10 of gas in my car and take advice from Kenny Rogers - "the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep".
Funny that I saw the plant manager where I worked in the mid 00s in line at a convenience store here in Simpsonville buying lottery tickets and scratch offs, me knowing he made a 6 figure income. Realized then it's not just a poor man's game.

It's for the kids. Did the education spending rate of increase drop with the advent of the lottery?

When I buy a ticket, I always say,"I am donating to education in SC". But with tuition costs today, kids still end up with huge debt.

All this does is allow every kid in SC to get 5-6K a year that goes to college, so all the Schools do is start the tuition rate (or increases) at that number. In other words that's 5-6K is their "$0.00" starting point.

A guy in Stanley NC won $10 mil first of May. Winners can't be anonymous in this state which puts a target on the back of the lucky person. Thought if I won a big payout, would hire a disguise artist for a different look, use a different version of my name and rent an appartment for six months before claiming the prize.

My wife's sister won a Grand Wednesday afternoon when she was coming home from work she stopped to get gas, she went in the store and bought 20 of the $10 buck scratch offs, and the 1st one she scratched had a 1 grand winner on it...
She is one of those people that has luck following her around bc she wins on those things all the time, but that was the biggest winner she's had to date. The most I've ever won was a $100 bucks, most of them that I buy are $10-20 bucks or total losers!!!

Check out episode 12 of Freakonomics radio. It tells you most of what you should know about the lottery.

Have you ever watched the YouTube videos of people scratching off tickets? Most of the time they don't even get 50% back but every now and then they will make a profit.

that particular book. And very few books had the top prize included or the lottery would make no money. Never invest $300 with big odds against you to win $500.

Spent $9 on scratch off. 1 $5 ticket and 2 $2 tickets and won $500 once. Haven’t one anything since haha. Really a waste. But you can’t win if you don’t play

Scratch of update. We played a brand new game that just dropped June 4th. We won about 45% of our investment back ($145). We took the winnings and reinvested them back into the same scratch game. We won about 45% again($65). Then we put all that down on the palmetto cash 5 game and won about 45% of the $65 back ($27). Then we let all that ride on some more scratch offs and lost it all.
It was a fun experience. But definitely revealing in the sense that it seems the games are precisely and mathematically created to consistently award the player just under half of their original buy in 45%. Just enough to say hey I won something let me try again....
Good luck!

And no, I’m not moving from my spot at the register while I scratch it off then have the cashier pull me another #8, no wait, a #11, no, give me that #8.

I am not sure why you bother scratching them off, you can just hand it right back to the cashier and they will scan it to see if it is a winner.
