2018 Class - Overbooking . . .

http://www.tigernet.com/view/scholarships/football.do
Looking at the scholarship allocation. Here is my quick assessment of the number of available scholarships for next year. We have 10 scholarships that will be available. But Dabo is pulling one more out for the punter. So, we are at nine schollies for recruits. Using simple math.
However, we now need to take into account several other occurrences that will impact that number:
1. Players leaving early for the draft that are eligible. I have three talented Tigers that mostly likely should, take the money and run - Hyatt, Wilkins, and Cain (stretch goal but could happen).
2. We have had players leave the program for various reasons prior using all four years of eligibility. The over/under on that number is 3.
So we should be looking at offering 12-14 recruits. We have eight commitments already so coaches will be holding onto those last offers tightly. Dabo is conservative so they are leaning toward the lower number - 12. Saban is NOT conservative, and he will push to get 15 four or five star athletes even if it means pushing out players who have been all in for several years.
One challenge going forward is if the signing date is moved up to December (NCAA is voting on this week I think). The NFL potential draftees are still allocated a scholar for the following year at that time as they have not declared yet unless you play for the Gamecocks.
Thoughts / Contradictions?

I count 11 guaranteed. 3 not used, 7 seniors and Green's.
Hyatt, Wilkins, Ferrell and Cain should all lean towards the draft.
I won't be surprised if any of the RS juniors graduate and move on. That's Joseph, Yeargin, Robinson, Trevion, Register, Hearn and Falcinelli.
Add to that the likely attrition of 2 other players.
We are looking at a minimum of 12-13 and a maximum of up to about 20.

once a player is no longer a member of a team, if the athletic department is willing to continue paying for his education that person no longer counts against the scholarship limit for that sport.

Nope as they would be gone before the '18 class arrive regardless

I think with green going to medical we have potential for Hyatt ,Wilkins ,Cain ,Ferrell others more likely than most the seniors we got and most likely will have a qb or defensive player or two transferring think we end up with 15-18 recruits Dabo has said a few players are worth a over sign but a lot of factors in play here to get a accurate number. come time for the vote and with the new rule they shouldn't have to make schools have a scholly spot held for a guy that went to the pros. think that will pressure guys into declaring for draft and worrying about that sooner so they don't hurt the team by leaving and costing a scholly.

If Ray Ray has a big year, he could enter into the draft along with Wilkins, Hyatt, and Cain. Clelin Ferrell, Austin Bryant, Van Smith, and Kendall Joseph are slight possibilities as well, depending on the kind of seasons that they have. I see Dabo signing 12 players in this class. I would love to land Jackson Carman, Justyn Ross, Zamir White, and Patrick Surtain.

I agree that RR will have a big year but remember he's not an imposing figure
Truly a smaller slot kind of guy
He won't leave early next year

WE have 10 after the punter. Look at all the redshirt juniors. Many will graduate and transfer. Examples choice, Thompson, cannon smith, Jabril Robinson, register and yeargin. That's 6 players that are not scheduled to start and many of them will move down the depth chart as younger more talented players pass them. I'm sure not all will leave but some will and some may not be Given a 5th year. Tough conversations are going to have to happen. Then you have true juniors that could transfer if they get passes plus juniors and RS sophomores who will leave early. I know Dabo usually plays it conservative but he knows how big this class is for the continued success of our program. Will have 15 spots minimum and hopefully closer to 18. Just relax it will all work out.
