2017 DB Recruiting

Jul 7, 2015, 10:56 AM

I know it's very early, but it looks like we could bring in a nice class of DBs in the 2017 class. Tank Robinson should be an easy get and we've been pretty persistent with Le Counte and a few other highly rated corners in the class. Would be great to stock up after the trouble we've had with this class after missing on Saivion Smith and only taking 1 corner last year. Thoughts?

Agree that 2017 is going to be an important year for DB's. We will have 5 safeties as Sr's if Kearse stays. Alexander will be gone after for sure at CB, not sure who else at CB. I can see some highly ranked kids taking a hard look at a playing opportunity for sure.

I'd like to know our plan for 2016 first.

Not sure why in the world we backed off Trayvon Mullen. He released his five visits list on July 2nd and we're not on it but LSU, FSU, TCU, Oregon, and Ohio State are. So it would appear we're off his list.

Also gone are Brittain Brown and Jacob Morgenstern who are both headed to Duke. We flirted with Kareem Felder but ultimately he wants to be a Buckeye. Go ahead and remove Damar Hamlin from our list as well and Malek Young.

We've got a chance with Robbie Robinson but I have zero insight as to how much contact we've had lately with him. I have yet to hear whether he'll be at the All In Cookout but it'd be nice. All I can tell you is that he tells me that he was wearing a Clemson hat on Sunday. (I know, I know- I'm bigger on him than everyone else but we'll debate that at a later date)

So we're courting Marquil Osborne, aye. Great but he's been a Vol for quite some time. Anybody really like our chances with him?

Here's the good news: the 2017 class is absolutely loaded and we're in prime position with several guys. You've heard the names like Darnay Holmes, Deangelo Gibbs, Tank Robinson, Savalas Cann, William Poole, and others... but I'd like to throw another name out there in Juwan Burgess of Tampa, FL. I really like his film and he's got the size and frame to grow- he's listed at 6-1 175. Here's his bio and his film speaks for itself. Dude is a ball hawk.

ATH Juwan Burgess 6-1 175 Tampa, FL Blake HS

Had a phenomenal freshmen year with 5 INTs, 7 passes broken up, 40 tackles, a fumble recorvery, and a caused fumble. Also in 2013, had 8 catches for 100 yards and a score. In 2014, spent time on both sides of the ball again and some time at QB. Was 14 of 42 passing for 237 yards on top of 34 carries for 202 yards and a TD. On defense, Burgess had 26 tackles, 7 TFL, a sack, an INT, 4 PBUs, and 1 FF. CollegeFootballNews.com has him as a 4* recruit. Has offers from Clemson, Florida, FAU, UGA, UK, VT, USF, and others. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3240052/highlights/71206375/v2

verbal foundation the staff has built to date.

i see 4 or 5 we are at or very near the top with, but that leaves ~4, maybe more, spots unaccounted for should we sweep those of which we're aware.

1 safety (smith) and 2 corners (fields, chalmers), muse will be a lb. and this year we thought we were getting Saivion so we backed off several highly rated corners especially Mullen and now we're at the 6th or 7th guy on our board.

I did not count Muse. You have Chalmers, Smith, Fields and Johnson. You also can count Trapp on a Gray Shirt.

Trouble with this class? We're only taking one CB and its July 7th how are we having trouble? We only need to sign one guy its not like we need to find 4 guys, finding one good corner will not be a problem by the end of the season.

There's no way we don't lead for Williams, right? I see a potential class of 5 DBs: Robinson, Jamyest Williams, Richard LeCounte, Cann (if we keep him away from SC), and one more corner
